Porky usually plays straight man to a lot of the more "wacky" characters.

He hung out with Sylvester a few times too.

The first cartoon that Daffy appeared in was a Porky short.

I thought it was an Egghead (proto-Elmer Fudd) cartoon? I know proto-Bugs was in a Porky cartoon.

Nope, it was a Porky cartoon (Porky's Duck Hunt)

No, it was Porky’s Duck Hunt, but I believe his first appearance in color was with Egghead.

Right, I forgot about that one

They did, but I think there are almost as many shorts with this pair on LTC as there are on the classic cartoons

They were the stars before Bugs Bunny had been invented.

Porky is the perfect straight man to any of Daffy's iterations.

Porky had become this Mickey Mouse like figure for Warner Bros, which meant that nobody really liked writing for him all that much because he was such a boring everyman.
Putting him with Daffy he became much more fun for them because there are several ways he can be played off of Daffy's manic energy.

the fact that he's the most innocent of the tunes really makes the times he's pissed all the more impactful. you know you've fricked up with the most calm, courteous, and collected member of the group wants your head on a pike.

Porky was pissed almost all the time in McKimson's shorts, that's cheating

            impressive

It's a sad fate, given how Porky's nice-guy image MADE him a star, sticking him out from all the other 'scrappy little everyman' characters of the time (Mickey, Felix, Popeye, plus WB's own Beans the Cat).

Once old guard like Clampett moved on, he was pretty much unwanted outside of Daffy pairups (there's some great solo Porky outings like Bye Bye Bluebeard and Mouse Menace).

Also, frick pic related' where Speedy sings about Porky is a boring virgin loser for 2 minutes.
