Couldn’t get past the first ten minutes with the obvious diversity hire star. I have no problem with black people but when they’re clearly made the star of a movie purely because they’re black im out. Guy looked like a 12 year old schoolboy trying to do a tough guy impression

If all you could focus on in the opening scene was the protagonist's race, then you probably wouldn't have liked the movie

I was focused on him not being able to act, then I put 2 and 2 together and figured they cared more about rainbow hiring than making a good film

        Anonymous

I don't think that movie had a single line about race at all. It was actually kind of nice to have a black protagonist and zero subtext about muh racism

          Anonymous

Yeah that’s how it was usually done pre 2011. It’s amazing to look back at how quickly and savagely the media switched on the race bait propaganda after the financial crisis, the whole thing is just one big “don’t blame us blame white people”

He was just too average looking. Young Wesley Snipes or Denzel Washington type actor would’ve been great but for me this guy looks like he belongs at a checkout in a supermarket. Like the casters just said “Great! A black guy, he’ll do”

            Anonymous

he was good enough, nondescript - can't have a star, he's playing a generic character, "the protagonist" - plus he's probably cheaper than those guys

Movie: Villains established, bros established, actor's career stalled
Ending: Villains vanquished, bros tighter than ever, actor makes new acquaintances and career given fresh life

          >irrelevant characters get horribly killed in cartoon fashion
          >suspension of disbelief wrecked
          >central dramatic tension - will bros split up? - evaporated

that's how it felt to me, anyway. i really thought they were setting up the following:
          >tate gets murdered horribly
          >drunk leo listening to headphones in pool doesn't hear the screams
          >brad does but he thinks he's hallucinating cos of acid
          >public interest gives leo's career a sordid shot in the arm
          >until it comes out that leo's murderer friend was seen hanging out with the mansons
          >police come around to interview brad
          >al pacino's not happy
          >"leo a whiff of scandal and these new movie offers will evaporate"
          >"you've got to ditch brad"
          >leo forced to choose between fame and friend

          >maybe he chooses fame, threatens to tell the cops brad murdered his wife unless he fricks off back to arkansas
          >maybe he chooses friend, old hollywood types driven out of hollywood together

Interesting breakdown. Would've been a downbeat ending though, and the whole movie to that point was already a meandering affair. Kinda needed the action jolt at the end, and QT was desperate to rewrite that history for what probably is his last big movie signoff.

              >Would've been a downbeat ending though
depends which way you go and how you play it
but that's the thing, i don't think you had the option of an upbeat ending
the ending he gave us is technically upbeat, but it's so out of place and jarring that it just comes off as ridiculous
              >and the whole movie to that point was already a meandering affair. Kinda needed the action jolt at the end
              arguably
i think it would've brought it all together, all these disparate plot strands, and seeing those dominos fall into place would've been fun enough
maybe there could've been an action scene where the police chase cliff, i don't know, maybe he wigs out cos he doesn't want to go to jail - already established earlier in the film - and it makes him look guilty... YES, and leo has to choose whether to give up his location to the cops or help him skip town
but it's a fair point that it would've made the film meander some more - might have added thirty to sixty minutes depending on how you played it
              >and QT was desperate to rewrite that history
              why?
              >for what probably is his last big movie signoff.
              doesn't he have one more?

only pedos obsess this much over pedos

Its probably true though. Quintin Terentino went on Howard Stern and flat out defended pedos saying 13 shouldnt make someone a pedo and if theyre a "party girl" they can consent, etc. He didnt say all this outright but it was in defense of someone he knew who got caught up.
