he's been associated with red hands before, his ladies trying to hold him in, so if the pattern holds maybe it's similar (not sure how any woman would have a golden memory with him, however)
He was made into a monster by... something. Sessine says as much as one point. Plus he's singing right now, maybe his song attracted good memories for a change?
He may have been a sailor at one point, but it’s also more likely that he ran with street gangs. Consider how even in Sharteshane, the king and Jab and Jab’s assistant don’t speak the way Nary and Sette do.
I think we can infer that Duane and Sette (and possibly the silver) are necessary to free Tittybird. I think Murkoph was subjected successfully to the same process as Duane and in the past he was meant to be used with a previous incarnation of Sette in a previous attempt to free Tittybird. Duane and "our" Sette wouldn't be the first time she's tried this scheme and this time she's refined the process a bit better to be less likely to fail.
this is probably close enough to what I think to be the same thing, I think Murkoph was the opposite of Duane though.
The first try was to make an immortal human, and what happened was his soul fled the building and left him an immortal flesh creature without a soul trapped in the world/khert fulfilling his basest desires with his fricked up brain.
All of you are so focused on how Murkoph isn't Ssael. You're going to be so surprised when we find out later on that the bigger reveal is that Ssael isn't Murkoph.
Many Senets species are clearly sociopathic by nature. She clearly did something so bad that killing her wouldn't have been punishment enough. When we cannot impose the death penalty societies impose solitary confinement as the highest form of punishment.
And it's been quite the punishment. She's old enough to have forgotten her earliest years, millions of years before mortal organisms showed up and millions of more years prodding evolution until it gave rise to sentient species. And imprisoned she can only watch the flow of history but have no means of interacting with it and until recently hasn't had anybody to talk to. This is a fate that could arguably be worse than death. Even a human would get bored of watching nothing but TV alone for tens of thousands of years.
It's just tit razors though. It's not like she can cast meteors and assplode cities with her mind. She's a lot more benign than the brain eating guy armed with lawyers
Yeah, good spot. Just how much has Sette torn out of herself? I suspect she's stuck in a bit of a loop, making the same stupid mistakes over and over and not knowing it, 'cos each time she erases the memories of pain and humiliation. Also explains how she's boundlessly confident: she literally doesn't remember her many failures, only the times when stuff worked out.
Murkoph was a member of the Tanners who got contracted by the conspirators to kill Duane. He was probably the assassin with the spellslicer knife. At some point in book 2 he'll get fricked up and subjected to Bastion's perfected galit technique. He's driven homicidally insane, shenanigans happen, and he winds up dumped into the Khert, the timeless nature of which allows him to appear in the story as he has.
This fits Ashley's original conception of the story centred on the Tanners, sets up Murkoph as a kind of Dickensian street rat turned guro monster, and ties into already-shown Aldish backstory.
the fact that there's literally a living tanner character with the surname murkoph and people still come up with all sorts of other theories unrelated to them is amazing to me
I highly, HIGHLY doubt this. Cope has said before that Murkoph lived and died a long time ago. It's one of those things that hasn't actually been confirmed in the story yet, but I don't think it is one of those things she'd change either.
Ah, like
I remember that theory but I'm pretty sure it's not true. I think Ashley said something about Murkoph having lived hundreds(?) of years ago, while the spellslicer that killed Duane is still alive and a member of a prominent Aldish gang, who we're going to see or interact with a lot when we get to Alderode
said. And I'm fairly sure it was either in the old Q&A or even in one of the Q&A youtube vids where she said it, not a fan theory.
You know, Ashley as a writer is so good that I think she dodges a lot of narrative pitfalls, but the way she includes Murkoph makes me realize she really is just human, writing her fetish into the story.
Cinemaphile hates him but Murkoph is really popular on Tumblr and elsewhere. He was even popular on his own as her OC before the comic started at all. He has his audience and he's probably good for the comic's popularity and success even if a small but vocal segment of the readership is irritated by him
I'm not even irritated by him. My reaction to Murkoph being on the page is to skim the page for non-Murkoph stuff and then click away, because I know his dialogue and actions aren't important or interesting narratively
He could get some development that makes you love him. All of unsounded is her magical realm after all.
I would love nothing more than for Murkoph to suddenly 180 and be interesting for a change. But I'm just absolutely not seeing him as anything other than a poorly written fetish caricature in an otherwise fantastic story full of well-rounded and robust characters
>I'm not even irritated by him. My reaction to Murkoph being on the page is to skim the page for non-Murkoph stuff
You forgot the "whinge in Unsounded threads" part.
I really don't think he's as bad as you say, I mean after all it's already been mentioned how at the very least he is someone for tittybird to talk to in her scenes. Also, he provides some teases for story down the road. Admittedly we dont know where those teases are going yet, but at least it's something. And yeah he's definitely Ashley's fetish but I don't see him being THAT thin.
That someone was also me. And I evaluate characters based off what I've seen, not some nebulous future story contribution they may or may not contribute.
Murkoph is boring and weakens the story.
Not only is he Ashley's fetish, she definitely also self inserts as the titty bird he's stuck in prison with

There’s a pretty prevalent theory going on that he’s Spellslicer, aka the masked assassin who killed Duane, and the one who said, “You can’t do that to a cleric!” And “god is watching, black tongue”.
Which means that when the story gets to Alderode, he should become Very Relevant.

She didn’t say anything like that I can recall. It was a fan theory some years ago because of the khert’s nature regarding time, but Ash hasn’t confirmed anything of the sort.
There's plenty of cute sexy boys and all of them are miles more interesting than Murkoph
He basically exists for 1) Ilganyag to talk to and 2) Ashley to jerk off to
Boring character
I don't mind Murkoph. That's just stuff that comes with a female author. I like it much better than guys writing cringy lesbian characters like in K6BD or Gunnerkrigg
I dunno enough about Deadpool, but I don't think it's a similar type of char. Deadpool isn't a cute sexy boy who cuts his bare boy chest and bleeds and omigosh he can peel off his skin jaskjaldkf
Deadpool seems more like lolsorandum power fantasy. Murkoph is very much an early 20s art girl fetish thing
We haven't been given nearly enough information or screen time of Murkoph for you to be this dismissive. As a presence in the story he was one of the early and most damning warning signs about Ilganyag. He's a symptom of something wrong with the khert, we think Ilganyag is the source but we're not sure.
He's completely disgusting and the appropriate reaction is to want him to gtfo of the scene. But at the same time I'm invested in finding out why he's like this, eventually.
How the frick can anyone be "annoyed" by Murkoph or find him "boring"? He's hardly been in the story, and his one moment creeping Sette the frick out was fine.
It's like having an odd hate-boner for discount Whoopie.
We've definitely seen enough of Murkoph on screen to form an opinion of him as an audience. He's had basically as much page time as Elan Aled.

Is Murkoph's problem just that we haven't seen him get realistically punished for his edginess like with the other pathetic edgy prettyboys in Unsounded?
He's dead. It makes for good comedy. Do you complain too when Duane gets a limb torn off or stabbed by an enemy who then gets confused when there's little effect?
I'm not really complaining. I'm just saying that's probably why people don't care much for him. I'm sure people will like him more when we actually see his backstory.
Also Duane is a fricking mess right now from all of his injuries adding up. Dude's head is literally being held on right now.
>Also Duane is a fricking mess right now from all of his injuries adding up.
Similar effects could be happening to Murkoph due to injuries as well, and we don't know yet.

Sure they could but like you said we don't know yet. He could be the most compelling character in Unsounded once he's actually gotten development but that doesn't mean much to the audience until it actually happens.
>Murkoph died hundreds of years ago >Murkoph is presently alive and a member of the Tanners
These things are not mutually exclusive due to the Lady's Khert frickery
Well, we already knew he was a bronze Ald and likely a Ssaelit. This definitely confirms it, though.
Wonder what that golden liquid hand is.
The way it looks to me is that they're memories trying to pull him back into the khert to trap him. The khert really doesn't seem to be a fan of him.
The timing would be awfully convenient, since Tittybird is arriving at this exact moment. I'm suspecting her.
he's been associated with red hands before, his ladies trying to hold him in, so if the pattern holds maybe it's similar (not sure how any woman would have a golden memory with him, however)
He was made into a monster by... something. Sessine says as much as one point. Plus he's singing right now, maybe his song attracted good memories for a change?
>Wonder what that golden liquid hand is.
Glad I'm not the only one thinking about piss. I was just hesitant to mention it
>Wonder what that golden liquid hand is.
is this the real life...
For a bronze Ald, Murkoph sure seemed to speak like a natural born Sharte when he was talking to Sette.
Probably an efghersit dialect? They’re supposed to be a lot different than all the higher class aldishmen we’ve been around for most of story.
He may have been a sailor at one point, but it’s also more likely that he ran with street gangs. Consider how even in Sharteshane, the king and Jab and Jab’s assistant don’t speak the way Nary and Sette do.
So is Murk having shoes on the previous page and being barefoot this page deliberate or an oversight?
Oversight. Ashley is working on a thin buffer and mentioned she’s bound to make small mistakes.
Dunno. It's not like they're real shoes. I'm leaning towards deliberate, because he's remembering being near the sea or something.
>Your services are needed once again, Mr. Koph.
There's women need murdering.
boyfeet
>boyfeet
soft dead boyfeet even, with minimal decay
I think we can infer that Duane and Sette (and possibly the silver) are necessary to free Tittybird. this is probably why ssaelism is so insistent about burning bodies, too
>Murkoph was subjected successfully to the same process as Duane
But by who and when? Before or after Duane got killed?
Murkoph appears to be a perfected version of what was done to Duane. And not a tacit caster. So… after?
Man Murkoph really hates that bright
All of you are so focused on how Murkoph isn't Ssael. You're going to be so surprised when we find out later on that the bigger reveal is that Ssael isn't Murkoph.
Is Ashley incapable of thinking about killing off child characters for a single minute?
What the heart is full of, the mouth overflows with.
Child murder and insect porn is all that's on her mind.
>Is Ashley incapable of thinking about killing off child characters for a single minute?
Why is freeing tittybird bad? She doesn't seem to want humans to go extinct. She's like the brainworm guy except she wants more attention
Many Senets species are clearly sociopathic by nature. She clearly did something so bad that killing her wouldn't have been punishment enough. When we cannot impose the death penalty societies impose solitary confinement as the highest form of punishment.

I'm gonna say the mysteriously imprisoned lady with razors in her breasts probably wouldn't be a great nurturing presence for humanity
It's just tit razors though. It's not like she can cast meteors and assplode cities with her mind. She's a lot more benign than the brain eating guy armed with lawyers
It's more the metaphorical implications of the titty razors
I missed the last few threads, but has anyone pointed out the foreshadowing that Sette tore out her memories of Ilganyag? "I dunno you!"
The Salt Lizard and Ilganyag have the same awkward hindquarter design.
that's just how digitigrade animals be, anon.
Yeah, good spot. Just how much has Sette torn out of herself? Well, he's dead. And he seems to have been cut up pretty well before he died, so he was punished at some point.
I mean he did get flayed and got tittyspikes jammed in his mouth.
Sure but any injury to him is treated like slapstick for now.
He's dead. It makes for good comedy. Do you complain too when Duane gets a limb torn off or stabbed by an enemy who then gets confused when there's little effect?

He's dead and was imprisoned in the khert for God knows how long. Technically he's still imprisoned but his cage got bigger.
Not punishment enough?
What's that molten silver he has on his chest? Is it the remains of a torque like bastion's?
ladies please contain your lust
I forgot about this dude where about, what was he up to outside of being bird dildo?
OCEANS OF PISS
Wait how can Murkoph be Ssael if he knows Ssaelit hymns?
He's not.
Ashley has been extremely and explicitly clear that Murkoph is not Ssael.
It's the Khert, the non-linear nature of time let him learn them after he died.
Obviously.
Murkoph is a bronze, something that only exists post-Ssael who was also a Tain/Soud like Duane.
Why does tittybird like Alds so much?
>Ssael
>Murkoph
>Duane
What is it about blonde crusaders that makes her so horny?
Girl just has a type.
Murkoph has brown hair bro, he’s a bronze
