No he was just autistically observant but he was able to grift for eight straight seasons. It always kind of frustrated me where people placed their beliefs in his abilities though. Obviously guster his father and Lassiter know he's full of shit, but ironically all the females in the main cast like the chief and Juliet for some reason believe him and Juliet is heartbroken when she discovers that Sean was lying about his psychicness the entire time. I don't know if that was just comedically ironic or straight faced stupidity. Regardless the show is pretty good there's peaks and valleys I think in the quality of the seasons. 2 3 and 4 and 5 I think are great. But it's been a while since I've seen the whole thing and I'd have to systemically go through it I remember season 1 being pretty weak though.
I wanted to think that too but like they never gave her a clear yes or no answer and sometimes it seems like she really believed it
I think he was a little bit, but didn't even realize it himself. They kind of hint at it, plus it just makes for really good irony
I mean psychicness requires you to be able to like have premonitions and tell the future and shit I don't remember him even getting a tiny bit of that. I think it would be kind of cool if like maybe his abilities were so damn good that it transcended logical reasoning. Like for some reason he is so good at being observant that he questions whether or not it may be real sometimes or leave it as like a comedic little bit.
>I wanted to think that too but like they never gave her a clear yes or no answer and sometimes it seems like she really believed it
Sometimes, yeah, but I was always under the impression that she probably knew. Seems like they tried to very subtly hint at that throughout the show with her moments of skepticism/inquiry. I got the feeling she wanted Shawn to do a better job of keeping up appearances because it'd probably be her ass if he was ever found out.
The chief was friends with his dad, she knew he was lying from day one. Letting on that she knew removed any ounce of plausible deniability she's gonna need to rely on if a superior and/or the media shows up and starts poking around. Plus she always seemed to be way too stressed out and busy to give much of a frick as long as his shenanigans had positive results she could use to justify a larger budget for the precinct.

I remember several instances of him having "bad feelings about this" but yes it was never clear cut, and moreover oftentimes he was wrong about everything
Chief definitely knew, there's an episode where he wants to tell her the truth and she stops him so she can keep plausible denial. Jules was dumb a frick but she's an absolute cutie so all is forgiven.
>We never got a Scooby-doo spoof episode with Lassie as Scooby
It was also the biggest frick up from the writers and easily the dumbest point in the entire show. Jules is meant to be seen as an intelligent and capable detective. Is she qualified for the position or fricking dumb enough to actually believe the charming moron with the strict ex-cop dad is actually psychic? Because its one or the other, and forcing that conflict into the story completely ruined her character.
Both. The cold open to pretty much every episode is a scene of his dad ruining his childhood with some lesson on being a good detective. And despite being a complete frick up, all those lessons stuck in Shawn's head.
Most of the events in the show range from highly improbable to utterly impossible. The fact that someone like Anthony Michael Hall's character in a later season didn't show up after like Shawn's third case to find out why the frick so much of the city police budget was going to a rando psychic is totally mind boggling.
They were able to afford a large office right near the beach in a city in California. They were making bank. Them being broke was only ever mentioned in the handful of episodes where they weren't being hired.
it is established that gus needs to chip in with his own salary just to make ends meet, and they were getting money from private customers too
Their consultation fee was probably lower than a normal PD officer salary on average, but even if it were twice as much, it wouldn't look anomalous in a large city PD budget
>It was definitely distracting that that was the straw that broke the camel's back for Juliet and Shawn
They're also immediately back together like nothing happened in the next season, if I remember right. Obviously the writers either realized they dun goofed or someone in charge told them to fix that shit. I know she has a huge issue with being lied to because of her father or whatever, but he demonstrates to her numerous times through out the series that he has pretty decent observation and deduction skills. She also knows he scored higher than both her and Lassie on the police detective exam. How the frick does such a well educated and qualified detective utterly miss all the clues that Shawn was never psychic? The only person she has any right to be angry with in this situation is herself and she should have resigned immediately.
I love when he went to the gifted children school. >"Maybe you're not psychic, maybe you're just hyper-observant?"
A lot of meta jokes in this show, and generally a lot of good clever fun. Like the coroner putting on makeup and pretending to be a corpse, since that's what actual corpses in tv shows are.
Henry really wasn't a bad dad, strict and demanding, sure, but he was never violent with Shawn, and there's plenty of cold open where he's bonding with his son just fine.
The only reason Shawn and Henry had a falling out was that he led Shawn to believe he was the one that wanted the divorce when it was the other way around. If it wasn't for that Shawn would have probably become a detective.
>woman reaches her hand out to Shawn to shake his hand >"Hello, you must be Shawn Spencer, the psychic detective! I'm Mabel, my pronouns are—" >Shawn puts his middle finger to his temple >high pitched ringing noises >camera focuses in on Mabel's breasts, high heels, purse >Shawn lowers his hand and extends it to shake Mabel's >"She/her/hers?" Shawn says with a smirk >Mabel's mouth gapes in amazement >"Wow, that is really incredible! How do you do that?" >"Oh, it's a gift."
He didn't like being around his dad and he wanted to see the world.
He mention a couple times that he did odd jobs in different countries until he came back.
Love this show. But it's so weird how everything revolves around Shawn. In every scene, people talk to Shawn and he talks to them, but the other people never talk or interact with each other. I think the only exception is the police/detectives who interact with each other. It's most noticeable with Gus and Henry, where they literally won't say a word to each other no matter how serious the conversation is. Gus should be like a second son to Henry because of how close Gus is to Shawn, and they've had plenty of interaction since Gus was a kid.
>That episode where Shawn says a T-Rex did it and it turns out a T-Rex actually did it >Lassie gets into a depression because he doesn't have the mental capacity to assume dinosaurs are involved in his weekly murders

Jules is dumb as frick. I got the feeling that the chief always knew or had suspicions but didn't care because he got results.
I wanted to think that too but like they never gave her a clear yes or no answer and sometimes it seems like she really believed it

Maggie Lawson was top tier qt. Reminded me a lot of Alicia Silverstone
>I got the feeling that the chief always knew
I think she knew
I think he was a little bit, but didn't even realize it himself. They kind of hint at it, plus it just makes for really good irony
this
I remember several instances of him having "bad feelings about this" but yes it was never clear cut, and moreover oftentimes he was wrong about everything
Chief Vick definitely knew
Chief definitely knew, there's an episode where he wants to tell her the truth and she stops him so she can keep plausible denial. Jules was dumb a frick but she's an absolute cutie so all is forgiven.
>We never got a Scooby-doo spoof episode with Lassie as Scooby
Everyone knew you moron.
Jules didn't. It becomes a plot point late into the series.

dude police forces and the upper echelons routinely consult """psychics"""
samegaygin for sure. shame on you OP.
No
>Lassiter
Did Lassiter actually know?
Sure he didn't believe in being psychics but did he ever concede that Sean was a detective?
Yeah he always knew. That's why at the end when Shawn sun's out those videos basically dropping the act he closes the video
God this show is so comfy.
My favorite episode is the one with the mummy. Actually got spooked first time watching it as a teen. Those were very good times
Isn't it established from the first scene that he's just been trained into Sherlock Holmes and he's not actually psychic? I'm not super far into it.
Yes
So then why is this even a question
we're saying that even though he was faking it, he actually was a psychic
Okay
Was he trained or was it just a natural thing?
Both. The cold open to pretty much every episode is a scene of his dad ruining his childhood with some lesson on being a good detective. And despite being a complete frick up, all those lessons stuck in Shawn's head.
>Hello Mister, I'm Steven Spielberg (no relations) and this is my adopted cousin, Jordan Peele
>It's okay to stare
This guy always reminded me of Jude Law
He was in another show after this. Gallant, pretty good show but sadly canceled
Way back in days of old
There was a legend told
About a hero known as Galavant
Most of the events in the show range from highly improbable to utterly impossible. The fact that someone like Anthony Michael Hall's character in a later season didn't show up after like Shawn's third case to find out why the frick so much of the city police budget was going to a rando psychic is totally mind boggling.
>so much of the city police budget was going to a rando psychic
they're barely paid and always broke
They were able to afford a large office right near the beach in a city in California. They were making bank. Them being broke was only ever mentioned in the handful of episodes where they weren't being hired.
it is established that gus needs to chip in with his own salary just to make ends meet, and they were getting money from private customers too

tfw just finished psych bros
Watch Oz or the Shield. Neither are like Psych but both are kino

They got back together over the rest of the season but it was a gradual process over about 6-8 episodes IIRC.
Well the show isn't that serious so it's not like I wanted more drama
I tried the first episode, seems rather weak.
the pilot is probably one of the worst episodes
The first season is meh. I'd recommend picking random episodes around the middle of the show and see if you like it.
I also recommend the sea lion episode
He had an uncanny ability to recognize that the best milkshakes can be found at Red Robin®
I KNOW YOU KNOW that im not telling the truth
>It's an actual ghost episode
Spooky
I'm tired of pretending that Woody isn't the best character.
Was Shawn a good friend? I'm pretty sure Gus wouldve been better off if he never met him kek
Gus would have lived a boring life.
In the 2nd or 3rd episode it's pretty much confirmed he would've gone to an Ivy League if it werent for Shawn fricking up his spelling bee competition
He wouldn't have gone out with the cheerleader though or become popular in school. That's what truly matters
He'd also never evolve into Bruton Gaster. Come on son
You now remember the original Juliet
Wym wasn't this lassiters partner? Her and Sean never had anything
shes cute
She looks the same so I never even noticed
you'll thank me later
>No crossover despite the very last episode hinting at it
It's a b***h ass life in a b***h ass world.
>No crossover episode where Shawn and Gus discover Dexter is a serial killer
That makes me wonder: who had the shitter dad?
>Normal strict dad vs. Dad who groomed his normal son into being a serial killer
Loved those small covid episodes they did.
>It's a multiple personality disorder troony episode
>woman reaches her hand out to Shawn to shake his hand
>"Hello, you must be Shawn Spencer, the psychic detective! I'm Mabel, my pronouns are—"
>Shawn puts his middle finger to his temple
>high pitched ringing noises

Yes
Did we ever know why Sean left Santa Barbara and disappeared in the first place before he came back?
Or what he did when he disappeared?
He didn't like being around his dad and he wanted to see the world.
He mention a couple times that he did odd jobs in different countries until he came back.

for me, its lavender gooms
>That episode where Shawn says a T-Rex did it and it turns out a T-Rex actually did it
>Lassie gets into a depression because he doesn't have the mental capacity to assume dinosaurs are involved in his weekly murders
I still use the "ive heard it both ways" bit all the time
He's a lot skinnier in the first season
was he a real mindfreak?
