Probably all this really, I wonder how Merlin got a Asian monk and a elf equivalent to king Arthur involved in this conflict.
Explanation is likely simpler than you'd think.
The evil threatens the magic land so the elves get involved. The evil threatens life on earth so the cosmic monks get involved. Merlin and Melinda are involved from the start. Therefore they all gang together.
This could also explain why the warriors have never successfully defeated the evil once and for all. The others (but especially Edred) know she’s the strongest and expect her to do the heavy lifting and deliver the finishing blow, but whether Melinda fully understands why or not, there could always be some part of her telling her not to finish it. And so the cycle can’t end.

7/10, a little disjointed flipping between everything happening but did a good job of making Melinda more sympathetic person with backstory while still leaving some questions unanswered. Also now patiently waiting to see Winston in Werewolf mode
pGood. But this show desperately needs character interactions that aren't just characters being angry at each other. The downtime where Emma met kid Melinda is good for example. Also, I like Copernicus but didn't feel his destruction's impact. This show is missing something to invest you in the characters, which is a shame because Genndy is usually very good at that.
The fact that he straight-up looks like a wolfman is great visual foreshadowing.

I'm not too sure about the time travel stuff. But Merlin meaning to do well but dropping the ball hard is more in line with what I know. It's a pretty common trope with most "magic assist" characters in old legends. They are great and powerful as long as they are helping out and focusing on the greater good as that society details it. Though their personal lives are shit shows if they use the power for personal gain.
This would've been better as a movie. The show's presentation of the story is dull, especially in weekly episodic format.
