I think it was implied that the kind was either mutilated or snuffed for some ritual. Since even Rust was troubled by it it must have been very violent.

Nope. But Marty and Rust forced some corrupt cop to watch the same video tape and he also did the dramatic scream

I grew up in Belarus, my schoolmates used to share gore and public freakouts video all the time. I remember that video where a guy was peeling his wiener with a carrot peeler and also a video where a woman stuck a sharp heel up a guy's urethra. To me it was fricked up but still kinda fascinating

That's not a good thing. It's not a good thing to be desensitized and mentally ill. I do my best to avoid shit like this as much as I can these days, and my mental health is massively improved. I used to be addicted to gore sites for years as a kid/teen, and always want to see more and more fricked up shit for that rush. I wish I had never seen any of it, I'd be vastly better off.

he watched a recording of a girl who's kidnapping investigation he botched be ritualistically sacrificed in a manner that involved gang-rape.

the other guy's reaction was more intense because he actively covered up the kidnapping.

Thanks to the internet there is literally nothing you could show me outside of my loved ones being killed that could ever get me to react like this.

I think this is the reason they shot the scene the way they did. Anything they could have shown wouldn't have been extreme enough so it's better to leave it to your imagination.

I can't even imagine anything that warrants that reaction though.

Right, we all get that, but nobody, especially a policeman, would ever react in this way, so it undercuts the moment.

There is a bit of gore that surprises me. People often mention that the video is the bad guy and not what happens in the video itself. It's like their brains are programmed to cope and ignore the fricked up things.

I liked Marty in the beginning but god he is such a fricking tool like 70% of the time. Is that done on purpose?

      Anonymous

yes, marty is a hypocrite who deals with his issue of having no power over his life by looking away and just hanging onto being le popular guy at work and pretending to be a family man, which makes him not take the work seriously because hes in denial

It was so goofy everyone watching it does the same looney toons scream, I don't see how any gore video could get a worse reaction to a baby in a microwave once you've seen any gore for a long enough time you can be okay with pretty much anything.

When I was learning to use a lathe someone showed me a liveleak video of a little chinese character getting caught in an industrial lathe, at first he just gets crushed which was brutal but manageable but then the lathe starts moving again and his body gets turned into ground beef and chunks go flying. I had a visceral response to that, my reaction was to just yell STOP! STOP! at the screen. So I'd say it's accurate.

For me gore doesn't really elict any strong responses, sure it's gross but not in the visceral "get it the frick out of my sight" way. However, truly gross shit like rotting flesh, troony surgeries, maggots and other such filthy things still make me gag

Why does one become desensitized to gore?

Repeated exposure and detachment from reality and people.

      Anonymous

Because it's not really that bad. Every doctor sees it all the time.
Also the police round my way, when you join, they take you to see an autopsy so you get used to dead bodies. Apparently everybody was cracking jokes and peering into the empty cavity when they took the brain out. So between that and all the murders (and suicides) (and suspicious deaths) that Marty would have seen, the idea that he'd react in this way is ridiculous.

I had the opposite experience, a sa kid/early teen I could watch anything with little to no reaction and now all sorts of shit will get me fricked up and sad.

You get older and you realise there's no prize for being hardcore for being able to watch those videos, or horror movies, or "dark and gritty", it's all just ugly and depressing and sad.

I think it would've been better if he raged out because he knows he fricked up the investigation and let them get away with it. The writing takes a nose dive in the final 2 episodes (boat guy scream, green paint, badass sniper old guy, rust taking the knife out and surviving)

All of the best and brightest people here concluded that s1 was 10/10 and it had been that way for years. Funny how after Night Country we have these posts claiming s1 has these huge flaws. Especially since HBO is confirmed to have a paid team of troony shills astroturfing Cinemaphile.

All the night country shills here will tell you night country is shit. They know they can't get away with praising it on Cinemaphile without being outed immediately. Their tactics are to denigrate season 1. The rise in season 2 praise is also more troony shills activity. Why praise s2? To erase season 1.
