Wow look at that you can reduce anything to its most basic and absurd elements.

did you even watch the show? if anything its kind of a deconstruction of that generation. but also wearing suits and drinking is unironically pretty comfy

        >haha wasn't this country a horrible and oppressive place before hippies and black people changed everything in the 60s!
There are literally thousands of movies and tv shows about this 1960s baby boomer wank, I dunno why Mad Men is so beloved

        because its great

How is it a deconstruction when Hollywood has been making fun of those types of conservative middle class whites since the 1960s? What's great about it? Everything I've head about Mad Men sounds trite, banal and boring.

the writing is great, the characters are complex, not two dimensional caricatures (for the most part) the plot is very well paced for a show that is 7 seasons long, it has satisfying character arcs and serves as a pretty good catalogue of the changing socio-political climate of the 60's.

you also admit you haven't watched it which is obviously fine if it isn't something that interests you. but the idea of you getting to rule it out of the running for best tv show when youve never seen it is just goofy

It's not that fricking good. Let's be real here. It had funny and memorable characters but that's about it. The Shield is a far more powerful and detailed human drama and piece of television and art.

The Shield is schlock. I enjoy it but it's not a great series.

The Shield was some FX bullshit. HBO, for a brief period, was allowed to create art and The Sopranos was part of that... just a slice of life art from week to week,

To this day, no one has given me any good reason why such a formulative meme show is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It feels like some NPC rhetoric no one actually believes but feel "good" spouting because it's "fact". It's slave morality.

It was just the atmosphere, the aesthetic, it was peak SOVL. The settings gave off this autumn feeling and you really felt like you were witnessing mob life in new Jersey as an invisible bystander

The characters were extremely likeable and you got invested in everyone. Some parts are just legendary e.g Tonys coma hotel ending, everyone laughing at Chris in slow mo

Really interesting depictions of human psychology and sociology at the mass and individual scale

the timing, the tone.... If you don't like sopranos, you don't like kino in general and are most likely very very low IQ

For me it was commendatori s2e4 and pine barrens s3e11.

It's not just about building up the characters and the settings, but also daring to take them out of their usual habitat and pace, testing their limits in radical situations.

Witnessing the cruelty and detachment of the real italian maffia, or having the tables turned in the forest by an ex-kgb agent, each has to reflect on their own weaknesses, and get their self image shattered.

Not really. That's not an objective reason.

          >LE SOVL

Not a single good fricking argument to this show's quality. Just say it's a fun meme show, don't shill it as a great piece of art because it's not. All of it's legacy is made of memes.

The Sopranos isn't just a meme show it's a genuinely great examination of the American family around the turn of the 21st century

I do not get it. Sopranos was pretty terrible. The writing was 75% trash with a couple good performances. That's it. Arguably the most overrated show ever.

no, the only effectively erotic part of the series is when Tony has that dream about Melfi and she steps out the shower
