He's making it up. An odeon was an ancient stage: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odeon_(building)

Then in the 1900s, a "nickelodeon" was a theater you'd go to for a nickel. They named the channel after this concept. Anon is being schizo is and making up bullshit for attention.

What? A nickelodeon is an old timey theater so called because admission was a nickel. It's a portmanteau of nickel and melodeon, a sort of instrument you'd hear in such an establishment.

        What?

Pre-Dill Rugrats, Doug, Salute Your Shorts, early SpongeBob, All That, Guts, Pete & Pete were all kino.

90s Nickelodeon was incredible. I honestly feel blessed to have been a kid then. Combine that with the games video games we got back then and I feel like there was no better decade to be a kid.

Once you get to the 2000s the quality starting dropping hard and they started focusing on Disney Channel tier live action garbage.

It always mogged the Disney channel. Nickelodeon had actually funny shows like Angry Beavers and Ren & Stimpy, then if you stayed up late enough you would catch the absolute kino of Nick at Nite and see some classic eps of the Dick Van Dyke Show, I Dream of Genie and I Love Lucy. We didn't know how good we had it.

Nick mogged Disney but Cartoon Network mogged Nick.

I didn't get CN until we got an extended cable package and by that time I had grown out of shit like Dexter's Laboratory. Nick was a lot more than just cartoons too, I remember loving their live action stuff like All That and Keenan & Kell. I actually wrote a fan letter in to them one time, and Kell Mitchell responded with a nice letter back. The 90s were wholesome as frick.

You probably ended up watching second era Dexter's Lab with the different voice actors and art style.

Yeah but to a certain era. CN then got mogged by Adult Swim and now none of the cartoon channels are good.

It was packed with great content in the early 90's. Almost everything they did was worth a watch. You Can't Do That On Television was a gem of an edgy for teens comedy show. Pete and Pete was great teen comedy with many a likable character. All That was funny enough to rival adult comedy.

Why was Doug so beloved? I love it but I can't think why. It wasn't a good cartoon by any metric.

I don't know. I always thought Doug was lame.

Doug had a fun style but suffered from never doing anything particularly interesting. It's the most underwhelming show I've ever seen. It looks and acts like it wants to be interesting, but then it never gets around to actually being interesting. I remember some parody of it summed up the real show well. In the parody, after Doug has backed down yet again to some idea of Roger's, Roger says "Funny, you never fail to be the biggest pussy in Bluffington." Which really was the whole problem with the show. No courage on the part of the writers means no meaningful lessons or drama. I wonder who the writers thought the target audience was. Even shows like Captain Planet had strong adult themes and were pitched at very young audiences. Doug didn't need to be that edgy but it sure didn't need to be as bland and sterile as it was either.
