Queenie forgets though that if she succeeds any one with the right knowledge and connections can hijack the Etalarche mechanism and suddenly have an entire nation of weapons on command. She's actively making things worse for future generations.
It's possible that at that point she'd just start breaking down Aldish khert hubs and see how much she could shrink the Dammakhert, if not get rid of it entirely.

Whoa, I feel dumb, I never thought about how the Queen's plan could lead to that outcome because of the Soud being immune to Dammakhert mental influence. I just assumed the civil war with Soud genocide that Ilganyag showed Duane was somehow related to the silver plot that Argenti, Bastion etc. were working on inside of Alderode.
Yes, but I wouldn't leave out the fact that she's hijacking mind control that the Alderode government inflicted on their own people to make peace harder to obtain.
"to be fair" the whole conflict is not born out of mind control, just garden variety national/ethnic/religious/cultural tensions. Hey on that note isn't it kinda weird Alderode was founded by a patriarchal hero king and Cresce by a matriarchal hero queen? The only day to day shit the dammakhert does is make every one jacked into it capable of reading the feelings of those around them and also you can be knocked out at a distance.
The Ethelarche curse is the mind control and notably rarely used specifically because it's such a slipshod addition to the basic function of the thing. Presumably why this came about will get explained at some point. Its use on Roger wasn't so much about avoiding peace with Cresce as maintaining their control over the country, in which positioning Cresce as an antagonist helps serve really. I feel like people have posited that the Souds participating in the assassination of the Queen was meant to be kind of a hail mary to both bolster their position but also as some sort of way to try and hold together the fractious religious situation in the country.
Via pre-existing mind control. When you find out that the country nonstop trying to wipe you out uses mind-control to prevent any of its citizens from going "hang on this war is dumb," then you really should consider turning the damn mental cattleprod in reverse.

It really makes me question whether it's a legit entry, or someone just hijacked those pics and submitted them as their own. The winning picture looks like AI art, and it's one of those things with voting like this. Most people just saw a dog that looks like Pantoffel and had their heart strings tugged.

I find it bizarre that Unsounded, a comic that published over a thousand pages just to reach the halfway point, has now just explained the plot that has driven years of intrigue and the suffering of dozens of characters in two speech bubbles in a single panel.
Smells like misdirection to me. There's probably a lot more to it or queenie's lying to the black tongues, but she's not going to correct the guy right here in the open.
