what’s the deal with VHS being trendy and desirable all of a sudden? it’s a shit format, why do nerds care about it so much?
what’s the deal with VHS being trendy and desirable all of a sudden? it’s a shit format, why do nerds care about it so much?
>all of the sudden
are you going to start telling me that "we zoomers just got into audio cassettes" next
yes, but it’s not really zoomers it’s millennials with mustaches and mullets who can’t tell the difference between troma and real life
>can't tell the difference between troma and real life
Sounds based
No idea, but many of your favorite motion pictures and Animu had their best ever transfers on LD
redpill me on laserdiscs anon
A true analogue disc based format that existed when the negatives of classic films/Animu had yet to deteriorate. DVD is superior for anything made after 2000 though. Most 80s anime had their best releases on LD, so did many B movies whose negatives were poorly preserved
I know what laserdisc is I’m not a zoomer. What are the benefits of it?
Just that some releases had better transfers
It was not a superior format
Especially because of how many players actually have worse picture over s-video than they do on composite
It's a complete meme for anything that wasn't intentionally shot on video. And even then, most of that is still too high end to look right on VHS. I suppose some cartoons might qualify as "designed" to be on the format.
The depth of the tape itself and its cassette intrigues them, and the tape almost looks like film. Much better than soulless discs that have no mystery.
I collect rare vinyls so I can rip the music and put them online.
I also buy silent-era reels as many “small” no-name movies never got a re-release but I do not have any equipment to do this.
I don’t know about VHS but I suppose there must be some obscure shit out there from that era.
>I don’t know about VHS but I suppose there must be some obscure shit out there from that era.
If you can find a particular one from 1982, you could potentially become rich overnight. And I'm not even talking store bought, like a VHS tape with a certain film on it from television.
I don’t know about “rich”. This stuff takes a long time to sell. I’ve sold some obscure horror VHS for $300-$400.
I assure there's material out there worth a nice house in a good neighborhood, that kind of instant wealth. And I'm talking cream of the crop ultra-wanted, not obscure garbage.
>I’ve sold some obscure horror VHS for $300-$400.
that's pretty good, anon. Worth it for all parties since as you know, some VHS material is never being ported to anything because of lolyers.
>And I'm talking cream of the crop ultra-wanted, not obscure garbage.
they are one in the same
although to be fair some of this garbage has more heart and soul than a lot of stuff I’ve seen, and some are truly unwatchable
Reminds me of Def-Con 4. It's nearly terrible, but not quite because of some good acting by one actor who was in Dances with Wolves.
picrel is the best of all this sorta stuff
Apparently since youtube won't allow me to download it.
How much does that sell for?
original tapes of it I have seen go for $200 - $350. depends on the version, they are replicas that still sell for like $50 - $75. You can watch it on Tubi.
>youtube won't allow me to download it
>guess I gotta pay 600 dollars for it
this is the state of vhs collecting lol. every fricking decent movie has been ripped and is online you just have to look more places than fricking youtube lmao. like nintendo homosexuals who refuse to learn about roms and emulators
I merely asked, calm your breasts, but yeah in the end it can be like dat.
there are playlists on YouTube of SOV horror.
this ones in Italian with English title cards in the beginning, crazy shit, you don’t even have to understand the language it’s wild. from IMDb:
>Underground Italian extremely gory, gross-out "comedy" (in early John Waters vein) about a badly burnt morphine junkie who is turned into a zombie after he gets injected with infected urine by his pug-ugly, crazy sister
Goddamn that’s another one I used to own in the early 2000s I bought for like 3 bucks at a video store selling it used. No idea whatever happened to it I really wish I held on to all the horror tapes I used to have never would’ve guessed they’d be so valuable one day. I think my parents threw most of them out when I was away at college
No.
yes they are. those are the big money VHS tapes, especially the shot-on-video ones. what the frick do you mean “no”? explain yourself
Jesus..I was talking about way more money than 15 hundred.
like what
Like versions of Superman I, III, III, and IV, and at least one early Star Wars cut. Then there's a Goonies tape, official and unofficial that lots of people would pay dearly for, anon.
lol
I know several people that would pay as high as a half million for the Star Wars one alone.
you’re comparing niche horror movies that were shot on a camcorder to Star Wars. you’re a gay.
You're not seeing that it doesn't matter. Phag.
this is you
If you could only read the thread before replying, laddie.
delusional moron on the same level as people selling disney clamshells
ok i know im simply saying just because it isnt on youtube doesnt mean it isnt available.
good thing they dont have to do that then
>delusional moron on the same level as people selling disney clamshells
Some those early ones, if sealed, are worth a ton, not millions a ton, though.
Sealed black diamond ones do go for stupid prices, but yes those moronic news stories, yeah I'm aware of them.
any sealed tape has become “valuable” mostly through manipulation of morons. those Disney tapes are worth jack shit and anyone who believes they are worth anything is just a mark who got worked
>im aware of the moronic news stories and still believe them trust me I know what im talking about but those news stories dont
moron
only a moron like him would believe the VHS grading scam going on right now
>yeah bro this sealed copy of Risky Business I put in a plastic case and slapped an arbitrary number grade on it is totally worth $50000!
idk how many times we as a society can go thru another grading scam. the general public doesn't have the ability to recognize a scam and only sees dollar signs.
stupidity is increasing exponentially so I am not surprised
Have you ever sold pic related? At that price?
if you scroll up you will see I said things such as this take a very long time to sell and the most I ever sold a horror VHS for was close to $400 (Curvaceous Corpses and Hack-O-Lantern, specifically) but that does not mean autistic nerds do not buy it. I don’t have any $1500 tapes to sell.
sorry, thanks for your patience. You do sound based.
no worries, thanks anon
Rare musicgay here. Thank you for your contribution. I learned something tonight.
I’ll pay attention to rare VHS in the future; not for money but for what it is.
People may list them at these prices there’s no chance in hell they’ll ever sell them at those prices
you are right, they expect an offer to be made
Jesus how much disposable income do these artists have that they can throw away that much money on something so useless
*artists=autists
Sorry phoneposting… i guess im the real autist here
>tfw constantly see old horror vhs go for obscurd prices online and half of these exact same vhs I used to own and ended up giving away for free to friends like 15+ years ago or selling for a few bucks at a yard sale
Frick me
SOV horror is extremely based but the original tapes are extremely rare and expensive
Hipster zoomers larpong on our GenX /millennial culture
If vhs is so popular again why won’t any company start manufacturing VCRs again? I needs a new one and it’s hard to find any in good condition online for cheap these days
that’s what I don’t understand either.
:
Also "VHS" you know, the movie?
youll see vcrs in urban outfitters in 3 years
it forces you to pay attention to the movie because half way thru you have to get up and flip the disk
this. at least start makin the DVD/VHS combo players again
VCD will give you all of the terrible viewing experience without half of the terrible technical problems. And almost anything made these days that can play DVD can play VCD
post sold listings or gtfo
I threw all my VHS tapes in the trash years ago.
>Eventually they will come for the trackers like they did WCD
>Entire libraries of Alexandrias will be deleted overnight and gone forever
I still haven't recovered bros.
>Its a zoomer gets filtered episode
