It's called being a tertiary comic relief character. The fact he got a good ending and a moment to shine makes him better off than most.

you're right that initially Lonnie was just a bully (even bullied Catra). They were child soldiers, it wasn't a healthy environment. They were very minor characters, and in the end the crew liked them enough and felt bad for the kids enough to give them a story where they realized that they cared for one another and wanted nothing more to do with the Horde bullshit. For a very minor character that's a good fate. "Kyle was hated" is a very moronic take.

                Anonymous

I agree that the crew probably came to care for them in the end and wanted to send them off in a positive way.

For me is the fact that they decided to do the whole "they actually care for eachother including Kyle all along" point too late in the series and by then it soured me to that whole relationship. The rescue was a well executed sequence, but with all the bagagge aside it didn't feel earned. Their interactions prior to that episode were never positive or fair towards Kyle. He was never in on the joke. He was the scapegoat. There was no fair balance. It was not a healthy friendship in a show that had been all up about friendship.

If people want to ship it because Rogelio and Lonnie are hot, or because they liked the sendoff, that's their deal. But it's my personal bias, and I'm sticking to it.

I did like what Amphibia did with the Warhammer episode where Sasha and Grime's two grunts tell her to frick off in the end and go on their ways after she continually treated them without care. It felt fair and on point. The other main reason Kyle stuck with Lonnie and Rogelio in the end was to appease the shippers anyway.

Its always fascinating to me when you get a reboot of a series that goes so different tonally/aesthetically than the original. I don't just mean typical things like the various Batman interpretations, but ones where the original concept and designs are changed so much it barely resembles the original. I don't mean this as a negative thing as I like the newer show and can't really stand the old one. A similar case is when Rob Liefeld's Prophet got that relaunch 10 years ago. So whether you consider it good or not, I'd definitely say it has soul. Soulless to me would be something like that Nickolodeon Voltron reboot

      >the protagonists barring glimmer were boring

Glimmer is vastly improved from the original show.
Teenage Bow is pretty funny for being so reasonable if you have the original Camp Straight Errol Flynn wannabe who keeps messing up as a reference point.
      Adora/She-Ra is... blah.
Mermista and Sea Hawk are pretty entertaining.
All the villains except Hordak had improved personalities from the original. Hordak has a character arc with Entrapta and Prime while the OG was 100% episodic, but the original's dark parental love and... boisterousness were interesting to watch.

OG Glimmer may have had breasts, but she was an astoundingly flat character for appearing in 45 of 93 episodes. And dumb: if Glimmer '18 had only used her powers consistently, she'd have been better. But she also went and developed a compelling personality seasons down the road.

If we're fair, the original was VERY good for the standards of the time, and going into very different territory. He-Man was a weird hodge-podge of sci-fi, fantasy, and Conan-style Sword & Sorcery, but it had clear things to draw upon. She-Ra was trying to do a female version, and there were a lot less female heroes to draw upon in those genres. I think they did very well if you remember that they were in very new territory.

Adam recieved the Sword of Power on his 18th birthday. He's already well-established by the time HMatMotU starts. One birthday passes (The Great Books Mystery), Adora is gifted the Sword of Protection, another birthday passes (Xmas Special). The twins are 21 at the end of the Filmation run.

soul is just a Cinemaphile term that means nostalgia, used because being a nostalgiagay is a reason for mockery, but they had no argument beyond it so they called it something else. It's utterly meaningless.

      Anonymous

Soul is abstract but does have some meaning. Cinemaphile, a.k.a. blue board /b/, beating it to the ground shouldn't really take away from that.

        Anonymous

        >Soul is abstract but does have some meaning.
Yes. It means nostalgia. Everything vaguely seems to make sense for it to have meaning to those using it. But when questioned the reason it "sparks joy" while something souless doesn't, is nostalgia. "Old thing good new thing bad." It doesn't have soul? Just means there isn't something triggering happy chemicals in your brain due to positive childhood memory association.

Even with the abstract you can dissect the traits that make it what it is. This isn't abstract, it's just a one for one pretending nostalgia means something else, and then inventing new terms to describe the same happy chemicals being triggered by the same things.

even on Cinemaphile the term has already been appropriated to mean the exact opposite. posters use SOUL unironically to describe something like the Gen II Pokemon games

That's not the opposite. That's nostalgia. The gen 2 pokemon games were 23 years ago. Of course they would say those games have soul. Ignoring the joke about heart gold and soul silver.

It could've been soul but I think Noelle doesn't know how to worldbuild. She's pro with character interactions (my heart melted at picrel) but for whole seasons Etheria is just this big undeveloped void.

There's a world war going on that involves, like, 6 people tops.

The Horde has thousands of warriors but keeps sending the same 3 child soldiers to do everything important.

Shadow Weaver summons a demon that never gets bought up again.

Prime straight up vaporises a planet's resistance from orbit and its never explained why he doesn't do the same to Etheria

      Anonymous

he wanted the planetary weapon and thus had to use a lighter touch with Etheria.

I'd say your problem with shadow weaver is kind of answered by her not having access to the garnet for most of the rest of the series.

I think the world-building was a little hamstrung by the choice to try so hard to tie it into the original series, given this choice and the limited budget capping the amount of unique characters they could play with, and the choice to focus on character over world-building I'm satisfied with what we got.

      Anonymous

      >worldbuild
Maybe it was an homage to the original She-Ra. Etheria was just a random mish-mash of medieval villages, alien puff-ball trees, and magic crystal castles strewn about the landscape, and sometimes Hordak attacked.

That thing was wild! It made the spell of obtainment look like a literal deal with the devil.

I like the theory that both the demon and Prime's true "smoke" form have a connection of sorts.

The spell turns the wielder into a parasitic entity that leeches life-force and magic from the world, and Prime turned out to be a parasite jumping from clone to clone.

this used it be how CN handled things. Johnny Bravo's creator got fired because he was too lax on his crew.

                Interesting.

As far as I know, this is still norm in a lot of animation studios. Being a nuisance and going against showrunners behind their backs can get you fired or not have your contract renewed once it runs out.

How come Tartakovsky never had problems like this?

        >Showrunners could stand to learn from Rebecca Sugar
        >using a doormat who let her crew of Tumblrina shippers frick up her show for the foreseeable future as an example of a good showrunner
This is why no one takes you SUgays seriously

Stevenson did have a plan from the beginning.
Then she was told she couldn't make Wonder gay for Hater and tried to make it a She-ra story.
She also was very picky about who she was working with and was said to have kicked people off the team, some say it was because she didn't want any men on the team others say it was because they were trying to make a She-ra reboot and were ignoring her script.
I not sure but I don't think she told most of her staff about her script from Wonder.

I thought Noelle's WOY self-insert was Lord Dominator.

            >Lord Dominator
I don't see the mommy issues or shitty girlfriend.
unless she was supposed to hook up with Sylvia.
Hater makes more sense especially after she transitioned

According to the wiki. Noelle confirmed during a charity stream that Lord Dominator was "intentionally written as lesbian". I didn't get that impression from her to be honest. I thought she was only attracted to destroying worlds.

But she is also a destructive woman with a male title and masquerades as a big muscular overlord with a deep voice to trick others. It fits the kind of edgy characters Noelle is into.
