nah, g4 came out of techtv and that was mostly not gaming at all. there was also anime and shit way back before that was a thing.

In the beginning there were 2 networks; G4 (focused on gaming) and TechTv (focused on computers and tech). TechTV was much more popular than G4, so comcast bought TechTV and merged the two networks into G4TechTv. I believe they dropped the TechTv name within a year of the merger and were just known as G4 from then on.
