Too many villains made it confusing for most people. And even in the comics, his powers look silly and it turned off viewers. Only Plastic Man and Elongated Man look sillier in action. They should have gone the quirky and funny Guardians of the Galaxy route and focused on the Corps. Still much better than stuff like Dark Phoenix, the majority of Nu MCU or Dark Knight Rises.

Henshaw is a good starter antagonist, but Sinestro as the antagonist should be saved for the sequel and Parallax is the guy you get for the third movie.

Sinestro shouldn't have a heel turn until the 2nd movie and parallax shouldn't have been introduced at all in the first one. That multiple villains teaming up but is hard to pull off and mostly falls flat like in Spiderman 3, Dark Knight Rises and Batman and Robin.

It wasn't even the mutliple villains, iy was studio politics mashing up two stories that didn't go well together. I think if Raimi wanted a villain team up agaibst Spidey, it would havr worked.

Which sucks because villain team ups are often so good in the comics. It is great to see the dynamics of two or more villains working together to take down the hero.. I don't think it is just the two hour running tine of films. I think those films had many other issues in handling the source material. Plus Batman Begins had Jackstraw working for Ra's.

Green Lantern could have been WB's Star Wars. They even had the GL-equivalent of Year One to base their movie on and introduce the character to general audiences and they fumbled it so badly that I celebrate every bomb that sets them back.

      >Green Lantern could have been WB's Star Wars. They even had the GL-equivalent of Year One to base their movie on and introduce the character to general audiences and they fumbled it so badly that I celebrate every bomb that sets them back.
Yeah. They should have had a simpler intro movie with Hal fighting a low level alien threat. Maybe set up Hector Hammond or another GL villain. Have Sinestro be a bit Denzel in Training Day, but not fully evil.
Have a second movie where he fights Sinestro turned Yellow Lantern. End it with Hal being incapacitated by Parallax . Maybe even make the audience think he is dead.

The Guardians call new GLs from Earth to help.
John is an architect and engineer.
      Kyle is an artist.
      Guy Gardner is... uh... Irish.
They each bring something that will help fight Parallax in the third film.

Hal is the embodiment of Parralax, but they don't kill him off. Certainly they don't turn him into the Spectre. Ugh. Though still have some Green Lantern Rebirth stuff in it. Hal redeems himself and lives. Now end with the four Earth Green Lanterns. Feel free to have them spinoff in their own films and other DC films.

No reason this could not have been a DC Star Wars / Guardians Of The Galaxy cosmic epic trilogy.
They completely fumbled the ball in film making and marketing execution .

It was rushed, especially Sinestro's heel turn post credits. Not to mention Parralax as the big bad in only the first film.
The director was good, but over his head with modern vfx.
The studio mandate to have the costume be all cgi caused all kinds of problems.
Reynolds was typecast as a Deadpool-esque quippy hero instead of a more stoic traditional Top Gun kind of hero. Yes. I know this was before Deadpool. Even from Van Wilder and his comedic roles he was typecast.

That being said, I think it was better than othef popular DC films like Man Of Steel and Suicide Squad.
It captured Hal better than Clark and the mess they made od Suicide Swad starring Harley Quinn.

iirc a lot of comic fans hated them making parallax something that made hal go bad rather than hal snapping from all the shit that happened to him. it was a retcon by geoff johns who wanted his childhood heroes back instead of the legacy ones, he did the same with barry allen coming back to replace wally west. i think opinion on the emotional spectrum lanterns thing was fairly divisive too

            >iirc a lot of comic fans hated them making parallax something that made hal go bad rather than hal snapping from all the shit that happened to him.
I really dislike those type of comic readers because they didn't have to live with the fallout of Emerald Twilight after a decade. I didn't, but ten years is a long time and that's how long the GL comics had to suffer before Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi saved it. Emerald Twilight is a stunt comic pulled by Superman and Batman editors who didn't understand what people liked about the Green Lantern and its lore.

this, and people who compare wally to kyle are idiots
barry died saving the universe, his arc was done, and his protege followed in his footsteps to honour his memory and went through his own character development
hal went insane, killed all his friends, was replaced with a complete random whose major arc was "I'll never live up to the legacy, why does nobody respect me?"
the retcon was necessary to redeem hal

Hollywood gays, lesbians and minorities and their forced over representation in media at all levels have led to a collapse in quality since around 2010. There's nothing wrong with proper representation, but when groups that barely make up 5% to 15% of the total population ask and receive 50% of jobs depending on the project it just doesn't add up. There's other minorities that end up on the outside looking in in those situations not to mention people with talent who were pushed aside to score progressive points.

    GREEN LANTERN (2011)

    PROS
    > Decent overall cast.
    > Mark Strong as Sinestro is perfect casting & what scenes he gets are great.
    > Decent action.
    > Decent chemistry between Hal & Carol.

    CONS
    > Sinestro severely underused. No bonding or connection made between him & Hal which should be 100% required well before he takes the yellow ring.
    > Parallax looked beyond awful. How do you go from badass glowing dragon skeleton in the comics to the floating turd clouds that we got?
    > Way too much time on earth.
    > Audiences generally didn't like the CGI outfit (I was fine with it)
    > Copying the tone of Iron Man just a bit too much.
    > Weak comedy.
    > Hector Hammond was a weak cringy villain choice.
    > unmemorable score.

Sinestro Corps War is perhaps the best comic of it's genre I have ever read, just balls to the wall action pulp epic. Only Marvel's Annihilation is on par.

For the first time in my life — I felt fear. And I was blinded by its brilliance. I believed fear to be a part of the chaos I abhor, but it was more controlling than all the willpower in the universe. And it would be mine.

Imagine delivered by Strong who was top notch casting.

Blackest Night was the last great DC event. Crisis was great in the 80s and the Death of Superman was cool too even though it really wasn't a company wide event. I tuned out of comics after DCs Flashpoint and New 52 and the Marvel NOW crap. The 2000s were the last golden age of comic books before the corporate takeover of the 2010s destroyed everything in print and on the screen.

sinestro was done and set up perfectly so not him, but they had infinite potential with the source material or even an original villain
reynolds' casting isn't perfect but there was room for growth into to the traditional hal jordan character that could have been incorporated into the plot. would have been good for reynolds too since he really only played one type of role after this
and yeah like the others have said they should have put in more corps members
