As a reminder, Bastion was "interrupted" before he could "complete" Duane. While it may not have resulted in something exactly like Murkoph, Bastion also did not intend Duane to be an insane, magot riddent corpse for months, years? until he managed to pull himself back together on his own.
I recall Cope mentioning Bastion was going to try and preserve him, for one. Whether this would've been black goop like Murkoph I don't know. Duane being insane also didn't seem to be entirely due to being stuck in a rotting corpse, though it couldn't have helped, so I don't know if Bastion had other plans to try and either help shore up his sanity or just lock him up until he calmed down on his own as he eventually did in reality.

There's 3 main arcs.
The first ended on a high note for the MCs and everyone else literally fricked to death.
The second absolutely destroyed MC 1 and several side protags but he kinda just... tanked it, he's already dead what does it matter if he's also dead inside?
The third is in the process of absolutely destroying MC 2 and also finishing the main story - about 3 thirds in, the arc is literally in it's climax rn but there's a big loose end that MC 1's gotta check before we finish the comic.
AFTER that there's a promised book 2 but I think cope's is gonna get too old to draw to do it
Unsounded is already on like the third fricking book of the series. Cope doesn't split it up properly. The beginning through the Nevergreen was its own book. The river journey plus the shrine was its own book. Now we're wrapping up the Port Whatever book.
It's not that Unsounded is a single story that's taking forever to finish, it's that it's a long and ongoing series, like Game of Thrones or Harry Potter.

I mean, joke's on the entire rest of the continent, right? The Shartes aren't afraid of the water like everybody else, so they've built a navy, and that's one of the big reasons they're a rising power in Kasslyne.
It's like I was saying before: I don't think a Sette has ever been a Sharte before our Sette, and that might have rather significant consequences. Shartes are greedy, backstabbing, thieving motherfrickers, but as a direct result of that they don't seem bound by a lot of the old hangups and rules and taboos that rule Cresce, Alderode, and the other countries in the world. Reread it and the scenes after, pay attention to how Duane's attitude shifts. He wakes up, looks at his ugly reflection in the water trough, and fricking table flips it. Tiddybird reminded him of all he'd lost and all the anger he's been suppressing. It feeds into his shitty attitude after the war story and he takes it all out on the shrine and the people in it. Ultimately it leads to him clearing the storm and letting all the armies in, which then propels Sette onwards towards the Port.
A kindly and rational Duane could have kept them stranded in that shrine for too long, let Sette make too many friends, completely derailed the journey.

Also Cresce has been taking nothing but Ws. They did their war crime plod move and got working on the khert hack, the karma houdini engineer from the shrine survived to feed Cresce the tech to mass produce Uaids, their seditious sub-faction undermining them was decapitated, and they are causing a civil war in Alderode by somehow convincing their government composed of equal numbers Gefendur and Ssaelite to rule against Ssaelites. They can afford to take one L, which will be resolved by some arguing but isn't likely to hurt them that much in the long term. Someone will think of an excuse for why it's okay for them to rule.

As a reminder, Bastion was "interrupted" before he could "complete" Duane. While it may not have resulted in something exactly like Murkoph, Bastion also did not intend Duane to be an insane, magot riddent corpse for months, years? until he managed to pull himself back together on his own.
I recall Cope mentioning Bastion was going to try and preserve him, for one. Whether this would've been black goop like Murkoph I don't know. Duane being insane also didn't seem to be entirely due to being stuck in a rotting corpse, though it couldn't have helped, so I don't know if Bastion had other plans to try and either help shore up his sanity or just lock him up until he calmed down on his own as he eventually did in reality.

The first ended on a high note for the MCs and everyone else literally fricked to death.
The second absolutely destroyed MC 1 and several side protags but he kinda just... tanked it, he's already dead what does it matter if he's also dead inside?
The third is in the process of absolutely destroying MC 2 and also finishing the main story - about 3 thirds in, the arc is literally in it's climax rn but there's a big loose end that MC 1's gotta check before we finish the comic.

Unsounded is already on like the third fricking book of the series. Cope doesn't split it up properly. The beginning through the Nevergreen was its own book. The river journey plus the shrine was its own book. Now we're wrapping up the Port Whatever book.
It's not that Unsounded is a single story that's taking forever to finish, it's that it's a long and ongoing series, like Game of Thrones or Harry Potter.

I don't think that's what it's meant to be. She hasn't shown any other bits of reincarnation memory aside from this if that's what it is. I always took it to be her own fears due to her knowledge of her nature as a twin, as bizarre as it was. It's clearly a big deal for her, so we're shown her trying to paper over it and ignore it by explaining it away as her being totally cool and not pissing her pants in fear at all.

Reread it and the scenes after, pay attention to how Duane's attitude shifts. He wakes up, looks at his ugly reflection in the water trough, and fricking table flips it. Tiddybird reminded him of all he'd lost and all the anger he's been suppressing. It feeds into his shitty attitude after the war story and he takes it all out on the shrine and the people in it. Ultimately it leads to him clearing the storm and letting all the armies in, which then propels Sette onwards towards the Port.
A kindly and rational Duane could have kept them stranded in that shrine for too long, let Sette make too many friends, completely derailed the journey.

Duane fricking anyone is akin to X-Men Rogue's situation, just allowing him to really feel breasts, penetrate something with a feeling present dick as if he's still alive, etc. must have been heaven. As for tittybird, her true lover isn't there, but I don't see her being above a casual frick. Duane was definitely more into it than she and absolutely manipulated.

If the Queen dies, the Crescian state is completely decapitated. Military leader - gone and disgraced. High priestess - dead and the clergy possibly in ill favor because of the missing twin. High nobility - may largely be butchered here. It would be an utter disaster. It already IS a disaster, even if the Queen survives and enough of the big wig nobs make it through.
But also the alds have straight up suicided their war effort. Not as grim as it seems.

If Sonorie doesn't die at this point I will feel cheated. We've already passed the point (chronologically in page count) where it makes sense for her to be alive and functional. Quigley already made it to the docks after starting the same scene with Duane. There'd have to be a minotaur's labyrinth between Toma and Sonorie for him to be just arriving there now, and there's no reason for Ruck to just sit there and wait for him in a dangerous building.
Also Cresce has been taking nothing but Ws. They did their war crime plod move and got working on the khert hack, the karma houdini engineer from the shrine survived to feed Cresce the tech to mass produce Uaids, their seditious sub-faction undermining them was decapitated, and they are causing a civil war in Alderode by somehow convincing their government composed of equal numbers Gefendur and Ssaelite to rule against Ssaelites. They can afford to take one L, which will be resolved by some arguing but isn't likely to hurt them that much in the long term. Someone will think of an excuse for why it's okay for them to rule.
