Another cartoon, it has to be pretty good at that if Jem doesn't want to be a flash in the pan, but to even get that Hasbro has to believe they can make moves on the Mattel dominated Doll market.
Well, they did Equestria Girls to compete in the doll market. Always felt like that was a missed opportunity for a Jem reboot instead of further milking the horse machine.
Equestria Girls was more going up against Monster High and the issue was that Hasbro fundamentally did not understand what made Monster High work, which ironically Faust understood when making Horse show. That there are different ways to be a girl. Monster High characters have simplistic personalities but they are unique. Horse show had this but it was muted for EG for "OMG highschool prom is tomarrow" which why we got a handful of movies/specials and then it died on the table.
Equestria Girls was largely pointless yeah, but I gotta admit I loved Rainbow Rocks, would have been great to have a new Jem series with some kickass tunes
This movie was so reverent of a version of Jem that did not exist in this universe, it left no room for anything humorous or outrageous.
This movie was our Rings of Power.
Like how they Tricked the fans in to sending Video Messages on why they liked the Cartoon only to frick them over on the Movie and state that they weren't talking about the show but the characters in the Movie.

Between the movie being the generic story about fame tearing up a friend group and not using anything that made the original so memorable and unique its no wonder it failed. Though I love the fact that using the recordings of celebrities praising the cartoon in real life to use in the movie sounds like a villain plot the cartoon would have.
