it would be great and there were lots of hilarious premises of skits but nearly every single one goes on way too fricking long
best episode was the move to austin
t. austinite
Bit of both, and it was basically sketch comedy but with many pairs of recurring characters and some recurring guest characters. So odds are you'll like some sketches/characters and dislike others.
I lived in portland while this was filming in my early 20s and even went out with a girl who was on the show but otherwise totally missed out on the hipster youth scene that was happening
last time I was downtown it was pretty bad. I honestly haven't been there in a while though. Just been working and home mostly. I hear they are cleaning it up somewhat
it was nice when it was on netflix and you could throw it on. not usually laugh out loud funny but amusing, often the idea for the sketch was better than the sketch. lots of good ones though.
It was good for the first half of seasons.Armisen is a legend and the extras were almost as good as the tim and eric ones. Carrie was mid. Her only jokes were yelling really loud
The packaging of this show was so good. The washed out intro. The different boroughs named and cuts of landmarks in between sketches.
Up there with The State for a totally clean product that invoked the feeling that you were part of the ingroup if you got it.
On another note I was smoking a cigarette on the streets of Chicago while walking. I passed a glass window and told my gf we had to go back. I stood outside the glass window and watched fred armison and carrie whateverthefrick share mozzarella sticks and dip them in marinara sauce. I was like "whoah, that's the dudes from the show I like and you go on your phone when I turn it on." She replied "yeah your right".
My gf pulled out her phone and went to take a photo.
Carrie looked up for her plate and stared at us between the glass. I grabbed my gf's arm and slowly lowered it down and we walked away. I would count that as one of my few celebrity encounters.
You are listening. We see you bullshiting with your coworkers near the kitchen. Why are you laughing so hard? I'm learning how to use chopsticks okay??Sus...

>you are listening
not really, no. We hear you generally but don't care what you're saying. >we see you bullshitting with your coworkers near the kitchen >why are you laughing so hard?
um, not at you? You think we give a frick about any of you? Only time we talk about patrons is when they're dicks and we aren't laughing about it.
For me it was the time I met jon stewart. >driving around town >minding my own business >see Jon Stewart >wave to him >he does the classic )--------( face >naw, frick that, pull out my phone at the next stop >take a pic >instead of smiling he just looks at me like he didn't bring this upon himself >pic related
Frickin #pwned. Dumb b***h had it coming.
Speaking of, have you guys seen his 'new' show on apple plus? Idk if the daily show hist ended badly or his new show sucks but it was weird watching that. A weird mixture of early 2000s humor and post-2015 political correctness
No, the first few seasons were really good. It is just one of those comfy comedies were you can throw on any episode you've already seen and chill out and fall asleep to it. The walkabout was their best skit.
I worked at World Foods on 9th and Everett in Portland, OR and when they were in town filming Fred would come in right before we close like once a week and get groceries. Evidently he would stay in some nice condo right across the street. Honestly he wasn't very cool and was kind of a dick but Kroll would come in sometimes too and he was super funny.
Yeah it's good. Carrie and fred have great chemistry and really unique comedic sensibilities. it's this sort of fiddly neurotic absurdity that's kind of sly and slapsticky at the same time
100%. Which is why I hate the mythos around the stand up comedian, as if they're comedic lone rangers. Everything that's good about any one person's act emerged out of a partnership, a group, or a scene. The honest ones will admit as much
Sometimes I wonder if the best "comedy" is really just huffing the secondhand fumes from a genuinely profound friendship.

I think it's great, has a number of amazing sketches and good bits of satire. There are parts of it that are almost unwatchable though, and I can't watch too many of them in a row without getting frustrated. All in all, it has a very good hit record for a sketch comedy show.
>There are parts of it that are almost unwatchable though, and I can't watch too many of them in a row without getting frustrated.
I hated those segments with the animated rats and they always seemed to last forever
The type of person filtered by Twin Peaks: The Return basedjacks for it. May as well be High Fidelity, New Girl, Letterkenny or any number of other skinsuit wearing dead husk of a show. Entirely too precious to justify the moments of amusement. You watch like you're going to a moron zoo if at all. There's nothing there that isn't done more tolerably in a Wes Anderson film. Something like Big Bang Theory at least shows its vicious cards outright.
Is it making fun of gay hipsters or is it gay hipster, or is it a bit of both like flight of the condors?
a little bit of both. Fred and Carrie are both integrated into that culture and can appreciate it. but they make good jokes about how absurd it is
yes

Portland wishes it was 80s-90s Austin so hard
Bit of both, and it was basically sketch comedy but with many pairs of recurring characters and some recurring guest characters. So odds are you'll like some sketches/characters and dislike others.
it's enjoyable
Yes. Just like the last 20 times you've made this exact same thread.
I liked it, I just keep forgetting it exists
I'm amazed they got to make it. They basically just non-stop shit on leftist lunatics, probably without even realizing it
But it never makes fun of politics on either side. It is just lighthearted ribbing at liberals, yes, but not for their politics.
All I know is that before this show was released my rent was $800/month and now it's $1400 for a smaller place. Frick Californians.
This, Portland people aren't really like that. All the hipsters are Cali transplants.
Are the californians in your room rn anon?
It was a show that people pretended was good but was actually unwatchable
How was it unwatchable? Because it didn't have family guy playing in a corner box and lil niggy rapping in a separate one?
No. it was good and funny 🙂
Lance and Nina are my favorite characters.
This is probably my favorite sketch of the entire show
i would watch it but i really don't want to think about fricking portland
I lived in portland while this was filming in my early 20s and even went out with a girl who was on the show but otherwise totally missed out on the hipster youth scene that was happening
Nothing you posted happened to you
Yes it did! It did it did it did!
I live in portland ama
Is it still full of junkies and homeless zombies
Take your politics and frick off, this is about the show not your gay politics
K seething homosexual
>DON'T DEAD NAME ME
last time I was downtown it was pretty bad. I honestly haven't been there in a while though. Just been working and home mostly. I hear they are cleaning it up somewhat
Yep it had 8 seasons that were made just for you. Fricking moron.
All the best and most memorable bits are from season 1 and 2
it was nice when it was on netflix and you could throw it on. not usually laugh out loud funny but amusing, often the idea for the sketch was better than the sketch. lots of good ones though.
I love it
Like SNL, it had its moments. Usually they were few and far between. Also like SNL.
SNL is literally the least funny thing ever produced, at least since it's early days. Comparing it to Portlandia is crazy.

And then everyone clapped.
Whats your coolest meeting a celeb story?
nta but I worked in DC and I served Michelle and Barack Obama on separate occasions.
Did they tip well? When you went to refill their water did they stop talking until you left? I do those things
>Did they tip well?
Their bill was like 15,000 and we put 18% on the bill for gratuity.
which restaurant? I work in DC as a server, never served them though.
>stop talking til you left
as a server, I can assure you were aren't listening to you, nor do we care what you're saying. Just keep talking.

His economic advisor, Jeff Zients was a regular and brought him in one night.

well, you ARE a filthy goyim
>HEY JOHN! DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN AS SUCCESSFUL IF YOU'D GONE BY YOUR israeli NAME!?
No, the first few seasons were really good. It is just one of those comfy comedies were you can throw on any episode you've already seen and chill out and fall asleep to it. The walkabout was their best skit.
Never found out who this was other than a few claims that it's Carrie's real life sister.
She's making israeliteelry now.
She's got her life on track.
Yes Chris you are

Fred is a notorious piece of shit. Was Kroll paying for funny lessons?
>it's a one-time fee that you pay annually
The best sketch they ever did
for me it's spike buying a car
The skit kinda sucked until the "i'm a homeowner!" line.
yeah I turned it off after that
Hey, it's that Indian guy before he got very obvious plastic surgery and then some israelites tried to convince everyone he was a sex symbol.
Yeah it's good. Carrie and fred have great chemistry and really unique comedic sensibilities. it's this sort of fiddly neurotic absurdity that's kind of sly and slapsticky at the same time

good set of observations here anons
its ok - same problem with every sketch comedy ever is that it's extremely hit or miss.
I thought it was pretty funny
they only had the one joke
I think it's great, has a number of amazing sketches and good bits of satire. There are parts of it that are almost unwatchable though, and I can't watch too many of them in a row without getting frustrated. All in all, it has a very good hit record for a sketch comedy show.

No I loved it. I look back on it fondly.
Beyonce is done. TayTay is beyond
I liked it
I love the Women and Women first skits so fricking much.
Nah it's still good. First few seasons hold up - the festival episode still one of the best sketch episodes ever.
>it's a carrie breaks character episode
?t=120
I want to frick the lesbian out of Carrie Brownstein
