Upcoming cartoons in 2024

I wonder if things will continue to be this empty in upcoming years.

Shows from picture:
The Amazing Digital Circus
Batman: Caped Crusader
X-Men '97
Invincible Fight Girl
Creature Commandos
Helluva Boss
Totally Spies (S7)
Arcane (S2)
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Murder Drones
The Wild Robot (Movie)
Invincible S2 Part 2

Pretty empty year. I do like the comfy mix of sequels, spiritual successors to classic hero cartoons and indie stuff though. The Wild Robot looks like a kino movie.

I've been rewatching X-Men TAS in preparation for the sequel, I've been loving it so far.

    The other half? Written off.

Hm, you think? That's a bit harsh. The indie stuff aside, let's see:

      >Batman Caped Crusader
Yeah I can see this one not getting renewed based on the leaks we saw for it recently as it looks rather... rough. We are getting two seasons though. The fact that WB ditched it also shows that they didn't have much faith it it either. I can see why Prime wanted it though with the success of their hero shows, but I doubt this will gather much of an audience, since it feels like barely anyone knows this exists. If it's good though, it could catch on to people who feel nostalgic for Batman TAS.

      >Invincible Fight Girl
Adult Swim originals have been really all over the place recently. This looks like it's going for the same audience as My Adventures with Superman and that was a painful show to witness, so I don't think this is gonna be for me. Yeah this one is probably gonna get cancelled, I'm sure we'll see the 1-2 seasons that were greenlit in advance and that will be it. It's just so hard to take off especially if your main release place is on a TV channel...

      >X-Men 97
We know it got 2 greenlit seasons so far. Marketing they're really pandering to the nostalgia crowd and there seems to be a good amount of buzz and hype around it surprisingly, so I can see this getting more seasons if it isn't complete shit.

      >Creature Commandos
With how much of a trainwreck everything has been with WB, the chances of this one surviving are looking grim. But, at the same time, they decided to not scrap this or sell it off like Batman Caped Crusader, so maybe this will be surprisingly good? I think a cool French animation studio is working on it so I hope this is the surprise of the year or something. Never heard of this DC property before so maybe they could have picked so more well known people for a show, whatever.

        >Totally Spies
To be fair, the last time they rebooted it, it didn't take off so I can see this being a stand alone season. Depends what their marketing plan is with it.

        >Arcane S2
Very expensive production, but it was super successful and highly praised in general, so I think this one is still gonna chug along for now.

        >Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
No idea what to expect out of this one. Marvel/Disney don't seem to know fully what they want to do with the franchise and now they're throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. I really need to see a trailer for this one to see what tone they're going for. It's Spider-Man though so I assume it's automatically gonna get a few seasons.

        >Even though I said indie stuff aside, Murder Drones was only meant to be 1 season long I think, I haven't followed it so I don't know for sure

        >Invincible
S3 confirmed already, no surprises there.

        2/2

Spiderman show looks really intriguing if it's actually animated like that -- I'm really curious how it looks in motion.

It does look interesting, same, I wonder what the final product looks like in motion. Some anons are saying it's 3D but I'm not sure.

Yeah I may be wrong on that, not sure if it's gonna be on Adult Swim or CN after all, it's not clear. Since they moved the Superman show to AS I thought they did the same for it but nothing has been announced from what I can see.

I think at some point this show was meant to tie into the MCU, so it's possible. It's no longer MCU affiliated, though, so some of these characters may have been given redesigns.

Yeah, these are pretty early concept pieces. But also at the same time the early leaked art of X-Men 97 stayed true to the final product we got.

We have no idea whether Murder Drones will continue with a second season until Episode 8 comes out. Unlike The Amazing Digital Circus, Glitch/Liam Vickers haven't come out and said whether it will be a single season affair or not. In fact, they regularly tease the ambiguity of a second season by repeatedly referring to the first 8 episodes as "season 1" and "this season", implying the possibility of a Season 2.

Regardless, even if it DOES get a Season 2, a second season would only be possible after The Amazing Digital Circus wraps up which will likely take around a year. So I would probably say that if it does get confirmed, it would show up around 2025.

I mean, I think the merch for MD sold good, so I won't be surprised if they make more. Plus Glitch have that other show they teased last year at their event.

MD merch sells extremely well, even if MD itself is smaller than (the incredibly viral) TADC so it wouldn't surprise me either. Every time I see an episode premier, the merch sells out almost instantly every time. And given how MUCH merch there is available, clearly a lot of it sells.

It's kind of hard to say when most of the shows aren't out yet. If it really bothers you that much, I guess Digital Circus seems to be the safest option, but its kinda cynical since it's filled with existential dread so you probably won't like any of these shows I think?

It's story driven, but a good chunk of it is told visually, and some of it only appears for a split second, like picrel.
MatPat tackled the show on Game Theory and got some of the story completely wrong because he didn't read between the lines. He viewed the main villain like someone out of Mein Kampf when it's actually closer to something out of The Call of Cthulhu.

I recommend going through the first 2 episodes to get a proper feel for the series. The first episode was also the pilot, and they were going for a completely different direction back then. But it's not like the change comes out of nowhere, either; all the pieces are there from the start.

I should probably add that every Murder Drones episode so far after the first is an homage to a different horror or thriller movie:
      >Episode 2: The Thing (eldritch paranoia-enducing monster)
      >Episode 3: Carrie (prom massacre)
      >Episode 4: Friday the 13th (camp massacre)
      >Episode 5: The Shining (freaky mansion with lots of mind-screw)
      >Episode 6: Jurassic Park (robo-velociraptors)

The imagery goes so hard in this show, I love it. It's edgy, in a good way. I'm really into eldritch/lovecraftian shit in general.

Not that anon, but is it more episodic or purely story driven?

Like the other anon said, it's purely story driven. There is a larger narrative that is slowly unravelled as it goes on, the characters uncover more and more of the mystery and you sort of have to put it together. You might be very confused at first, but the show does show you all the information you need to know visually you just sort of have to pay attention. I like it because I enjoy shows that respect your intelligence enough to not spoonfeed everything to you through exposition and storyboard montages of the plot, but obviously this sort of thing won't be for everyone. Basically, I would really recommend it if you enjoy puzzling mystery shows.

I'm looking forward to Arcane, I'll tolerate Invincible Fight Girl. But I feel myself losing interest in cartoons overall, and that's a shame.

Yeah, I lost interest long ago but I balance things out with my other hobbies and vidya, anime, manga, the occasional comic. Then like 3 times a year maybe there's a Western cartoon that I watch that's a new release, plus I like rewatching older kino cartoons and movies.

Arcane 2 is gonna be fricking awesome
