Less. On average, studios take anywhere from 43% to 47% of worldwide box office, so Furiosa will make between $72 mil at the low end to $78 mil at the high end, meaning it lost HUGE at the box office. Also on average, films cost 2.5 times the reported production budget to bring to theaters due to additional expenses. This means that a film with a reported production budget of $100 mil will cost $250 total to get to theaters. Since Furiosa is reported to have a $168 mil production budget, then that will put them at around $420 mil in total costs. Subtract the tax credits Australia provided, which are reported to be in the $100 mil Aus dollar range ($66 mil U.S.), and the film cost totals around $354 million. This means they need to find a way to earn $282 to $288 million somewhere just to cover their costs.
It has the same Cinemascore B+ rating as Fury Road, and an 89% RT audience score.
It theoretically could have had positive word of mouth. Problem is not enough people saw it in the first place, on opening weekend. It was a terrible idea to release a Furiosa movie 9 years later when audiences mostly forgot who Furiosa is
>the studio knows won't make money
They didn't know it wouldn't make money. They probably thought including "A Mad Max Saga" in the title would bring in everyone who liked Fury Road. Clearly they miscalculated and were wrong
>Nobody cares about Furiosa
And yet those who watched it generally enjoyed it a lot, guess people do care, nobody was going to ANY movies around here, cinema's are struggling in general.
Fantastic news! So every additional dollar made is a dollar of profit now?
Chuds will argue that this isn't good enough even though it's literally generating free money now
I always use Mummy for box office estimations. It made 409M on 125M budget and it was still considered a flop that put planned universe on hold until now. So now I know that if movie costs around 150M and earns less than 400M then it is 100% flop.
>mad max troony utopia didnt flop…i swear!!!!
>theaters get half
nice try

Furios was a HUGE bomb.
You are straight up incorrect. If this was the case Hollywood would be bankrupt, post some sources
I look for it to be one of the most pirated movies of all time, with all the positive word of mouth that it got.
>being this poor
I don’t know what me expecting a lot of people to pirate it has anything to do with my income level.
Probably a shill. Pay no mind. They're always trying to bring anons down for posting obvious facts.
It's a pajeet thing, just ignore it.
>poor
Tell that to Furiosa's producers, I'm not the one who just lost millions of dollars.
Good moring saars
I haven't paid for a movie since 2014, and before that 2010.
>with all the positive word of mouth that it got.
lmao

Nobody cares about Furiosa. Haha. Is there a benefit to releasing movies the studio knows won't make money?
>the studio knows won't make money

It was slop. Essentially everyone realized it was before being subjected to it.
It's bad, American theaters return 50%, worldwide ones 20-30%
Wow, good thing theatres and international distributors don't take a cut.
So taking into account the theaters’ cut and the marketing budget, just how badly did this flop?
A few different estimates of its break-even point average around $380 million.
In which case it lost WB around $210 million. That badly.
>people still don't understand that box office numbers aren't 1:1 going to the production company
How?
>People are still stupid and getting more stupid
That isn't going to change.
Furiosa was a great movie. I don't care about the box office.
Now they just need to make back the marketing costs and they can break even
Fantastic news! So every additional dollar made is a dollar of profit now?
Chuds will argue that this isn't good enough even though it's literally generating free money now
That's not how it works, brainlet.
>Yay multinational corporation!
They suckered that many people to watch that slop? Congrats.
Felt like the end kind of sputtered out.
>muh marketing
>muh theaters
Utter cope by haters who don't want movies to be successful.
>marketing and theater costs don’t exist, you’re just a hater
Studios aren’t sending their best to this board
I liked it.
obvious girl boss movie but remarkably white.
it looked like a 90s film.
I don’t watch any spinoffs

was the cast all white?
yeah
no there were a few blacks too, i counted like 3
you didn't even watch it
That's not even breaking even considering how the money is split
