Was I supposed to ship these two assholes?

Seriously, I don't get it. Every single interaction the two of them share is negative, with Blitzo audibly voicing frustration whenever he needs to deal with Stolas' stupid ass. Also, Stolas is a cheater. Remember fellas, if someone cheats for you, they'll likely cheat on you. Are you really going to tell me that Stolas wouldn't get bored with Blitzo sooner or later and move on to whomever else he can get his talons onto? Fat chance. Dude destroyed his relationship with his family for wiener, imagine the ways he'd betray some random bottom-level imp like Blitzo whenever convenient.

First, IRL logic doesn't apply to cartoons. Second, the b***h deserves all the cucking in the world for mistreating him. Remember fellas, if you don't give your partner attention, they'll cheat on you.

Helluva is taking itself semi-seriously, so I'd expect it to make semi-sense. From what the show's shown me, there's not a doubt in my mind that Stolas would cheat on Blitzo the second he found someone more interesting than him.
      >Second, the b***h deserves all the cucking in the world for mistreating him.
No. We've never been shown that Stella was a bad spouse. Stolas mentions that there is no love between them, but that doesn't mean anything--Stolas could be lying or mistaken, which I wouldn't put past him. Stella could've been a perfectly fine wife, with him having unrealistic expectations of what a partner is supposed to be like and do. The worst thing she does to him is hire someone to assassinate him. Her motives are unclear, but I assume that, as royalty, she'd rather be seen by the public as a widow than a cheatee. Not saying this makes her actions justified, my point is that she wouldn't have hired an assassin if Stolas kept his dick in his pants.

          >You know men don't cheat on good wives, right?
          BAHAHAHA. I fricking wish.
Good partners get cheated on all the time. My dad's coworker got cheated on by her husband, and she was the sweetest, most considerate person I think I've ever met, to the point I view her as an aunt I never had. If she can get cheated on, no one's safe. The sad truth is that some people can't be satisfied with a normal, stable relationship. When their love for someone is fresh, it feels amazing to love and be loved by them. When they get used to them and things simmer down, it's not as much of a boost anymore, and the prospect of cheating becomes all the more palatable. This is why cheaters cheat on the person they cheated for. They eventually get bored of them, too. It would not surprise me if Stolas was this type of person.

Considering they try to make this kind of thing somewhat serious and Brandon apparently based this plot point on his own life I got to say... This is quite insulting. I personally went through this kind of thing in my family (one person in marriage cheats on another while having not that great marriage) and I got to say there are NO bad guys or good guys in this situation and the fact that Brandon seems to try to make Stella into all evil b***h while making Stolas into all around sympathetic figure to me is quite infuriating. Many things around Blitzo are just pissing me off. Like the fact that Moxxie even wants to be a friend with him after everything he said and did to him (like saying he will rape him and his wife). Like NO. Frick off. That's not how it works. Moxxie at MOST should want to tolerate him. Not be a friend with him. It's quite telling that the one episode that was the most critical of Blitzo and Stolas was the episode written by Viv.

        Anonymous

Bingo, main problems coming to light I was noting from the first episode. Blitzo threatening him and his wife with rape is crossing the line and is not funny even by black comedy standards. He is just a massive prick that should have beaten within an inch of his life by Octavia just to make up to the audience.

If he's doing it as a punishment, that implies lack of consent. I'm not100% sure about Millie but Moxxie would not want to be fricked by Blitzo. If there is a lack of consent, then there is rape.

If I was to guess Rodgers was trying to have some crude dark humor to showcase how psychotic Blitzo was and the fact they are demons at the end of the day which makes these moral arguments seem so weird. At least in Hazbin Charlie is like Jesus born in Hell and almost everyone was a human with shitty circumstances ending up in Hell. But Blitzo making threats like that does not endear him to people who already find him painfully annoying.

I don't even think it was that bad or crossing the line (that is if the writing ANKNOWLEDGED it). I just think it's fricking stupid that Moxxie even wants to be a friend with him after that. There should be some sort of consequences for that, acknowledging how much of a piece of shit Blitzo is for that, but this show quickly brushed it under the rug and tries to convince me that Blitzo and Moxxie are somehow friends (or that Moxxie wants to be his friend).

A thing forgotten in arguments like this is that Stolas is part of the Hell nobility, so it may be that his marriage to Stella is political or for keeping the bloodline pure.
A really common trope with high-society shitbags is that they frequently don't have great marriages, made a kid for their societal expectations and frick around otherwise while being snippy at eachother.

Stolas/Blitzo reminds me of me and my first bf to an almost upsetting extent

    >former Evangelical
    >family and church keep trying to set me up with church family girls
    >date after disastrous date and family is starting to talk about 'therapy'
    >transfer out of local-ish Bible college to further away engineering school
    >accept I'm not really into women and that's ok
    >tentatively join local LGBT group
    >meet a 5'5 twink
    >hit it off
    >gets me off
    >two and a half months of me trying to be a good couple
    >a month and a half of him half half-assing it
    >realize he just wanted a steady frickbuddy he didn't have to share
    >break it off
It's difficult to describe the pressure certain societies exert on you to find a wife and produce children. The few scenes we see of Stolas and Stella remind me of some of the marriages I saw growing up- a clearly unhappy husband and a wife ruthlessly hellbent on keeping up appearances. Others being able to relate to that (or, let's face it, tumblr being able to get off on homos) after being raised in a socially conservative environment shouldn't be surprising.

The fact she hired a hitman to kill her husband makes her an antagonist to the protagonists since they need his book to work.
Morally, she will at least hurt her daughter by having Solas assassinated.

I think that's less of a Stella problem and more a problem with the show, especially in the earlier part of the season it didn't know if it wanted to portray fleshed out characters for the audience to care about, or hyper wacky Hazbin Hotel ADHD demons. Same with characters like Blitzo, he started as lolsorandom boss man who wanted to multiplayer with his employees, and a lot of those traits were dropped as the series went on. I don't attribute either case to character development and rather the series struggling to find its feet/identity

          Anonymous

I have to disagree about Blitzo.
In the second episode it was shown that he wanted to frick his employees and also had some bad history with the entertainment industry. This is basically brought up again in the last episode when he stalked the M&Ms on their anniversary followed by him being roasted by Fizzaroli. They know what to do with Blitzo, but I know it looks like they don't with how they present their show. One second everyone is either cracking jokes and/or killing shit then suddenly someone is sad and has to deal with their baggage.

          Anonymous

It's a pretty common narrative tool to show a character being weird and goofy only to show the real reason why later. Blitzo's bizarre past was hinted at in episode 2 and 3 with his relationship with the clown and the succ.

Id like to think she was no where near as aggressive before the red gremlin fricked Stolas, but I do believe they weren't happy with their marriage due to it being mostly loveless. Stella probably tried to get close with Stolas and vice versa but it just seems they don't have good chemistry.

That was kind of odd Millie wasn't showing any sort of reaction to her husband being molested. Kind of one of the issues I have with the show downplaying the most tastelessly fricked up moments.

Wish we got to see her interact with Verosika and her posse, showing her protectiveness of Moxxie by calmly threatening them in a coldly intimidating way. Her other show demonstrating sexual predation being one of the worse crimes even the Alucard stand in thought was too much. Which is why it being kind of downplayed here seems tasteless.

Or Verosika meant it as a way to make Blitzo jealous, at the expense of some poor sap. Kind of a bit too dark of humor given we still know almost nothing about the hierarchy or any sort of social rules they have besides just the strong dominate the weak. So maybe she could read his interests and was trying to please Moxxie also out of spite.

They definitely started out as purely physical/business partners, but from the last episode Stolas definitely wants to be emotional with Blitzo.
Blitzo however is under so many layers of defensiveness that Stolas will be spending quite some time trying to shuck them away untl he finds the genuine Blitzo. Stolas was making progress on this in ep 7 when he and Blitzo started small talking despite Blitzo just wanting to spy on the M&Ms, but that was cut short.
As for the cheating husband thing, Stella does not care that she was cheated on per se, more that an imp was involved and a seedy motel was considered. Most likely Stella and Stolas were an arranged marriage if that is the case.
I wouldn't say Stolas destroyed his family, but he did hurt his daughter which he knows he did and wants to repair that damage. In fact I suspect that if Stolas were to betray Blitzo it would be for his daughter.
As for your initial question: ship whomever you want, as long as you also ship Millie and Moxxie.

      Anonymous

      >but from the last episode Stolas definitely wants to be emotional with Blitzo.
Why? Why does Stolas care so much about Blitzo? What's so special about him to warrant sacrificing his familial relationships? In a world where Lust is a ring you can visit, prowess in bed doesn't mean much on its own. If the two had at least one positive interaction that wasn't sexual or manipulative then I'd understand his like for him, but there aren't, so I don't.

And I think that's my issue with Helluva Boss; it fails to show vital pieces of information. Since it hasn't demonstrated Stella being a bad wife, it's valid to interpret Stolas as the bad guy in the situation, and conclude that Blitzo is right to want nothing to do with him. Yet the show wants me to root for them getting together, but from what I've seen, this pairing doesn't make sense to me. A hypothetical rework of the story would need to clearly answer the following questions: a) How is Stella such a bad wife that cheating is worth considering? b) Why can't he divorce her? and c) Why does Stolas want Blitzo in particular?

        nails it.

He spells it out when he sings to little Octavia: He has nothing going for him except for her. All of his adventures are done, his love ran out a while ago and he's too sheepish to change anything.
Then he meets Blitzo. Blitzo is an imp, the bottom of the hell barrel, along with hell hounds. But Blitzo has done so much more and wants to do so much more than a normal imp. The spark that Blitzo brings is what Stolas needs to reignite his life. Stella won't excite him anymore. He loves Octavia but she will find her own life soon. Azzy would love to fill his desires in the lust ring, but that's just surface level. Stolas needs a deep connection, Stolas needs Blitzo.
As for the positive interactions, you are right, there hasn't been any until the last episode. Stolas referred to Blitzo asking him out as their first date, something he was excited for and didn't even care where they were going. Stolas wanted to make small talk with Blitzo. And at the end of the episode, Stolas just wanted to be with Blitzo, no innuendos, no sex, just an evening together.
The sad thing is, even if they do end up together, happy, Blitzo can still sabotage it like he has done before.

  16. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

I hate Blitzo. Gary Stu motherfricker that the creator is clearly obsessed with. They're supposed to be the lowest class and unliked by all but I can't believe that for a second with all the shit they get away with. He's banged succubus pop stars that want HIM, royalty, had previous interesting jobs, and gets out of any bad situation. The imps just seem more like normal working class humans who get to go on adventures more than most, not a hated class.

Stolas is a selfish cheater and too stupid to be in tune with his daughter or wife. They hate him for a reason because gay dad would rather think about gay sex all day.

Nobody is likeable in Helluva Boss and you can't change my mind.

You make what is generally a good point, but in Stolas’s case in particular, it’s widely assumed he was forced into a loveless arranged marriage for political breeding purposes. So he probably didn’t get bored of Stella as much as he likely never wanted her in the first place. Blitzo could be his life’s first big romance and that makes it harder to say how loyal he will be in relationships he actually cares about.

Also Stella doesn’t seem to care that Stolas is having an extra marital affair as much as she’s just pissed that Stolas is associating with someone from an unacceptably low class. It’s probably super common for aristocratic demons to keep mistresses anyway- the real issue is that Blitzo is an imp. If Stolas was fricking another high enough ranking demon, Stella might not mind. If he weren’t fricking Blitzo and was just platonic buddies with him, she’d probably be equally as ruffled as she is now.

It's a shame, but at least we got a hot wolf girl out of it and lots of fanart.

Loona, M&M, Stolas and Octavia are so much more charming and engaging than Blitzo. If Blitzo got written out for an episode for all of the main characters to do things I would love that. It doesn't have to take too much from Steven Universe by only focusing on the title character and only things can happen when the main character is around.

I'd love to see an episode taking place from Loona's perspective. The team seems to be aware she's a big draw of the show, and they should capitalize that in more than just merch.

Roxy is homophobic and Lonna has been shown to only be interested in men so far. It will never happen

Someone's gonna pen a story where Roxy becomes a real wolf, encounters Loona by chance, and then they become girlfriends. I just hope it'll be good.

I thought the point was that they're both extremely overcontrolling toxic buttholes who are more alike than Blitzo likes to admit, since they both act like over-affectionate controlling jackasses when they're in a good mood, but manifesting their frustrations with life in different ways with Blitzo going the emotionally violent route of shouting screaming and tantruming and Stolas repeatedly retreating from hardships so he won't ever have to address the roots to his very real problems and the emotional pain they cause him. And that Blitzo's refusal to acknowledge Stolas's obvious desire for emotional attachment is because he recognizes that same desire in himself, and he's reacting the only way he knows how through violent rejection and tantruming.

Was that not the point? Maybe I need to be less of a neckbeard.

Could have been Viv's intentions of the writing but won't have someone help edit besides Rodgers and he is letting his issues and annoying writing pour into the show already. I like the more interesting bits but they don't fricking do anything with them. There is an insistence for the CHERUBS and the not MIB and it is getting really old. Probably gonna stick with fanfics honestly since they will do interesting things.

Hazbin/Helluva is the only time I find fanfiction better than the actual product, and i'm pretty sure it won't change even when it's finally out.

My favs are the JoJo crossovers and Millie Gets Cucked. The latter doing what I thought was going to happen in the show in episode 7 given it goes to Ring of Lust.

I also made a fic, but I don't know if I want to post a link to it here.

Why is viv such a fujo? Her favoritism for angsty trainwreck gay men ruined helluva and will ruin hazbin.

I don't why you guys are acting like Stella is a big deal. If the show is going to have a main big bad it's probably Striker. He seemed way more ambitious than just a normal hitman.

It is weird the fixation on who is wrong between Stella and Stolas but they are literal demons, morality is kind of not their thing exactly. I get contracts with them, Blitzo and Verosika being breeched causing the massive problems. But their romances just seem so needly woobifying of literal monsters.

Do hellions even care about monogamy?

      The M&Ms do
Loona got disheartened when Tex mentioned his girlfriend
Stolas is cheating on Stella but only with one person.
      Millie's parents are still together.
Overall I'd say yes, but who knows for sure, we haven't seen that many married couples.

Vivzie is such an appalling hack that it feels to complimentary to even discuss her work as a legitimate piece of art instead of simply writing it off as unsalvageable junk

Whether human or not she is still hot as frick though. The b***hy in a cute way goth amazon is one of the only things I like about the show.

I don't know these characters but which one is the girl? I honestly can't tell.

I'll bet the person has an an abusive relationship and they're trying to romanticize it but it's not working because everyone watching it (who isn't in an abusive relationship) sees what would be obvious if they didn't have tunnel-vision

All of the characters in this show are fricking terrible because it's written from the perspective of tumblroids who grew up on deviantart and think Zim was actually a misunderstood softie with a golden heart who needs the right girl and not just an amusing, sociopathic clown in an idiot universe.

True words, Viv even got Invader Zim to be on her show and probably only got his character right. Moxxie is the most consistent character besides Loona since Millie does not have much character herself. Millie is not bad but is kind of the Asasmi of the group by being very competent at what the show has a focus on but does not do anything egregious like the titular main character.

I meant she is got a lot of traits that overshadow her mary sue boss but she is still better written then he has been shown. Better fighter, love life, charming, gets away with shit.

Where is there an official release of the show's ost? I want to support it but buying pins, mugs and mats does not appeal to me. How about lewd pin-ups of characters like posters or calendars.
