Yeah. I loved going to video rental shops, would go with my cousins every weekend. I have a lot of tape covers burned into my head that I will never remember the titles of.

Nothing like finding a Van Damme movie you hadn't seen yet. Frick Black Eagle though, not what I expected.

I loved getting a weekend game rental. I really looked forward to it and got to try a ton of games. I didn't go in for the movies too much until we got Netflix mailers and killed block buster. Tgey had no games so I went down an Asian cinema hole full of b tier shit with some kino sprinkled about.

You went there with friends or your girlfriend to rent movies or games, so it was a fun activity that promoted human interaction.

no, blockbuster was corporate swill, the real kino was the mom&pop stores that carried bizarre, independent releases; the ones that were driven out of business by wienerblockbuster.

Used to rent Faces Of Death, Traces Of Death, and a bunch of the more obscure tapes from those joints.

I still can't watch anything with her in it. I was at a motel on a business trip the past few days and got lonely, paid a working gal to just drink some beers with me and watch tv and she put it on King of the Hill. I don't know why but it had completely escaped my mind that she was in that show and soon as I heard that voice I just started crying. I just paid her and she left. I wonder what she was thinking. Oh well.

several years later, when I was a dropout loser who worked at a VHS store, I would get pissed off boomers fuming at me for recommending bad movies to them

The best part about blockbuster was renting movies that were know to be jerk off films that your parents would let you rent like Species and my personal favorite, Titanic…but like when it first came out because there was just that ONE nude scene, and my friends and I would put a piece of tape on the side of the VHS cassette so you could record over it, and then we’d wait for a Richard Simmons commercial and get the timing just right so the moment Rose drops the gown it immediately cut to Simmons saying “IT’S TIME TO WORK OUT OUR LITTLE BUNS!” And we’d time it perfectly so every single time you were about to see boobage it would cut to something that was the complete opposite like the guy from The Hot Seat screaming “YOU’RE GETTIN’ OUTTA HERE!”

We did other shit too like edit the sixth sense with two VCRs so the the twist ending was the first thing you saw right before the movie started.

    Good times.

Yeah I tried to rent a game like that and one of the chicks that was working the cash register called me a pervert, and it just so happens that one of my neighbors was there and told my dad I was trying to rent "funny" porn. My dad literally had to take breaks between kicking my ass.

And then I wasn't allowed to go back to blockbuster again, or at least not until I had moved out and was making enough money to be able to get my own membership, but by then they were already starting to close up and sell out their inventory. I remember trying to rent a copy of some movie and the guy told me to just go ahead and not even return it.

No, the movie or game you would want to rent would be taken, their prices were expensive, and you had to return it quickly. Not sure why autists don't just go to the library to rent their media, if their autism is inhibits them from watching or downloading movies/games online.

Blockbusters, hollywood video and the more common mom and pop stores were great as a kid. Blockbuster had the upper hand by having kiosk and tv's displaying specific flavor of the months movies. Hollywood video had them as well but after they got as big, the mom and pop shops only ever had a tv at the front or in thew window playing some crazy movie that no one wanted to watch, which is how I ended up watching lawnmowerman for the first time.

I enjoyed going there. Every Wednesday they had movies for $1 and my parents would bring me.
Then in high school I used to talk with the guy that worked there and he recommended me lots of kino. I also brought pirated PS games to play.
That place is now a pawn shop and it makes me sad because the guy genuinely loved movies.
