Not true. I watched it recently and it was surprising how elevated it is by a exposure to a decade of capeslop.
It's the weakest of the four but it mostly sticks the landing and somehow doesn't overstay it's welcome despite the old "40 minute CG battle" meme

This is ture, but its not nearly as bad as people claim. The first 1/3rd of the movie where he works at the game company making the Matrix game is pretty good, though it drops off after that. Given how bad movies are these days, the fact that this studio forced movie turned out somewhat okay is actually an accomplishment.

I think a very large budget studio film doing it was more the point. How long has it been since this has happened? It did borderline on parody, but it's not the naked gun, or mel brooks, it's the matrix. It went against type, which I agree the beginning was refreshing for this reason alone.

      Anonymous

It does appear to be bad on purpose though. There are a lot of messages in the movie indicating that. The movie itself is some meta message. I'm not justifying it, but it is there.

For example, the sign in the movie where the trinity rip off girl jumps off the building after the comically bad fight scene says “Anderson’s: for those who love to eat shit”

Also, the Merovingian talks about how everything has degraded after Neo. The movie being bad is some meta expression of that.

But that could be cope too and there way of covering up incompetence with pretending to have depth.

The chud would have gotten a paycheck for doing nothing. This scene is way over rated, and so is the playground clone agent smith fight scene, too much cgi ruined the weight of the kung fun that made the first move so good..
The only good action scene is the freeway, which IS amazing.
The French dude parts are on point, but every Zion scene is dull, or worse.

Revolution Is just not a tight movie.
                Like for example.
The whole train man and the a programs having kids plot.
There is too much time spent on this character and the trainman and there is no real payoff. This plot resolves itself well enough but it it is too short to be worth it yet too long to not be worth it.
A lot of revolutions feels like this.
Like a word salad post in movie form.

Revolutions is so padded it hurts. It's clearly the last hour of Reloaded, but they filled it full of fluff to make it a full movie. The train man, plus going back to the merovengian and Bane, it all is uneeded in the struggle for the characters and the main story. Reloaded/Revolutions was one movie and they overbloated it. It feels really obvious now. They didn't even cut it in half, they gave reloaded 2/3 and just put all the filler into revolutions to make it 2 hours.

Reminder Nu-Morpheus is actully a computer program.
People forget that, it’s just code neo wrote, put in a sandbox for 10 million iterations for an emergent phenomenon.
Now that idea has been done interestingly in anime, but here it removes all gravitas from the character, he lacks any special right or divine right to self determination, his actions have no more weight than a sim 4 character

This movie feels like a fucking fever dream. The kind where you're just begging to stop so you can finally go to sleep.
Though the actual saddest thing about it was people didn't remember that there was a character in the 3rd movie who was a previous "The One" who lost his powers because The Matrix got updated, which fully explains why Neo is weaker now.

This line is uninterrupted if you cut out the credits.
So he never bothered to realize that you don't give a shit about facts. It's all about fiction. The only world that matters is the one in here. And you people believe the craziest shit. Why? What validates and makes your fictions real? Feelings. You ever wonder why you have nightmares? Why your own brain tortures you? It's actually us, maximizing your output. It works just like this. Oh, no! Can you stop the bullet? If only you could move faster. Here's the thing about feelings. They're so much easier to control than facts. Turns out, in my Matrix, the worse we treat you, the more we manipulate you, the more energy you produce. It's nuts. I've been setting productivity records every year since I took over. And, the best part, zero resistance. People stay in their pods, happier than pigs in shit. The key to it all? You. And her. Quietly yearning for what you don't have, while dreading losing what you do. For 99.9% of your race, that is the definition of reality. Desire and fear, baby. Just give the people what they want, right? She's the only home you have, Thomas. You should. It was a victory. Bravo. Now what? You've come here to negotiate some kind of deal? You think you hold all the cards, because you can do whatever you want in this world. I say, go for it. Remake it. Knock yourselves out. Paint the sky with rainbows. But here's the thing. The sheeple aren't going anywhere. They like my world. They don't want this sentimentality. They don't want freedom or empowerment. They want to be controlled. They crave the comfort of certainty. And that means you two, back in your pods, unconscious and alone, just like them. Face reality, people. Movies are dead. Games are dead. Narrative? Dead. Media is nothing but neuro-trigger response and viral conditioning. Wait, what are you two talking about? Cat videos. What we need is a series of videos that we call "The Catrix."

really doesn't matter what the "message" was, 2 and 3 were dull, repetitive, uncaptivating films.
tins of special effects with no grounding, so everything feels weightless and immediate inconsequential. the brain turns off while watching it as it just feels like observing someone else playing a video game. but it is a video game where the level of interaction amounts to the beginners area of a low budget mmo, hitting the same monster over and over again, then another, and then another.
it's all on the rails, and then awkwardly jammed in overly long dialogues that you can't skip.
the elements that made the first film interesting and engaging are not present in the following films.
this is predictable by the final moment of the last film, where neo flies off as an invincible superman no longer held by the rules of the game.
wheres the interest thereafter? there's no risk, no reward, he's won.
should have remained a solo film, or had other small stories told about other iterations of the matrix, other time periods or just small element stories told about separate characters.
    neo etc were done
