Have you seen The Man From Earth? Get past the $7k (if that) budget and the fact that everyone except for the MC can’t act and it’s actually a revelation. Oh and it’s not strictly sci-fi either but The Quiet Earth’s title reminded me of it

why do people like that shit so much? the short story was decent to good, the movie is crap its just really badly done, its not unwatchable but its not good, conversely quite earth while suffering from similar problems is good genuinely great story well told well shot, on a tiny budget and a limited pool of actors

Good thing about ST:SNW is you can see that the bio pods the protag of Silent Running saved are attached to a space station in their credits sequence. Someone cared about Huey, Dewey and Louie.

yes yes I like snw worlds too, did notice that, honestly though I didn't care much for silent running, it insisted on itself, sets and props are gorgeous though

also because the 3 characters died (temporarily) at that exact moment they didn't move

are there any of these "last person on earth" movies where the person is in fact the last person on earth. it always seems like they eventually have to introduce another character, usually conveniently a woman.

i mean even then youre introducing the possibility of there being someone. while writing this i thought of one actual example which is that Twilight Zone episode "Time Enough At Last". although that one is so short that it never really gets into the character searing far and wide for other people

thats hat I mean, their have been quite a few of these i've read, one it was vampire fluffy slippers, not kidding, the last man on earth would watch and wait but after time concentration would slip and that fur rug in the corner might just be a vampire furry slipper waiting for you to sleep
