What does this OBESE frick know about war?

Meanwhile Tolkien saw the horrors of war firsthand fighting in the trenches in WW1. He saw many of his friends die from artillery, machine gun fire and disease. I'm pretty sure his unit was almost completely wiped out.

Tolkien was invalided in England due to sickness at the time his men were mostly wiped out. While he didn't have a remarkable military career, he did see action at the Somme and led enlisted men as an officer. More experience than the fat man, who dodged his generation's war entirely.

He was a signalling officer, he didn't see any action at all (as per Martin Gilbert's interview). His job was parroting HQ's orders at the actual fighting men and tattling on them if they didn't do as told. Read Richard van Emden, HQ were pigs and Tolkien was a coward who ducked out of actual combat.

In that capacity he would have been posted to the front line, in artillery range of the enemy. Even though he was never hit he would have witnessed shelling firsthand, and dealt with wounded men. Forward signals units had pretty high casualty rates in WW1.

Signalling officers don't go to the front line, they work behind them so they can lay landlines.
Tolkien had a primary source interview where he described he never saw anyone getting shot, only heard them from afar

                Anonymous

One of the duties of Signals units is to follow an assault to establish communication lines with the newly captured position. They had high casualty rates befitting units that operated within artillery range of the enemy, if not often - or ever in Tolkien's own case - in small arms range.
I don't know if Tolkien would even have denied being a coward - he certainly seemed reluctant to go to war - but he went and men in his unit were killed in action. Inherently he would know far more about it than the fat man.

                Anonymous

In Tolkien's case he and his unit worked in already established communication lines and slept in tents above ground and rarely ever in dugouts, as per his interviews again. Not in small arms range at all, Tolkien again described he was only occasionally within shelling range.
He didn't go to war either, the first opportunity he had he faked being sick and spent the entire war hiding in a hospital so conveniently right before his battalion were due for their first real battle.

It's how a great majority of stories have always been, this connection grey characters + misery = postmodernism is a moronic pseud illiterate claim that never fails to be wrong 100% of the time
Martin is a postmodernist, but not for the reasons discussed in the video, and certainly that's not the cause of the series being stuck which is his central thesis.

If it was just that allegory it would have been finished 3 books ago, but it wasn't.

I'd also add that climate change is modern discourse and thus involves post modernism but it on itself doesn't require post modern philosophy to be discussed, you can have a position on the issue even if you follow any other more traditional current of thought.

A lot of Americans appear envious of the Brit Cinemaphile tradition even tho they have produced a lot of good stuff themselves. I think a lot of Martin's stuff is just shitting on Tolkien. For instance the Targs resemble the elves, with Celeborn and Thraundail being silver-haired in the books and Dany acting like a "Lady of Light figure to the brown people the way Galadrieel was to the Hobbits. But unlike the elves they are insane murder rapists who he describes pooping themselves in rather silly detail
This might be reaching but then there are the animals themselves which are fantasy beasts from Tolkien's works (dragons, wolves) but can't talk like Tolkien's did and are mindless

American right-wingers don't realize what damage the mustache man caused in Europe. Living there I lived near gorgeous churches that they bombed
Wtf do they not realize that the Nazis weren't White nationalists, they were German nationalists. If JRRT was alive today he would be voting brexit to separate himself from the c**ts because what concerned him wasn't /misc/tard concerns but keeping the Germans from his land.
He would probably also hate Martin for being German

Nobody likes dany charpters except women
She should have been a threat mentioned to our POVs in kings landing but should only have become a POV herself when ready to sail to westeros

Dany and Viserys worked best as a threat lingering in the corners of the book, maybe the first few chapters with Viserys and Dany's interactions were interesting but then when she is with the Mongol pedophile it quickly becomes boring. Once both pedo bro and pedo Mongol are dead Dany is a flat ass character

Britain bombed Germany first. Hitler actually didn't retaliate for several months and sent numerous requests to Britain to open negotiations or at least de-escalate bombings before retaliating with his own bombing campaign.

The Polish soldiers literally beat German newborns to death with the butts of their rifles.

France and Britain had no legitimate involvement in the war as Danzig voted for reunification with Germany 9 years in a row.

Now show a map of the world in 1939 and tell me who was trying to conquer the world. Was it Germany, seeking peaceful reunification with a small free city that voted to join them? Or maybe the country that literally colonized 3 continents.

The most ironic thing about ww2 is that amid all the propaganda, it was Joseph Stalin himself who gave the most realistic assessment of the war when he said (paraphrasing): the war was caused because Germany lost its ability to negotiate for its own interests on the international stage and wanted to be able to once again hold diplomacy with Britain and France as equals.

Everyone agrees the versaille treaty was unfair, it's a universally recognized historical fact
But that doesn't justify the level of spergout that germany did, they broke the treaty and no one did anything to them, but then also started annexing neighbors and that was crossing a line

Germanbos ignore the fact that England initially did want to appease Germany and let them have Poland. Then Germans started to attack other allies of Britain and pissed them off

            >they broke the treaty and no one did anything to them,
No, Britain and France broke the treaty first, almost right away. Which is extremely pathetic because it was an unequal treaty they wrote and they couldn't even live up to their own paltry obligations; like protecting Memel as a free city
            >but then also started annexing neighbors and that was crossing a line
Who did Germany annex? Austria? They voted for reunification. Sudetenland? The German-speaking public wanted reunification but were being persecuted by the Czech government. Germany was given Sudetenland by international agreement. Bohemia and Slovakia? They requested to become German protectorates after the union disintegrated. Danzig? Voted for reunification 9 years in a row.

The only other lands Hitler annexed before 1941 were Alsace-Lorraine, which was German-speaking land annexed by France in ww1, and Luxembourg, which is a German-speaking microstate that doesn't have much point to its existence besides being a historical artifact.

              >they voted for reunification
Killing the country's leader and forcing a reunification is a sleight of hand, not the democratic process at play. Same goes for the technicalities that allowed them to justify other annexations

                >every german was being persecuted and genocided, we swear, we HAD to annex our neighbours
Unironically yes. It was France's policy to "contain" Germany by surrounding it with radical anti-German French satellites, which were given a large number of German-speaking peoples in direct violation of the entente's professed ideology of national self-determination
                >they voted for reunification
Killing the country's leader and forcing a reunification is a sleight of hand, not the democratic process at play. Same goes for the technicalities that allowed them to justify other annexations
                Technicalities like a fricking referendum?

And it wasn't Germany that went around killing and replacing a country's entire ruling class.

The Allies literally murdered Czech President Emil Hacha, executed Germany's entire ruling class, half of France's ruling class, imprisoned its President, Petain to replace it with pro-British collaborator De Gaulle. They oversaw the imprisonment and execution of numerous eastern European governments under the soviets without so much as a note of protest.

Kek, is this an anti-Catholic post? Tolkien is regularly being accused of being racist and that's the only reason he gets conferences about diversity after his death, people try to justify it because of his popularity
Will Shakespea literally wrote three plays about White women sleeping with blacks and portrayed them as sympathetic and the person against interracial relationships as the villain
