If you're curious, he didn't. They threw him in as the final person to capture in a phone game you play inside the theme parks.

Did this guy ever appear in other nuStar Wars stuff? I always wondered about that. Kinda funny how he just fricked off like that, pretty pointless subplot really.

He got a comic run for this character that takes him up to when he gets thrown in jail, and it's a good story.

Frick Rian Johnson for this pointless time-wasting shit. The entire casino planet was a waste of time. You can do that shit in your homosexual little comedies but not in a sci-fi adventure movie.

I hate Rian Johnson for doing a fake out Lando character archetype introduction just to make a comment about people having moral ambiguity. God I hate this movie.

I mean objectively speaking you’re right about Lando betraying Han in ESB. At least he helps the Rebels escape Cloud City and becomes a main protagonist in ROTJ. DJ just shows up takes money and disappears from the franchise, which begs the question of the entire master code breaker plot of this movie and Rose and Finn’s motivations.

I was making fun of the anon for autistically expecting the character to be someone then getting pissed that the character didn't fit into his cookie cutter expectation

Benicio not showing up again in TROS is more of the fault of the people who made TROS, but then again they're not obligated to include every character from previous movies

You're right, Benicio's character wasn't very satisfying. I think it just means Rose and Finn couldn't trust any random guy as a runner up, and they should have stuck with the real code breaker.

Yeah the whole Finn and Rose subplot was boring, except for seeing the horses escape, and some of the action at the end.

If I were to give Rian any credit whatsoever for providing any sort of character depth, I'd say the actual message was that in the midst of galactic strife, people like DJ thrive on exploiting circumstances for personal gain and have no qualms about taking an amoral stance about anyone involved in that strife. Everyone's a rube to the shadow operators that only are on their own side in this.

so what are the odds they just happen to find a hacker capable of hacking the first order who is not the hacker they went there to find?

The Force provided, if you want to try and headcanon some depth to the coincidence.

I guess the First Order planted him as a double agent but it begs the question how would they know Finn and Rose were going to go on this mission anyway to find the hacker guy on that planet to begin with in order to preemptively plant him?

According to the comic, his being there was complete coincidence.

So was he always intended to be a double agent? Or was the comic made without full knowledge of the plot of the film?

he wasn't a double agent he was just an opportunist. he betrayed them because he could not because he was on a mission to

This whole movie was frickin dumb and the biggest time waste possible. Literally the entire casino planet would had been skipped if the captain told Poe the plan.

This plot line talked so hard down to the audience. Like Rian Johnson actually thinks no has heard of this and he’s going to teach everyone anti-capitalism for the first time: I don’t remember the original movies being like this, they didn’t talk to you like they were your kindergarten teacher, though maybe I was just younger and didn’t notice
