kek. But if I wasn't already aware of that movie I would have assumed the same thing.

When I first watched this I thought the exact thing. Osterman is never said in the movie before that scene so how the frick would anyone know besides the people who read the graphic novel?

Its just bad writing. Manhattan considers himself as something entirely different from his normie life but calling himself "Osterman" out of nowhere is bad writing in this movie

"It didn't kill me before...did you really think it would kill me now?" Would be much more easy to understand for the general audience

        >Manhattan considers himself as something entirely different from his normie life but calling himself "Osterman" out of nowhere is bad writing in this movie
That’s exactly why he phrased it that way. He refers to “Osterman” as if he’s a different person entirely.

But how the frick is any casual movie watcher going to know that?

What do you mean? It's obvious even to a distracted observer the detached blue guy is the watchmaker. It's also obvious the blue guy and the watchmaker are the only 2 characters connected via the science experiment. I saw the movie as a literal child decades ago, and I picked up on it. Women just don't like or care about movies, they watch them out of obligation to their boyfriends/husbands.

No, Mikhail is the Watchmaker. I guess he is kind of a blue guy too though.

But if he isn't Osterman then he ceased to exist the moment he was born. Meaning it functionally, practically and metaphorically killed Osterman.
A better line would be. "This was how I was born, how could you think this could kill me."

But how the frick is any casual movie watcher going to know that?

What's really weird is Snyder wasn't above simplifying plot points from the graphic novel to make it easier for the casual viewer to understand, for example cutting out the alien squid plotline entirely. But for some reason he insisted on adapting this line verbatim.

That's either the directors cut or leaked script. Not in the theatrical cut

why does it matter if its not in the theatrical cut? at this point more people read the script than watch the theatrical cut.
graphic novel >> directors cut > script >>>>>> theatrical cut

So almost 20 years ago. Sure. But as soon as a directors cut is released that is the correct version to watch

                >I want to watch the 4,5 hours version
I find out recently normies dont like to watch movies that last more than 1,5/2 hours (with some exceptions that confirm the rule)

Even on Cinemaphile I see a lot of people who express the same opinion. Meanwhile if I watch a movie that's less than 2.5 hours I always feel like it's over too fast. Most of my favorite movies are really long.

People unironically watch the movie 1st? If a movie is announced and its an adaption I always read the book so by the time the movie is out I've read the book and fully comprehended it by relistening to compelling sections in audiobook format too so I can see how other people say the lines

Skim-reading is literally a science. Once you learn how to actually skim-read you'll blow thru books really fast.

Now that I'm older the truth is that Watchmen is just a solid comic book with memorable characters but nothing more. Snyder did what he could with the source material and the movie is probably the best live action Watchmen we are ever going to get

I’d agree and tack on the fact that the “birth of dr Manhattan” sequence is what elevates it to kino status,

Holy based, no wonder Cinemaphile started pretending Alan Moore isn't anything special anymore. Well, thanks for buying Watchmen, chums. Your money went to a good place.
