              >Russia is far from the worst country to be invaded by
              yeah they were fantastic
              >After the victory at the Battle of Storkyro, Mikhail Golitsyn was appointed the governor of Finland. Finns began waging partisan warfare against the Russians, and as retaliation, the Finnish peasants were forced to pay large contributions to them, as was the custom at the time. Plundering and raping were widespread, especially in Ostrobothnia and in communities near the major roads. Churches were looted and Isokyrö was burned to the ground. A scorched-earth zone, several hundred kilometers wide, was created by the Russians. At least 5,000 Finns were killed and some 10,000 taken away as slaves, of whom only a few thousand would ever return.[5]:265 According to more recent research, the number of casualties would have been closer to 20,000.[6] Recent research also estimates the number of enslaved children and women to have been closer to 30,000.[7] The most severe of these massacres took place on 29 September 1714, when during one night, the Cossacks killed about 800 inhabitants of the Hailuoto Island with axes.
              >The Russian military abducted and enslaved a number of people, many of whom were trafficked via Russia and the Crimean slave trade to Persia and the Middle East, where blonde people were exotic; between 20,000 and 30,000 people are estimated to have been abducted[10] and about a quarter of the Finnish farm houses were reportedly empty at the end of the occupation.[11] Between 10,000 and 20,000 people were taken to serve as slave laborers during the building of Saint Petersburg.[5] About 2,000 men were forcibly enlisted in the Russian army,[12] but many women and children were also abducted as serfs or sex slaves by Russian officers, who in some cases sold them on to the Crimean slave trade; about 4,600 people, the majority of whom were children, were abducted from Ostrobothnia and Eastern Finland.

This looks really good on paper, but the thing is Russians rarely delivered on what they promised politically. It wasn't even always conscious malice, just that the state of their government ends up bringing misery to everyone living under it by mismanagement, corruption and stealing.

On the other hand Russia being underdeveloped meant places like Poland or Finland ended up being the most civilized lands under the tsar's rule and received further investments and development. Hell even Turkestan had a positive trade balance with Russia, the Russians didn't realize you were supposed to rob your colonies blind like the Brits did.

The meme you are responding to completely ignores the shit Ruskies tried to pull in Finland, which included, but was not limited to going back on all of their promises of autonomy, trying to root out our language from all state aparatuses and push russian in it's stread, ignoring the laws the previous tzars swore to respect and trying to force us to fight in their wars.

The "benevolent" phase of the ruskie rule lasted for half a century at most and was long gone by the late 19th century, with the ruskies actively trying to squash nationalistic sentiment here.

And the notion that swedes are somehow loved more than ruskies is bullshit, the only thing the sentiment here towards swedes is less hostile than towards russians is because the shit swedes pulled on us is so long in the past, whereas there are still people alive here that took part in the winter war and the shit ruskies pulled during the great northern war a century or so before that was utterly atrocious, inlcuding the razing of entire regions of Finland, alongside pillage and raping of our civilian population, just to make those areas unusuable for any hostile militaries.

Tl;dr Russia has been a massive fricking c**t to most of it's neighbors for most of the past 400 years, and there are people alive even in nations like Finland that didn't fall behind the iron curtain, that suffered from the shit Russia did. Hating russia and russians comes naturally to Russia's neighbors, because russia is a shitty fricking neighbor.

That's because Fennoswedes are basically the israelites of Finland. Insular, arrogant, generally wealthier and have political and financial influence & networks trough which they push for policies that benefit them, over regular Finns.
Plus their political party has roots in movements that were genuinely racially supremacist towards us regular Finns, and saw us as fricking mongloid subhumans. Even to this day in some areas of Finland the fennoswedes practice what boils down to apartheid policies, keeping their kids in their own swedish speaking schools, living in swedish speaking neighborhoods, and basically avoiding all unnecessary contact with Finns. They have a motto that goes along the lines of "bilingualism leads to monolingualism" which basically means that they don't want their kids learning Finnish out of fear that they will abandon Swedish in favor of Finnish.

In short, Fennoswedes are fricking c**ts.

Finland's Nationalist movement was literally created by swedes and fennoswedes who adopted finnish names and held nationalist meetups in Stockholm.
Meanwhile the parts taken by Russia like Karelia have are no longer inhabited by Finns at all, having sent 95% of the finnish families there to Siberia.

It should be noted that the Fennoswedes were divided on the issue language and nationalism, the modern Fennoswede party is part of that initial divide that favored swedish language and saw the fennoswedes as their own distinct "race" within Finland.

It's fricking moronic but the worst of those attitudes are limited to particularly backwards areas of Finlands. I grew up in a majority Fennoswede county Osterbothnia and the school I went to right next to a Fennoswede school and not once during the 9 years I spent there was there any fricking shared activities or co-operation between the schools. We shared a fricking buss-stop but the fennoswedes would be on the opposite side of the road to us and the most we interacted was during fights.

I grew to fricking hate them because it was evident that they hated us. Only when I moved to Helsinki did I meet more reasonable fennoswedes that were just normal and happy to talk and co-operate without any problems. WIth some of them I only realized that they were fennoswedes months after I had met them initially because they spoke such fluent Finnish.

It's not really racism for the most part. A lot of the people who choose the Fennoman movement did so for reasons of personal power, believing they as nobility would have even more say over an independent Finland, and out of what was uncharitably considered a college ideology while some of the Svecomans argued this was "insular" and cutting off ties to their established culture and all foreign european ties for an academic linguistic fancy.
More tellingly practically all of the biggest Fennoman leaders were either recently moved over swedes or fennoswedes. (e.g. Snellman and Runeberg were from captains families with their parents on the swedish side), I forget his name but one of the primary ideological leaders only learnt to speak Finnish in college.

It doesn’t matter, that’s not the point. Let’s put it a different way, Finland’s language policy is like if everyone in France had to learn Breton or Corsican, or if everyone in Spain had to learn Basque. Most old finnish writings are written in swedish mate. You can't even read finnish literature prior to the 19th century if you don't know swedish.
Even the nationalist authors who published works in finnish like the Kalevala kept their working notes on it in swedish as well as all of their academic bibliography.
There's an argument to be made against teaching spoken swedish but every finn should be able to read it and not have to interact with their own historical culture through translations.

The only thing they succeed in by refusing to teach their kids the majority language is handicapping their children, and breeding generational resentiment. It's made in Japan, but is it anime?

It's always anime when it's made by and produced by the Japanese. But in this case it's a rare instance where the Japanese dub is not the correct one (but it is still superior to most of the dubs)

Swedes are some of the most arrogant people on the planet. They are comparable with Americans in terms of arrogance and pride in their country, but with none of the achievements. I hate Swedes and the fricking Dutch.

Watch the 90s anime in a northern europe or japanese dub (not english) and the "comet" movie. That's the peak and other adaptions aren't very good

The moomintrolls were created by a communist, the characters are explicitly inspired by communists, and the comics were originally published in a communist magazine (A magazine so communist the comic was originally cancelled because moominpapa wears a top hat like some sort of bourgeois swine)

      >The moomintrolls were created by a communist, the characters are explicitly inspired by communists
      lmao no.
Tove had to be censored by the Finnish government during WW2 because she kept making mocking caricatures of the Soviets. (same as she did the nazis)
Said paper had her removed almost immediately because they found her and Moominpappa in particular to be full of bourgeoise sentiment.

Does Finland really look like that? If so, the whole country looks like something from fantasy... waitaminute

    >Finland exists, but is barely known by other countries
    >Finnish people make up less than 0.09% of all of Humanity
    >there's about 8 billion people alive right now
    >there's about 7-8 million Finnish people worldwide, 99% in Finland
    >statistically speaking, Finland, as a country, a place, as a people, probably do not exist

Moomin has aged like some damn good fine wine.

The author describing Snufkin's character alone makes a fricking cartoon character for kids from the 70's deeper than half of today's modern live action adult characters and that is just fricking hilarious to me how pathetic standards are right now.

They don't even speak regular Swedish. Tove spoke Moominsvenska and that's exactly how Sweden Swedes refer to it. You can immediately tell someone is Fennoswede.
