I always thought that having different colors would have been better in the original series. Like sailor moon for example.
But the shape and the design of the girls made them unique.
New designs are like regular clothes, it is like they are going to a party, they feel too mundane.
i kind of like Will's new design besides the lack of a tan. But yeah the rest look off like they look like a mix of just random fabric and just thrown on. Really the original designs at least had things like those weird fabric curves that made them feel less like just normal clothes.
Really I'd say take the feet part and mix them with the old designs and you've got peak kino. Get tummy and feet truly a degenerate wonderland
I find that the fact that Meridian doesn’t have a bunch of nice monsters trying to leave and awful regime as being cheap. Meridian was probably my favorite part of the OG run when I was a kid with bleak atmosphere, a bunch of sob stories, and beings of different levels of tragedy. If they wanted to avoid the ‘white savior trope’ they literally could have just made Elyon a monster girl too. Now it’s just a girl with sand. I hate writers who genuinely want to avoid conflict and archs and make everything more shallow for the ‘current year’.
Unfortunately cope. I think they left it vague and removed most aspects of Elyon’s story for a number of reasons to avoid just general villian conflict, to make conflict stem from the system itself, and to avoid ‘problematic’ elements that really could’ve been worked around if they tried. They have no intention of touching that world or implying other worlds are different from Earth. Even ignoring ‘problematic’ shit this was written by someone who really doesn’t want villains like Cedric and Phobos to affect the girls in any meaningful way. This is just as close as they can actually get to standard western coffee shop AU lack of consequence and stakes they were probably allowed to be with the IP. I think if they worked with something original it would’ve been way worse but I have a feeling some stuff was mandated at the very least.
They're probably gonna have more stakes because they need to show off the guardian transformations to make merch off of them. But it's gonna be really moronic/sanitized conflict like the oracles sending henchmen or something
For me it was Cornelia but I completely get where you're coming from. She joins the witch club "just because" and her tragic backstory makes 0 sense. She was such a non-character
I do agree with you but I think there is nuance about this, I don't like the reboot book, I think the art and writing is inferior to the original. Shouldn't we as consumers demand a better product? shouldn't we as fans ask for a better reintroduction to this characters for the newer generations?
The originals will always exist, a reboot doesn't erase the original but makes it harder for newcomers to find it, for a lot of people this will be their first introduction to the franchise I don't don't think will be a good one.
>Shouldn't we as consumers demand a better product
I haven't read the reboot yet, but my point is that the original character design is not "superior" objectively. Most of us like it better because it has that y2k vibe and is less normalized than the more anime-inspired one from the reboot, but it doesn't mean it's the better one
what I call y2k designs is what I mostly associate with the 2000s, i.e. characters who often have big heads, are often very slim, with very colourful clothes, more geometrical shapes,...
not entirely sure how to describe it honestly, I'm no graphic artist
>animu style
?? The original cartoon had anime styles. This screams western webtoon or tumbler artist. If you think otherwise post 1 anime with a similar art style.
man you never realize how bad it really is until you see it. As someone said last thread they really twinkified some of the dads. Also why make taranee's mom black i guess they are against race mixing kek.
the dads really got shafted
most of the nu-dads don't even look like a "father".
If you've told me that Teranee's dad is actually her brother I would believe you
>If you've told me that Teranee's dad is actually her brother I would believe you
Even her mom looks 10 or 20 years older than her dad.
I also find it funny that they make the dad lose weight, but they make the mom gain weight.

Taranee's dad is actually somewhat similar to someone...
Tara's dad looks somewhat like her birth father in the original. New Power introduced this, by the way
GROSS why the frick didn't they at least let Witchgay handle the reboot or that guy who wanted to turn it into The Elder Scrolls + Assassin's Creed 2 ?
why did they make Irma black/indian
Wow they look so much worse now
Old designs looked like a combination of dolls and faux anime which was pretty charming. The new ones look like what? Webtoons?
I wouldn't have changed anything, I would have just made a continuation with the guardians' daughters.
the shit art on the left probably cost more than the one on the right.
Peak soulless
When they transform they get adult bodies I guess they're keeping them as teens in this version.

>that lower amount of tummy
>The original outfits seem magical, as if she dresses like fantasy fairies.
>the new outfits are boring, becoming mediocre.
I like nothing about these designs.

I'd still frick every single one of them.

Is it too much copium to think they'll retcon it back in

I prefer the old designs for all but the bottom left girl. Her original hair was just weird.
Only upgrade in design but biggest downgrade in personality
oh yeah definitely agree there, just finished reading it and she was easily the most boring.
For me it was Cornelia but I completely get where you're coming from. She joins the witch club "just because" and her tragic backstory makes 0 sense. She was such a non-character
they look like they want to die
Will already does
Get more lively art for once, the reboot art is technically competent but you can see its ways stiffer that the original, it lacks that charm.
Guys I know we're all nostalgic to 2000s character design but it's time we move on...

I was mad when they updated Elfées artstyle too
I'm curious what is it so y2k about them? I get people wear different clothes now a days, but what do you mean exactly?
The wispy/angular designs are more y2k. The reboot artstyle is softer and more rounded in comparison
what I call y2k designs is what I mostly associate with the 2000s, i.e. characters who often have big heads, are often very slim, with very colourful clothes, more geometrical shapes,...
not entirely sure how to describe it honestly, I'm no graphic artist
Thing is it already sold like hotcakes with kids because og fans aren't even considered anymore
I wouldn't mind the animu style if they had better designs and less washed out colors
Few artists really understand the anime style, most believe it's just bright colors and pointy chins.
>animu style
?? The original cartoon had anime styles. This screams western webtoon or tumbler artist. If you think otherwise post 1 anime with a similar art style.
Meant animu as in faux-anime. I don't disagree with you
Side character edition
Poor Harold.
