The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is genuine kino and you owe it to yourself to watch it, one of the best films of the last 20 years, easy.
it's very good, watched it twice now.
it's particularly interesting for people that know little about Marilyn or care little about her.

To me it felt like I was watching someone's life flash before their eyes seconds before her death. The last few seconds of brain activity stretching out as a dreamlike state, recollecting all the essential moments that marked her life.
I felt that too. it's obvious he was going for that and that he achieved it, brilliantly. people criticizing length of the movie or other technical aspects are out of order. if that's what it takes to achieve that effect, why does it matter it's a long movie?
Just a recent trend with tiktok and youtube shorts or facebook reel. I was talking to some (younger) colleagues a couple of months ago and most of them thought any movie longer than 1h30 was too long. Even for tv shows they preferred episodes of no longer than 30 minutes
Some of it was good like the schizo parts but most of it was just unpleasant inaccurate depictions of her life. Hated the gay stuff and found most of it straight boring but occasionally the direction was prime like when she falls on the beach
It was mesmerizing the whole way through, which is not easy to do considering how long and chaotic it is. The music was beautiful too.
The only thing I didn't like were the cgi fetus scenes.
i am watching it in 2 parts: last nite i watched until she got preggo, went to tell her 2 guys and they drove to see her giant billboard then found a random toy for their kid. AND THEY LIVED HAPPY EVER AFTER. i think i may not watch the second half. just to have good vibes when i think of her, haha.
I watched up to the part where she tells those two homos she is pregnant. I have no idea wtf is going on with this film. It's black and white for some scenes, color in others. I'm trying to understand why. Also the music is weird. Go to the scene where she is in the car with her mom near the beginning, the music abruptly stops and then continues. It makes no sense.
The movie's tone and whole shtick of deconstructing the image of Monroe doesn't really work when apparently a large portion of the shit that happens in the movie never even happened, she apparently didn't really have a problem with fricking dudes to climb the ladder but was a lonely and wanted children
women tell you many things they "don't have a problem with", but we see it today, we see women completely riding the CC and becoming completely burnt out.
Okay forget the incel shit then, it's still a really nice criticism of worshipping celebrities without knowing who they are, and how Hollywood completely messes up tons of young actors and actresses
Great direction and cinematography, but i dont completely get what they were trying to say
I love the shot of marilyn looking at the camera and saying 'why do you care about my life?', it sums up the whole movie, maybe it's a deliberately attempt to make the audience suffer for wanting to see the 'dark side' of a hollywood celebrity
it's a masterpiece that is getting absolutely dragged in the press and online discourse by butthurt roasties and philistine plebs that expected a sanitized feminist 2022 girl boss bio pic and got a slap in the face downward spiral deconstruction subjective and surreal nightmare from womb to tomb of a suicidial woman who was a larger than life American mythical goddess. it's bloody brilliant and it's going to take years to be appreciated for the work of art it is but will always be polarizing like Lars Von Trier. allegations of misogyny or merely reveling in exploitive trauma porn or that artist are owe an obligatory respect for the dead or that this is anti-abortion propaganda are boneheaded brainlet takes from seething basic b***hes and progressives
>“The film is concerned with the meaning of Marilyn Monroe I guess a bit more than the documented reality, but I think what the film is really about is, I think everything to do with Marilyn Monroe is kind of a rescue fantasy,”
>...They’re just trying to rescue her from me. But I think that when you have the desire to rescue somebody, probably the person they most need rescuing from is you (laughs).”
>I think it’s very difficult for people to step outside of the stories they carry inside themselves and see things of their own volition. And I think that’s really what the movie is about. The dangers of that. But you know, it’s difficult for people to be able to hold two things in their mind at once. It’s either black or white.”
>“I actually see that as a measure of the film’s success, that it inspires that kind of reaction,” Dominik said. “I also think that’s how the film functions. I think the primary relationship is between you the viewer and her the character, and nobody else in the story understands why she does what she does, but we understand it all. And so you’re sort of sitting there helplessly as she is a lonely person trying to negotiate this world that is just not interested in the reality of how she feels. And just have to watch as she’s unable to conquer her own demons, and that’s the whole idea of the movie. People feel very protective of her, and I think that’s part of the problem. I think that’s part of the reason why she’s dead.”
It's hollywood degeneracy. They promote complete sexual liberation, and it destroys people, it destroyed Norma. It's a huge criticism of seeking hedonistic pleasures
How the hell did this film filter so many people? three of my friends said they wanted Marilyn's "Happy Birthday Cake" to be a scene. I don't think they understood the film at all.
it's as if the film was making fun of them to their faces and it went over their heads.
debuting on the front page of Netflix was a disaster waiting to happen. The film has the catastrophic mixture of being too transgressive and nuanced to piss off the politically minded and too cinematic to entertain the plebs so it ended up a hyper toxic work exposing how media illiterate most people are (as if we needed a reminder)
Same thing happened with Cuties. Some movies are not meant for mass audiences (i.e. Americans), and Netflix gives them exposure they simply wouldn't have had before streaming.
no. She talks to her fetus and it talks back like a lame anti-abortion christian pamphlet. Which is funny because i dont think the film is really trying to be anti-abortion since the fetus says "everytime you try to have me, its always me!" Oh also Ana De Armas was directed to give a pretend BJ like an OnlyFans video, but instead of it being tragic like "Ass to Ass" its comical and corny as frick. The director is a hack and it can be argued this was YET ANOTHER fetish fuel film they talked ana into being in.
yeah, it makes her rise to fame really confusing when she has to be forced into everything. why are these studio rapists forcing her into being a star whn there's ton of prime and willing pussy to chose from? no wonder her actual rise to fame is done off screen. because it doesn't make any fricking sense.
Why do you think random chicks are famous? Like Kim Kardashian or even Billie Ellish? They appear out of nowhere and suddenly become huge celebrities. I or random rappers ? It's all celebrity worship BS
yes, but they actually pursue it and play along with their handlers to build a cult of personality. marilyin in this movie keeps whaining and acting like she doesn't even want it. marilyin irl wanted it and slept with anyone she had to in order to get it. this "she was actually raped " bullshit is the same kind of shit they pulled with weynstein. they fricked him because they wanted to further their career. they could have just walked away.
In the movie she did want the attention and fame in the beginning. She even tells her mother she can make money taking pictures. The downward spiral wasn't something she anticipated but got caught up in. Like many younger actresses getting Harvied
Thinks it has more to say than it actually does, but still very emotionally powerful, great performance and score and I’m all for directors taking wild swings and torching their credibility along with a pile of Netflix cash
>The idea that movies have to be faithful to real events/source material is the worst thing to ever happen to film criticism
THEN WHY EVEN FRICKNG ADAPT IT, YOU MORON?! WHY DID THIS HAVE TO BE THE MARILYN MOROE STORY? MAKE IT ABOUT SOME MADE UP HOLLYWOOD ACTRESS THAT'S SUPPOSED TO MIRROR MARILYIN MONROE! THEN YOU CAN DO WHATEVER THE FRICK YOU WANT, YOU STUPID PIECE OF SHIT, AGHHHHHHH!
That's kind of the point. Marilyn Monroe is already a made up Hollywood actress. That's why Ana de Armas was in the Marilyn Monroe persona for the entire film (even in her personal life) which is not how Norma Jeane actually was in real life.
spare me the pretentious mental gymnastics. the stuff showed in this film didn't reflect the real person's life accurately. it outright slandered a lot of others. you can't justify that, no mater how hard you try.

so what if they came out and said it? doesn't make it any less distasteful. there's literally a scene where she gets raped by JFK and then taken by glowies to a forced abortion. you can't just show that and say "it's fiction, what's the problem". these are real people's reputations you're fricking with. this place would go absolutely bersek if someone made a film about trump beating melania and raping that pornstar.

ive seen Blonde and loved it. i didnt find it distasteful or find it harmful to either's reputation. marilyn was a bawd and jfk a womanizer and im sure he took liberties with women like his brother ted. sure its fictional, but it showed what norma needed to do to be marylin. >this place would go absolutely bersek if someone made a film about trump beating melania and raping that pornstar.

You donot become a sex symbol by not having sex!
It wasn’t rape. Marylin went to have a sexual encounter with JFK. He just didn’t want to have any foreplay so they got straight to it.
Slander requires the speaker to know that he or she is lying but not reveal that to the audience. The disclaimer made perfectly clear that Blonde was fictional and since it was revealed, there is no deceit.
it's impossible to be 100% accurate, you moron, so it's better not to make a movie?
the film Amadeus shouldn't have been made?
fricking moron.
it was said before it was released, IT IS NOT A BIOPIC, Black person.
Haven’t watched it yet but I’ve decided I’m going to like it because a lot of people are seething over it from all sides, and I choose to like things purely based on how superior it will make me feel over others. Also I did like the director’s other films, Killing Them Softly and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, so it’s probably going to be interesting at the very least.
I think in a better political climate the movie would be considered a modern classic, but because of >muh abortion laws >muh treatment of women
We have to suffer through the endless midwit """""criticisms."""""
Middle aged lady at the kinoplex said she was obsessed with everything Marilyn. She was discouraged from seeing Blonde by her friends, but ignored their advice. I for sure thought she was gonna leave halfway shocked and appalled. She was actually the last one to leave (I stayed because the score is sick). Thought it was pretty sweet that this karen type witnessed kino and didn't get filtered. That or she fell asleep.
it's a movie about mental illness and celebrity gaze, but it's not meant to be seen by plebs or people that can't withhold judgement without giving it some thought. it has nothing to do with politics, abortion or any of that stuff.
To all those that said Marilyn was a bawd that slept for roles. Wasn't that the point of the movie? We have all these crazy stories about her we don't even know if it's fabricated or not. Because there's tons of first hand accounts of her being completely normal and not one. She did marry DiMaggio who's a known mafia member. He wouldn't let her sleep around or let anyone do it either.
>portrays her being raised without a father figure as a negative >first shots of Hollywood are it in flames (hell) >Makes Hollywood producers look bad, they don’t care about making good movies they are just sexual debaucherers >portrays abortion as a hellish psychotic break inducing experience >basically insinuates Marilyn would’ve been better off had she no fame at all and simply married and had a family >had a scene where she stops interacting with other characters, stares directly into the camera and asks, “Why do you care about my life?”
I’m sensing based qualities personally, still deciding tho
i agree with the anon you quoted, I enjoyed the film.
However I didn't have much problem with the homosexuals, and even then, afterwards it's shown cassie was an butthole and retroactively fricked her emotionally after he died
>it's shown cassie was an butthole and retroactively fricked her emotionally after he died
true, also even while having sex he says something like "don't be good to us, we will frick you up". and when she opens the box and holds the teddy she says "I know you didn't want that baby".
still why show that much degen sex with them?
>still why show that much degen sex with them?
because gay people are extremely degenerate and statistically shown to have a MUCH higher number of partners, and also to cheat much more often on their partners, than straight people
it's similar to joker in that it's a downward spiral of the character, shown basically as a character study, however, it's more tragical than joker because in that one the character finds liberation in his fall, whereas in blonde she slowly decays mentally and physically until she dies alone.
there are some scenes that could be put into the traditional horror genre but overall it's just a tragic film.
Haven’t seen it but all the negative the reviews are making me excited and I’m thinking I’m gonna watch it tonight >“I had the extreme misfortune of watching ‘Blonde’ on Netflix last night and let me tell you the movie is so anti-abortion, so sexist, so exploitative,” said abortion researcher Steph Harold at the University of California, San Francisco. , “Can’t recommend it less. Don’t look. The abortion scenes in particular are terrifying, but so is the whole movie.”
I already saw the webms. Why would I watch the movie?
>Anybody seen this?
No.
>Any thoughts?
No, this is Cinemaphile.

It's a solid movie that would be a lot better if it was 30 minutes shorter.
extremely up its own ass
trying to imply that monroe didnt sleep her way up the ladder of the elite by choice and was some tragic intellectual figure when the b***h didnt even finish high school
Lots of people didn't graduate back in those day
that essentially the Norman Mailer tell-all biography that came out 40 years ago. Was this based on that?
yup. and the feminists it was trying to appease still shit on it because she's portrayed as remorseful about her abortion(s), lmao
This guy arguing you need to finish high school to know how to read books
Rape scenes are shit 0/10 irreversible still holds the title
Adding that to my list, thanks anon
another movie about failed women logic followed by regret, but spun in a way where she's a tragic hero the whole way through.
>Takes dick to beat out a thousand equally beautiful women to become Hollywood's A-#1 starlet during the 50s/60s...
....then acts like a victim.
...okay, yay dumb c**t. Turn back the clock, don't take the dick, keep your pride, so the rest of us can say "Monroe who?"

OP here. About an hour in. Performance is great, cinematography, direction. Story is a little unfocused.
It's a good movie with a solid cinematography, comparable to Fire Walk With Me. Also makes poltards and twitter morons from all sides seethe
Its funny how the dreamy surrealism is great. I know it's not accurate to life but I don't really care
To me it felt like I was watching someone's life flash before their eyes seconds before her death. The last few seconds of brain activity stretching out as a dreamlike state, recollecting all the essential moments that marked her life.

The only thing I didn't like were the cgi fetus scenes.
I liked it. More for technical reasons than anything but the seethe is hilarious
The stupid eye twitching "I'm acting" and shakycam effect during the bj scene made me not want to watch. Looks annoying.
It's actually kino. They treat MM like the prostitute she is
Not as good as the original film version.
CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SON
i am watching it in 2 parts: last nite i watched until she got preggo, went to tell her 2 guys and they drove to see her giant billboard then found a random toy for their kid. AND THEY LIVED HAPPY EVER AFTER. i think i may not watch the second half. just to have good vibes when i think of her, haha.
her nipples look very dark in black and white
It overused black and white and the movie looked worse because of it.

Kino of the tear for sure a bit too long 3rd act

At most she fricked him at least once.

the breasts were sad though. there's so much black and white to hide the cuban brown areolas
some pertinent quotes from Dominik
>“The film is concerned with the meaning of Marilyn Monroe I guess a bit more than the documented reality, but I think what the film is really about is, I think everything to do with Marilyn Monroe is kind of a rescue fantasy,”
>...They’re just trying to rescue her from me. But I think that when you have the desire to rescue somebody, probably the person they most need rescuing from is you (laughs).”

he speaks bluntly, I like it.
you shouldnt call em progressives, they have nothing to do with class struggle: they are neolib moralists.
believe me I know but nobody on Cinemaphile has ever cared about that nuance and 'blue-hair SJW' is just so 2016 boomer it detracts from my point
Any scenes featuring Monroe getting blacked?
I don't think there's a single afro in the whole film.
Unironically sexist.
can someone explain what the frick the gaysex threesome was for? I really don't get it. is it about only gays being able to make women squirt?
This is filtering EVERYONE
It's hollywood degeneracy. They promote complete sexual liberation, and it destroys people, it destroyed Norma. It's a huge criticism of seeking hedonistic pleasures
What if she was THICCer?
Thic waifu material
I want to eat her vegan braps so badly
Lots of cool looking scene. Ana De Armas is topless and says daddy I love you towards a screen a lot.
i wanted to like it but it is VERY up its own ass. Dominick is a hack who should not be allowed near any movie ever again. Good acting tho.
Also Cinemaphile will be contrarians and now fall in love with it for "Muh Culture War" reasons. Very stupid.
It really sucks because i dont think there has EVER been a good NC-17rated movie ever, and it looks like there never will.
>NOOOOOOOOOO JFK WAS A GOOD BOI WHO DINDU NUFFIN
Oh shit, bros. It turns out she wasn't a BBW at all!? All those fricking ice cream bars I hate were for nothing.

I gave it an hour and it was total dogshit. Did I miss out on anything?
breasts.
Hers or others? She got her breasts out like twice in that hour
no. She talks to her fetus and it talks back like a lame anti-abortion christian pamphlet. Oh also Ana De Armas was directed to give a pretend BJ like an OnlyFans video, but instead of it being tragic like "Ass to Ass" its comical and corny as frick. Also I did like the director’s other films, Killing Them Softly and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, so it’s probably going to be interesting at the very least.
Monroe is an American story, just like Colt firearms and Harley Davidson.
They all suck until they don’t.
The rotten tomatoes reviews are hilarious.
Just finished. It’s tremendous.
I think in a better political climate the movie would be considered a modern classic, but because of
>muh abortion laws
>muh treatment of women
We have to suffer through the endless midwit """""criticisms."""""
Middle aged lady at the kinoplex said she was obsessed with everything Marilyn. She was discouraged from seeing Blonde by her friends, but ignored their advice. I for sure thought she was gonna leave halfway shocked and appalled. She was actually the last one to leave (I stayed because the score is sick). Thought it was pretty sweet that this karen type witnessed kino and didn't get filtered. That or she fell asleep.
I'm dumb but where did the she get the scar from?
you're not dumb anon
I think it's a typical appendix scar. But knowing this movie she probably had a forced hysterectomy or something.
when she fell on the beach
>Her mole is on the wrong side
Intentional or huge frick up?
it's a mirror moron
Either you commit to the White-Knight posting or you don't... she's not going to frick you this way, Jay; no one likes a fence sitting homosexual.
>she's not going to frick you this way, Jay; no one likes a fence sitting homosexual.
yes, he should go into full on id pol outrage mode like the geniuses you find on /misc/ and twitter. kys, brainrotted homosexual.
This guy will be on a lot of hit lists once civilization goes down.
It's not even a biopic you fricking moron jay
Boring AF
I never knew Marilyn Monroe had such a noticeable Cuban accent! Amazing!
Diamonds are la chica's best frrriend, senor!!!
the way she kept saying "magda" was cracking me up
don't like the character so not going to see it but is it outrage marketing (or whatever its called) aimed at women?
no. it was supposed to be a #metoo movie. like:
said.
it's a movie about mental illness and celebrity gaze, but it's not meant to be seen by plebs or people that can't withhold judgement without giving it some thought. it has nothing to do with politics, abortion or any of that stuff.
He wouldn't let her sleep around or let anyone do it either.
>portrays her being raised without a father figure as a negative
>first shots of Hollywood are it in flames (hell)
>Makes Hollywood producers look bad, they don’t care about making good movies they are just sexual debaucherers
>portrays abortion as a hellish psychotic break inducing experience
>basically insinuates Marilyn would’ve been better off had she no fame at all and simply married and had a family
>had a scene where she stops interacting with other characters, stares directly into the camera and asks, “Why do you care about my life?”
I’m sensing based qualities personally, still deciding tho
literally same
the only thing I didn't like was the "gay guys making women squirt and happy"
i agree with the anon you quoted, I enjoyed the film.
However I didn't have much problem with the homosexuals, and even then, afterwards it's shown cassie was an butthole and retroactively fricked her emotionally after he died
>it's shown cassie was an butthole and retroactively fricked her emotionally after he died
true, also even while having sex he says something like "don't be good to us, we will frick you up". and when she opens the box and holds the teddy she says "I know you didn't want that baby".
still why show that much degen sex with them?
>still why show that much degen sex with them?
because gay people are extremely degenerate and statistically shown to have a MUCH higher number of partners, and also to cheat much more often on their partners, than straight people
>gay guys
>bisexuals don't exist
troony spotted.
>Movie ends on a minute long shot of her feet
Does it actually? After anons talking about talking fetuses and the camera going up her vegana I feel like you people are pulling my leg
>fetuses and the camera going up her vegana
there are two 2-seconds shots abortions from the vegana POV but it's nothing really shocking
Is this a horror film or something because the the reactions I’ve seen make me think so
it's similar to joker in that it's a downward spiral of the character, shown basically as a character study, however, it's more tragical than joker because in that one the character finds liberation in his fall, whereas in blonde she slowly decays mentally and physically until she dies alone.
there are some scenes that could be put into the traditional horror genre but overall it's just a tragic film.
>"up its own ass"
>"pretentious"
I miss being 18 but then again that would mean being genZ so no thanks.
Haven’t seen it but all the negative the reviews are making me excited and I’m thinking I’m gonna watch it tonight
>“I had the extreme misfortune of watching ‘Blonde’ on Netflix last night and let me tell you the movie is so anti-abortion, so sexist, so exploitative,” said abortion researcher Steph Harold at the University of California, San Francisco. , “Can’t recommend it less. Don’t look. The abortion scenes in particular are terrifying, but so is the whole movie.”
