Have you heard Dick's Automotive though? I don't like how close Albuquerque is, he even rips off some of the gags like the drum bit for someone "knocking on the door". I still like Albuquerque but it soured me a bit. Goes past homage into rip-off just a tad.

They do different things. Though the parodies will always be this mimic and meta joke, while the originals will be full of soul.

Aren't most of his originals parodies in their own right? It's just that they're "style" parodies more than lyric swaps. Dude makes good music.

Edgy "young adulthood" is hating Weird Al because you want to feel like an adult and not be written off as a nerd by women. True adulthood is realizing that Weird Al has consistently provided quality family-friendly light entertainment for decades. Apart from the odd "crap" or "hell" here and there, and suggestive humor, his act is PG-13 at its hardest. He never works blue.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. And heck, even 2010s and later weird al is still kino of the highest order. I remember the first time I heard this was live and I still listen to it a couple times a month. The music video even has a murderer in it!

quite frankly i don't understand why any celebrity gets a biopic.

It's going to be a comedic movie and not a serious biopic. Weird Al does want to make comedies but it didn't work out with UHF being a flop.

        UHF rules tho.

      Anonymous

      >biopic
Yeah I don't get it either. I understand you COULD do a funny movie with that structure, but the trailer didn't give much of an idea how the humor would be. Weird Al puts a lot of effort into his stuff so I have modest hopes, but I need more than "lol Daniel Radcliffe".

        Anonymous

Weird Al finds weird shit funny. Look at the UHF movie where he gets a bunch of literal who comedians to do their thing. It's probably going to be like that. Like the Kipper Kids bit or the dude who cut off his finger. Weird Al finds these people hilarious.

Emo Philipps was known in the 80s.

            Anonymous

He was barely in anything noteworthy. (You) can look it up. He was on 5 episodes of Letterman, a small cameo in Miami Vice, 1 tv special, 1 episode of Max Headroom show.
Saying this guy was known is like saying Gilbert Gottfried was known after appearing on SNL for a few episodes when in reality Gilbert Gottfried became known only with Aladdin.
Maybe people who follow standup comedy might know who this guy is but to everyone else he is a literal who.

do you think that is a good or bad thing?

                Anonymous

Neutral. I think it's weird to claim that he was known. Obviously Weird Al found this guy very funny and wanted to give this guy more exposure.
Check the guy's imdb. His top 4 credits start with UHF, two movies made after UHF and voicing a minor character in Adventure Time.
I think you can expect the same kind of shit from the biopic. Weird Al will get comedians who aren't well established and aren't well known but are very weird and are doing something no other comedian does.

It's not a real biopic. He just wanted to make another comedy movie and is using the biopic angle as a method of delivery. Same reason he chose Daniel Radcliffe, who looks nothing like Weird Al at any angle including height. THey both thought it was funny.

Al “style” parodies of specific bands that are purely original otherwise > polka medleys > wholly original songs > parodies
Obviously there are outliers but this is the general tiers when dealing with his body of work.

He's looking visibly older in recent pics IMO. But for a while it felt like barely any change.

he's from an era where production was extremely difficult and you had to be mainstream to get anything seen so just making anything mildly amusing and well put together on tv made you famous. he's really not that funny and would have been like a channel awesome personality (at best) if he did the same shit today.

I get what you're saying but if he came out today he would be doing a different style because he would have different influences.

Weird Al at his peak was amazing and now he is shit because there is nothing worth parodying. His career was ruined by everything else being ruined.
When he started doing shit like Lady Gaga and Lorde parodies it was over. The songs are shit, the lyrics are too repetitive to do anything with them, the music videos are shit and not worth remaking, the musicians don't have any actual interesting character to mock. Mocking Michael Jackson for his weird mannerisms and how he looks and dresses is funny because the guy was such a weirdo, with Lady Gaga it's just an insane prostitute wearing stupid shit for attention. It's not funny to point out that Lady Gaga wore an outfit made of meat.

VHF was genuinely kino though, doug walker could never

      Anonymous

If he did this today he would be a massive hit on Tik Tok and become richer than he has ever been. If you can dress up as some celebrity and do a good impression, if you can sing well and put together a decently written parody, that shit goes viral.
This is why Dog Walker has never made it big. He can't dress up as the one he is parodying as that is too much effort, he can't do an impression, he can't sing, the parody lyrics are awful.

Look at a music video like Eat It. Weird Al completely nails the Michael Jackson impression while still being an obvious over the top parody.

    Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of Cinemaphile are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have posted a thread, but the thread has nothing at all to do with the topic of the board! Whoops! You should always remember to look at the address bar to see which board you're posting on! Posting offtopic threads is poor form. You should always try to stay on topic!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!
