another movie about failed women logic followed by regret, but spun in a way where she's a tragic hero the whole way through.

    >Takes dick to beat out a thousand equally beautiful women to become Hollywood's A-#1 starlet during the 50s/60s...
    ....then acts like a victim.

I felt that too. it's obvious he was going for that and that he achieved it, brilliantly. people criticizing length of the movie or other technical aspects are out of order. if that's what it takes to achieve that effect, why does it matter it's a long movie?

Just a recent trend with tiktok and youtube shorts or facebook reel. I was talking to some (younger) colleagues a couple of months ago and most of them thought any movie longer than 1h30 was too long. Even for tv shows they preferred episodes of no longer than 30 minutes

      some pertinent quotes from Dominik

      >“The film is concerned with the meaning of Marilyn Monroe I guess a bit more than the documented reality, but I think what the film is really about is, I think everything to do with Marilyn Monroe is kind of a rescue fantasy,”

      >...They’re just trying to rescue her from me. But I think that when you have the desire to rescue somebody, probably the person they most need rescuing from is you (laughs).”

      >I think it’s very difficult for people to step outside of the stories they carry inside themselves and see things of their own volition. And I think that’s really what the movie is about. The dangers of that. But you know, it’s difficult for people to be able to hold two things in their mind at once. It’s either black or white.”

      >“I actually see that as a measure of the film’s success, that it inspires that kind of reaction,” Dominik said. “I also think that’s how the film functions. I think the primary relationship is between you the viewer and her the character, and nobody else in the story understands why she does what she does, but we understand it all. And so you’re sort of sitting there helplessly as she is a lonely person trying to negotiate this world that is just not interested in the reality of how she feels. And just have to watch as she’s unable to conquer her own demons, and that’s the whole idea of the movie. People feel very protective of her, and I think that’s part of the problem. I think that’s part of the reason why she’s dead.”

debuting on the front page of Netflix was a disaster waiting to happen. The film has the catastrophic mixture of being too transgressive and nuanced to piss off the politically minded and too cinematic to entertain the plebs so it ended up a hyper toxic work exposing how media illiterate most people are (as if we needed a reminder)

no. She talks to her fetus and it talks back like a lame anti-abortion christian pamphlet. Which is funny because i dont think the film is really trying to be anti-abortion since the fetus says "everytime you try to have me, its always me!" Oh also Ana De Armas was directed to give a pretend BJ like an OnlyFans video, but instead of it being tragic like "Ass to Ass" its comical and corny as frick. yes, but they actually pursue it and play along with their handlers to build a cult of personality. marilyin in this movie keeps whaining and acting like she doesn't even want it. marilyin irl wanted it and slept with anyone she had to in order to get it. this "she was actually raped " bullshit is the same kind of shit they pulled with weynstein. they fricked him because they wanted to further their career. they could have just walked away.

That's kind of the point. Marilyn Monroe is already a made up Hollywood actress. That's why Ana de Armas was in the Marilyn Monroe persona for the entire film (even in her personal life) which is not how Norma Jeane actually was in real life.

so what if they came out and said it? doesn't make it any less distasteful. there's literally a scene where she gets raped by JFK and then taken by glowies to a forced abortion. you can't just show that and say "it's fiction, what's the problem". these are real people's reputations you're fricking with. this place would go absolutely bersek if someone made a film about trump beating melania and raping that pornstar.

ive seen Blonde and loved it. i didnt find it distasteful or find it harmful to either's reputation. marilyn was a bawd and jfk a womanizer and im sure he took liberties with women like his brother ted. sure its fictional, but it showed what norma needed to do to be marylin.
                >this place would go absolutely bersek if someone made a film about trump beating melania and raping that pornstar.
thats because everyone would know that the director/writer hates trump, not because the director is trying to make art.

You donot become a sex symbol by not having sex!
It wasn’t rape. Marylin went to have a sexual encounter with JFK. He just didn’t want to have any foreplay so they got straight to it.
Slander requires the speaker to know that he or she is lying but not reveal that to the audience. The disclaimer made perfectly clear that Blonde was fictional and since it was revealed, there is no deceit.

I think it's a typical appendix scar. But knowing this movie she probably had a forced hysterectomy or something.

no. it was supposed to be a #metoo movie. like:

yup. and the feminists it was trying to appease still shit on it because she's portrayed as remorseful about her abortion(s), lmao

      said.

it's a movie about mental illness and celebrity gaze, but it's not meant to be seen by plebs or people that can't withhold judgement without giving it some thought. it has nothing to do with politics, abortion or any of that stuff.

To all those that said Marilyn was a bawd that slept for roles. Wasn't that the point of the movie? We have all these crazy stories about her we don't even know if it's fabricated or not. Because there's tons of first hand accounts of her being completely normal and not one. She did marry DiMaggio who's a known mafia member. He wouldn't let her sleep around or let anyone do it either.

    >portrays her being raised without a father figure as a negative
    >first shots of Hollywood are it in flames (hell)
    >Makes Hollywood producers look bad, they don’t care about making good movies they are just sexual debaucherers
    >portrays abortion as a hellish psychotic break inducing experience
    >basically insinuates Marilyn would’ve been better off had she no fame at all and simply married and had a family
    >had a scene where she stops interacting with other characters, stares directly into the camera and asks, “Why do you care about my life?”
I’m sensing based qualities personally, still deciding tho

i agree with the anon you quoted, I enjoyed the film.
However I didn't have much problem with the homosexuals, and even then, afterwards it's shown cassie was an butthole and retroactively fricked her emotionally after he died

          >it's shown cassie was an butthole and retroactively fricked her emotionally after he died
true, also even while having sex he says something like "don't be good to us, we will frick you up". and when she opens the box and holds the teddy she says "I know you didn't want that baby".
still why show that much degen sex with them?

            >still why show that much degen sex with them?
because gay people are extremely degenerate and statistically shown to have a MUCH higher number of partners, and also to cheat much more often on their partners, than straight people

there are two 2-seconds shots abortions from the vegana POV but it's nothing really shocking

Is this a horror film or something because the the reactions I’ve seen make me think so

it's similar to joker in that it's a downward spiral of the character, shown basically as a character study, however, it's more tragical than joker because in that one the character finds liberation in his fall, whereas in blonde she slowly decays mentally and physically until she dies alone.
there are some scenes that could be put into the traditional horror genre but overall it's just a tragic film.

Haven’t seen it but all the negative the reviews are making me excited and I’m thinking I’m gonna watch it tonight
    >“I had the extreme misfortune of watching ‘Blonde’ on Netflix last night and let me tell you the movie is so anti-abortion, so sexist, so exploitative,” said abortion researcher Steph Harold at the University of California, San Francisco. , “Can’t recommend it less. Don’t look. The abortion scenes in particular are terrifying, but so is the whole movie.”
