Agreed. I also thought it was a refreshing change of pace from
      >Beep boop. Target acquired. I have calcuated that human beings must be exterminated.
To have a robot that's an angry and demented butthole. Even the snarkier bits worked because it felt inherited from Stark.

Ultron and Obadiah Stane are the only good villains in marvel.

I would give it to the Raimi villains as well. Even if you exclude Spider-Man as not counting/being fair, Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange 2 is hammy and legitimately threatening in a way these characters should be.

I also thought Red Skull and Vulture were fun.

Ultron started out good. But turned into a quipping goofball later. Ultron was too human, too emotional.

That would have been bad. Should have found a middle ground between the two.

Iron Man 3 was so fricking lame in the fact that they ALMOST set up literally the raddest villain in the entire MCU and then cut the legs right out from under the whole thing in the same fricking movie. Infuriating. The Ben Kingsley Mandarin terrorist videos were some of the most kino shit in the MCU:

Iron Man 3 is the best MCU movie and this twist is largely the reason why.

          Anonymous

Personally I think the twist and everything about extremis veered too far into silly territory for IM solo film and moreover Killian just ended up as a wet fart villain. "I own the war on terror" "pls tony now you'll have to fix my crazy experiment now that I infected Pepper!". Maya hansen was originally going to be the real ruthless mastermind and they reduced her role to play up killian who would have worked better as just a henchman. They could have made extremis just a less campy supersoldier/experimental healing drug that just made PTSD people go nuts and kill themselves or something, and kept it more grounded - considering they were trying to stick to the theme of modern war on terror/ tony's PTSD etc. The fire breathing shit was totally fricking lame.

            Anonymous

I definitely agree it would've worked better had they been allowed to keep Maya Hansen as the main villain. But otherwise this felt like a classic 80s era action movie sneaking into an MCU movie. I think the idea of a corporation/government conspiracy to create their own super-villain because that's what the world is like now (in their universe) is a really clever idea, and the fact that you're able to have a modern version of the Mandarin, but then also subvert that by deconstructing the very trope that the original Mandarin was created under, is some really clever writing. I also enjoy watching Ben Kingsley play it both ways.

If Killian was better written the twist could've worked but as it stands, the fake villain was superior and to have him be revealed as a gag didn't work for me.

      Hammer
Justin Hammer would have been incredible if they had just let him be the main antagonist and not overemphasized their shit version of whiplash. Mickey Rourke didn't bring much to the table and Sam Rockwell was killing it, except they had to undercut his menace to make whiplash look tougher. Justin Hammer works as the dark reflection of Tony's old character before he had his 'epiphany' IM2 and IM3 were some of the biggest disappointments in the mcu showing how the studio couldn't just take a good thing they had to try and cram too much into each movie and make Spider-man 3- tier messes.

When fricking youtube film critic dorks can see that the whole movie would have worked way better with just Justin Hammer as the main antagonist and no whiplash it makes you realize they just shoehorned whiplash in because "oh look cool electric whips!" and "we got Mickey Rourke for the role, and he just won an Oscar for The Wrestler!" - Hey Jon Favreau patch the script together quick we gotta release this shit in 11 months! Whiplash ends up with literally no character detail in the movie other than quirks Mickey Rourke ad-libbed.

I disagree with said dorks and you. They needed to flesh out Whiplash more. But as a concept and a performance he was interesting. Justin Hammer on his own would've done nothing to improve the movie.

It's a combination of interesting back story (although a little goofy for when he got his name), style, but more importantly his place in the story
Namor changes the main character and that is the most important thing a secondary character can do in a story
Also, he was a real menace and did frick up Wakanda

call me Black person lover for liking the Black Panther movies but they have the best writing of any MCU movies. Characters actually evolve through these movies, there's actual geopolitics as well, and the emotional core is there. You can't say the same for the rest of the MCU

You know, you know, I don't have to explain every single villain by going over every page in the marvel wiki but we can't forget marvunapp we simply can't so go over every single page it won't take long http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/appchar.htm now pick a character any character look for characters that are not just "character but evil" try something else I dare say any character can be fleshed out and expanded upon given a solid backstory and motivation and conflict and if you can't come up with any ideas ask Claude for assistance I just redefined all the classic Asian characters like the Mandarin and now Claude thinks Marvel is the most racist shit to ever exist but I have a backstory now imagine that instead of I don't know pretending your movie has a villain and passing it off as a joke no that's not how it works you can write actual stories with compelling villains you don't have to stretch out the first ten pages of an origin story to two and a half hours just take the essence of the character who they are ask who is such and such let's see who is Black Bishop no this guy looks exceptionally boring okay pick another one just go at random you'll find a compelling villain somewhere in there go for it don't give up.
