came here to post exactly this.
not because theyre widely discussed on here but he actually shines in Vinterberg's work.
Jagten/The Hunt has to be his GOAT role for me
It's a strange fucking film. I didn't love or hate it but the ending made me feel sick and hollow. Don't think I'll ever rewatch. Only film I've had a similar experience with was Under the Skin. Far better than Valhalla Rising imo but I don't ever want to rewatch
That's what Refn was going for. Too old to die young is kino and very similar in that regard (the unease lingering feeling).
I suspect Refn is secretly a fascist and his whole schtick is about how we're in Kali Yuga and the world is at an end of a cycle. Would also explain his obsession with the US in his movies despite him absolutely hating the US as a country to live in or even visit (he lives in a nice neighborhood of Paris).
>I suspect Refn is secretly a fascist
I don't get that feeling. I think Only God Forgives is his "pinnacle" of everything he ever wanted to do in his films. And based on that, I think it's easy to think he longs for an omnipotent being/competent government to lead the people and sort shit out regardless of individual frustrations. But really I think his films are simpler than that. He straight up fantasizes about power and fixing all the wrongs through violence, but recognises his own impotence and his satisfaction with just doing what he can for those he cares about.
I don't know. A lot of his films have themes of family (or adopted family) and the lengths people go to protect theirs even if it's not a good idea.
Not a bad analysis.
Although what you say and longing for the end of the cycle is not necessarily dissimilar.
At least we can agree that contrary to what is spewed here all the time, his movies, much like the ones from Lars von Trier, are not promoting degeneracy or libertine behaviors, on the contrary, they are very moralising.
>At least we can agree that contrary to what is spewed here all the time, his movies, much like the ones from Lars von Trier, are not promoting degeneracy or libertine behaviors, on the contrary, they are very moralising.
Not the anon you replied to but just want to tell you you're based. I've watched a ton of Lars Von Trier films recently and absolutely love his work
Are you daft? Paris is one of the few globohomo metropolis that actually has nice places. Maybe Moscow, Rome and Tokyo too, but that's it.
The 16th or 15th arrondissement are absolutely great.
That Paris isn't what it should be doesn't mean it's Detroit.
The Norfman unironically has nothing about it that's good. The best you can say is that parts of it aren't bad.
The story is incredibly derivative (and stupid). The fight scenes, arguably the most important part of the film since it's an action epic, are really terrible. They're all obviously choreographed and rehearsed with people just waiting around to pretend to get hit.
Valhalla Rising feels like a film that's actually saying something. It has a point and is unique in achieving that. It's creepy and unsettling. It challenges the audience. It keeps you on your toes. Like I said, the middle on the boat is really drawn out and that ruins the film for a lot of people. But outside of that, the other 5 minutes are arguably a masterpiece.
ide argue the boat scene being that drawn out helps the audience to place themselves in the same mindset of the sailors
they were agonizing at being adrift and going insane
is there no room for the best movie game in /misc/? it's really good scifi, has good pacing and ez mode so you dont really have to try and definitely Mads best role
He needs to be in a movie with clear full frontal. The Black Kaiser please deliver, I was so annoyed watching Polar not just because the movie was ass but because it was lit so low that I couldn't see his dick.
>Men & Chicken
Pure, unmitigated kino. Never understood why this film isn't beloved on this board. It feels tailor-made for it. Maybe it hits too close to home.
>watch some movie about him opening up a restaurant in the middle of nowhere >there's a scene about a kid committing suicide that's supposed to be comedic
Danes are weird
oh it's definitely not a movie to watch if you want to be in a good mood after it's over. but it's so well-made it's one of those that's worth suffering through, imo. really makes you feel for his character.
>Can you add subs for someone else's video?
I'm 90% sure you can. If you wanna know what I got, at the 1:50 mark after he says he's watching Manchester United he adds they're playing against Deportivo (La Coruña), only managed to get that because I'm from Spain. Looked up the kits, the date and the ads and it fits.
Fuck I love smoking darts bros. 3 hours til my favorite Cafe opens and I can get a cappuccino and smoke a dart out the front. There's a tidy 18 year old who works there and she gives me the horn bad. Any Mads bros ktf?
Are people aware he has rather limited use?
Quite honest I would even say he sucks as an actor but makes his way as finding roles where his looks and non need for acting will let him be successful.
Any scenes come to mind where he is enraged and you feel it? Or elated bursting with happiness and you really can feel it through screen? How about just getting out the simple emotion of being confused? Or fear something? Like you can pick anything other than mastery of being stoick...
Next thing is the voice. When people can do with voice stuff it elevates the character. Watch for example dr strange1 and how mordo talks in emotional scenes when he was betrayed. That is fucking another level. Or take blood tomahawk and Chicory, how masterfully acted he is with voice and emotions.
Mads is handsome and great fit for hannibal lecter, but nothing special, needing recurring posts here.
>Any scenes come to mind where he is enraged and you feel it? Or elated bursting with happiness and you really can feel it through screen? How about just getting out the simple emotion of being confused? Or fear something?
Only with two movies, Druk and Jagten, he masterfully expresses each emotion you mention. While I agree with you in that he's slightly typecast in Hollywood, he has a lot of range.
>>"Do you smoke a lot of cigarettes?" >> "As many as I can manage."
i always remember that. based and kek.

I don't understand the appeal of earing regular old humans full of microplastics. Now if you had a farm where the long pig was forced to eat only the best livestock feed and hormones I could be convinced.

I wasn't thinking of microplastics at the time but it did seem weird to me that some perfectionist like Hannibal would eat people that had poor diets or took prescription medications. I know the whole "it's not cannibalism if they're not your equal" line on the show but it seems like eating some of the people he did was beneath him.

Druk
Do non scandinavians watch druk dubbed or subbed?
for me it's subtitles but it would be kind of neat to watch an English dub if Mads did his own voice
Subbed, no matter what. Subbed preserves the kino and enables me to experience it like it was meant to.
absolutely this.
Subbed. Why would I ever watch any foreign film dubbed

He has a dry kind of acting, always plays the same kind of character.
i hear that, but he's different in the witcher. best i've seen from him anyway.
He's fine in sherlock and good as Thrawn in Star wars Rebels he better be playing him in the ahsoka live action series.
We honour animals by eating them 🙂

That meme would work better if Josukefish was Bucciaratifish since the latter actually fights a fishing rod Stand in Part 5 (Pesci's Beach Boy).
I actually wonder if it's possible to eat so much human meat in the long run. Aren't some parts of human toxic to other humans?

Casino Royale and Hannibal season 1 and 2 are some max mads kino. Season 3 is a dumpster fire entirely but he still has a few decent scenes.
