That was the worst part about the whole episode.

    >Character explains how his work could help save lives to an audience of thousands
    >Audience members congratulate him on the potential of his work
    >Next day he's back to putting things in filing cabinets
    >his work is banned outright because of ethical concerns
    >Entire speech was fricking pointless, discussing illegal research

Pretty sure the end of his story was far worse than that part.

"Why hello there, random ass ex-empire woman! You know, we just arrested this guy for conspiracy and illegal research! Funny thing, he keeps saying you were involved!"

"Oh, you're his friend? Well you see that would actually give a lot of credibility to him saying you're involved in illegal research. But instead, come on into this control room filled with potentially highly dangerous equipment!"

"Yes yes he is exposition dumping the danger of that thing, and for no reason at all I suddenly feel like doing an exposition dump myself! You see, it's safe now, but if you were to turn this little knob, it goes up to dangerous levels! This one, right here, do you see it, person he's accusing of aiding in conspiracy and thus has a reason to want him dead? This knob right here. No, it doesn't have a lock on it to keep it from going to the level we said it's not allowed to go, why would you think that? In fact, it goes up even higher! Sure, that entire danger could be avoided with a little stopper to keep it from turning any farther, or a lock that needs to be opened to allow it to go that high if you have clearance, but we like the little knob!"

"Oh look, this incredibly invasive medical procedure is starting. Whelp, better go hit the old dusty trrrraiilll. Yep, just gonna leave, no reason why, just feel like it. Gonna leave you, the person he keeps saying is setting him up, alone in this room, while the procedure is ongoing, after having told where the danger button is, alone. Just gonna fricking up and leave because holy shit this is the dumbest fricking thing since Palpatine announced his return on Fortnite, just zero logical explanation after in your face, shitty exposition dumps."

"Glad we spent most of the episode on you!"

But he wasn't simply a mad scientist he was presented as one of the top in his field. Assuming he's one of few left alive, his work could actually be used to advance the New Republic.
And what's the big deal with cloning anyway? Didn't those fricks on Kamino master that technology 30 years ago?

            >And what's the big deal with cloning anyway?
You know how in real life, eugenics could ultimately have major benefits to humanity, but because the Baddest Man Ever was a proponent of eugenics, all major Earth governments are currently anti-eugenics, at least publicly?

Now consider that the majority of important people in the SW galaxy are aware that a clone army was created and used to bring about the Empire.

              >Now consider that the majority of important people in the SW galaxy are aware that a clone army was created and used to bring about the Empire.

That's my point above. Nazi-Germany came close to world domination. When the powers that be finally killed Hitler America brought over the top minds of the Nazi party to continue their mad scientist research.
It was that very same research that at one point during the war had the United States on its knees.

There is definitely someone within the New Republic that would want to utilize a clone army or eugenics in general BECAUSE of the power it created.

My other point is this show is kinda treating cloning technology like it's new. Like they're almost there and on the brink of solving the equation.

      He's not dead.

When the camera cuts away before you see a third character confirm the death, it means the character is still alive.

I don't think Pershing got killed at the end. The woman who backstabbed him is clearly a double agent still aligned with the empire. I think she just wanted to torture him for renouncing the empire and the work they did. She'll probably give him some spiel the next episode like

        >See this is what the New Republic is - they torture people in secret and make us turn on each other, while masquerading as the good guys
        >The empire was bad but it wore its evil on it's sleeve, and they let you work. Let's go back to them.

The New Republic is just moronic - it fails to utilise the potential of Pershing (he would be able to apply his skills to other fields of biology besides cloning); it destroys useful data simply on account it was created/used by the Empire; and, all while Imperial warlords still exist, it has disbanded the Rebel Alliance fleet + is scrapping the Imperial one. On top of all that, the episode also makes them come across as sinister and dystopian with the implied Chinese reeducation camps the Imperials gets put through, giving people numbers like residents of the Village in The Prisoner, the 1984-esque test of loyalty they did on Pershing, and that mind flayer.

Keep in mind this is the same New Republic that didn't like the icky connotations of using captured Imperial Super Star Destroyers or building their own versions then turned around and did the same thing building 17km long Mon Calamari Star Defenders as if the name change and non-triangular shape made it all better.

I find it a weird direction for them to go with, both in general and even more so specifically within this show. In general it just makes the Rebels from the OT look bad by the episode saying 'Actually the good guys are not good and the Rebellion was sort of pointless as they became just like the evil empire.' Now that is something you could maybe successfully explore in Star Wars but, I don't think this is the show to do it within; it does not really fit in with overall tone of Mando nor is it something the majority of that audience would be interested. Perhaps the biggest issue is the execution comes across as both shallow and edgy. It is also something I can just see not being explored any further, or if they do their expansion just worsens the problems with it.

Disney has been saying that from the beginning. All roads lead to the sequels. And the idea that gayloni (who loves the ST) and gayreau are going to retcon it is unfounded copium.

I don't see how we can say the First/Final Order got popular. Its members seem to be either former-Empire, the children of former-Empire or people captured as children. The First Order was an Imperial remnant that fled, conciliated (all while the New Republic did frick all), then was able to hold the galaxy hostage by each ship having Death Star technology.

Bad Batch series basically shows the cities of Kamino were destroyed by orbital bombardment shortly after the Old Republic became the Empire.

      >Are they even part of the New Republic?
It is not even clear what constitutes the New Republic. Imperial warlords are apparently still a thing and, as much as we may wish to forget about it, the First Order exists (or will). In the Prequels Tatooine was not under jurisdiction of the Republic and now I am guessing Boba Fett runs it. Speaking of the Prequels, what about all the systems that wanted independence from the Republic in the Clone Wars? I doubt they are going to be happy if everything has just reverted back to the status quo pre-Empire.
      >So what happened to Kamino if cloning is banned?
If the question is why does Pershing not go to work at Kamino, the answer is how could he when he was imprisoned by the New Republic and under probation/surveillance.

        Anonymous

We can't even say for sure if Boba is still running Tatooine. At the end of TBoBF, as soon as he cemented his control over Mos Espa, he says to Fennic that they should look to go off on some new adventures, presumably off-world.

I hate it when they do shit like that. The entire season was about him making his mark and becoming Daimyo. Then as soon as he does, he decides to frick off somewhere else.

You have to wonder who was Kamino selling clones to before the Clone Army? Obi-Wan had never heard of it nor did that Jedi librarian or Yoda. There is nothing which suggests clone armies were a thing before the Clone Army. Even if we say people went to Kamino for cloning before the Clone Army, surely the demand for cloning was no where the near the level of an entire army.

In the EU, there were a few topics that the overall galactic society at large considered taboo.

            >Voluntary replacement of organic body parts with cybernetics
            >Cloning
            >life-prolonging technology past 150 or so years for humans

One planet in the EU was nothing but clones because they had "perfected" their society a long time ago, but one of the clones in the current generation was randomly Force-sensitive and threw a big wrench into their planned society. After that planet got exposed to the wider galaxy, iirc there was some friction because the rest of the galaxy was weirded out by a planet of clones.

Through proxy of Dooku and/or Sifo-Dyas the Clone Army got commissioned by Sidious (and maybe Plagueis was also involved) - I can't remember the exact details, and it make differ between canon. In any case, the point I was making was it seems Kamino's entire economy is based on cloning, yet, if so where was their market coming from before the ordering of the large Clone Army?
