>I would like to add Against the Ice as bonus material
Shit reviews. But who cares, critics are moronic. I'll give it a watch.
There's also that Mads Mikkelsen one where he saves some chick in the Antarctic.
>It's the Arctic and it's not that interesting.
Right, it's actually "Arctic" instead of "Antarctic" (that's the cold place in the south).
It was alright to see once.
"The Thing" was good too. Yeah, there's even another thread up about how Norwegians should know english.

>Norwegians should know english.
They should, but there's no reason to believe that a panicked guy chasing an eldritch monster would have the state of mind to shout his warnings in anything but his mother tongue. Plenty of people revert to their first language after they've been in an accident or they're calling out a warning in a panicked matter.

Well yes, Sweden obviously would end up at the bottom. below Germany for sure, then the rest of the skandies. Where's Iceland though?
In other news, Switzerland rules. You can freeze to death here too. It's more news-worthy too for sure. "Tourist in sandals loses fight against 4000m mountain!"
They do that quite a lot!

Iceland is its own category imo, its too unique to really be compared with any other country but can be used as an example for why immigration is terrible simply by being homogeneously white without crime

Immigration isn't even that bad if you just make them clean your toilets.
But, duly noted. Not even having to deal with that problem is even better.

That's fine. There's a lot of office space, laboratories and so on that needs to be cleaned though.
...until we have robots to do that. Which perhaps also can execute some necessary killing at some later point in time.
Heh.

Cheap labor undermines the incentive to create toilet cleaning robots.
North Water was fricked by the pandemic, I vaguely recall. It's hard for the crew to make anything really good when they're forced by law to be "socially distant" from each other.
Unpopular opinion: Hickey was not actually gay. He was just a sociopath who used it as a way to control people. If he was on land he would have used his charm to woo some woman to steal her inheritance, or get her to kill her husband and give him all their silver.
It really should've gotten more attention. Removing the supernatural elements that The Terror inserted into the setting grounded The North Water in ways that few shows have in the past.
>The North Water was three years ago >The Terror was six
Where does the time go? We would have had time to take the Northwest Passage, just for one time, since they aired.
>tfw no Terror-style adaptation of Patrick O'brian's early novels about Anson's Voyage, focusing on the scurvy, mutinies and cannibalism that lead to only 10 percent of the crew making it back to England
That part where they're on the island and see their sister-ship try to make it to them but the wind keeps pushing them off in the opposite direction and they know they might all die of scurvy while in sight of salvation would be some intense shit if shot right.

I love it.
Such a good shot
Pirates of the Caribbean killed any chance for sequels
The Terror is better. Great performances from multiple actors in it. North Water is good, but only Colin Firth is really great in it. The main character in it is only so-so. I cared a lot more about the crew of the two ships on The Terror.
A couple of years ago I had the chance of paying like 300 bucks for a week-long mini-vacation of sailing an old wooden Brig from one city to another, either just going along for the ride, sunbathing and eating food prepared by a chef or actually helping out pulling on ropes and learning how all the sails and stuff work. I really regret not doing it. The only thing stopping me was the fact that I'd be stuck on the ship with a bunch of strangers for a whole week and I didn't think I could handle that part.
The show really didn't sell the cold as an enemy as well as the book did. It felt weird to see people walking around with their faces or even heads uncovered, while the books were filled with passages about people losing the tips of their nose or ears because they didn't put their covers on properly before going on watch.
I haven't watched it but I know it's set on a boat so it HAS to be kino.
The Terror>North Water
>The Terror>North Water
I am willing to let them exist on the same level of Kino.
They're both must have seen.
They both elevate each other and I would like to add Against the Ice as bonus material

The Terror is absolute kino.
North Water is fun, but nowhere near as interesting.
A good amount of gay sex.
How come in both shows the villain was a gay man?
Gay people are evil.
Unpopular opinion: Hickey was not actually gay. He was just a sociopath who used it as a way to control people. If he was on land he would have used his charm to woo some woman to steal her inheritance, or get her to kill her husband and give him all their silver.
He did a gay act and then became a sociopath as a result
Simply enjoy the ride.
Are we brothers Anon?
I would like that very much.
I already told Sir John "You're not my dad!" so yes, we can be brothers not of Sir John.
Cold nautical 19th century British kino
Are there any more shows with the same feel?
boredom
>boredom
Go back to your cartoons, fricking zoomer.
post your breasts
The North Water was really underappreciated kino. Farrell knocks it out of the park
It really should've gotten more attention. Removing the supernatural elements that The Terror inserted into the setting grounded The North Water in ways that few shows have in the past.
It isn't a spooker or a shocker. It is Northwest Passage kino tho.

KINO until the last episode where it meanders.
A show for men, by men, about men.
Literally gay porn without the gay porn.

>mc in the north water magically overcomes his opium addiction and it's never spoken of again
Just close your lungs, bro. lmao just walk away into the cold wastes of the North to get away from the opinion dens!
>The Terror aired 6 years ago
I'm an old man now.
just a baffling decision to cast this little kid in such a role.
if you want boat kino but also want a laugh
yellowbeard
>boat kino but also want a laugh
Say no more, Boss!
daughter was so cute but never really had a career
The stupid looking monster kept The Terror from being great.
The real terror was the cold, ice, isolation, starvation, and eventual cannibalism.
The show really didn't sell the cold as an enemy as well as the book did. It felt weird to see people walking around with their faces or even heads uncovered, while the books were filled with passages about people losing the tips of their nose or ears because they didn't put their covers on properly before going on watch.
Left: kino, right: gyno
