I have watched quite a number of horror movies but I found most of them to be pretty mediocre. Do you guys got any recommendations?
I have watched quite a number of horror movies but I found most of them to be pretty mediocre. Do you guys got any recommendations?
none
horror isn't a valid genre
What themes do you enjoy?
themes??
wtf kinda filmschool homosexual talk is this
homie it's a movie you watch it and then it's over wtf THEMES?!?
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I don't really mind the theme or type of horror movie.
Personally I'm a fan of cosmic horror books, and I have yet to see a cosmic horror movie done right.
Have you seen Pandorum?
no but I recall seeing the posters for that a long time ago. might watch it, thanks for the recommendation.
All but aliens, monsters and ghosts seem more interesting.
unrealistic really. Cosmic horror is too bombastic to be horror. Yeah a giant creature eating the planet would be awesome, but how do you drag that out over a movie and keep everything else interesting? You just end up with a cloverfield.
Write interesting characters?
The "Cosmic" aspects don't have to be, and probably shouldn't be, the primary storytelling concepts.
Moon could've had cosmic horror elements in it, and you'd still have the psychological horror storyline of Sam Bell.
>cosmic horror books, and I have yet to see a cosmic horror movie done right
The Empty Man
Color out of space is probably the best true cosmic horror I can think of. The void had good visuals, but it kind of fell apart storywise. Dagon and messiah of evil are great Lovecraftian movies, highly recommend both of those.
Pic related is a pretty good Lovecraft adaptation. Apart from a few bad special effects it holds up rather well.
Oh, actually I'd recommend annihilation as a cosmic horror too. Don't get memed by people saying it's a "blacked or womyn strong movie", because it really isnt
>cosmic horror movie done right.
The Mothman Prophecies
The Beach House
Die Farbe
Black Mountain Side
Quatermass and the Pit
I personally was not a fan of The Beach House at all.
Event Horizon
In The Mouth of Madness
The Thing
Prince of Darkness
Dagon
Colour out of Space
The Call of Cthulu
Not a movie but also read The Night Land
Really depends what you like. Spooky? monsters? gore? explained paranormal? unexplained paranormal?
Personally I prefer spooky horror that goes goes unexplained, but lots of people hate that.
Lake Mungo
The Descent
Kairo
The Night House
The Descent (2005) is great and very underrated, but be careful to watch the UK version, not the completely moronic Mutt one
Do you like monsters, ghosts, aliens or serial killers?
I'll assume you've seen the classics. A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Hellraiser, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead etc.
As for other recommendations:
>A Dark Song
Not a tremendously scary film, but it's a relatively unique horror centered around rituals and religion and it has a great plot.
>The Night House
Absolutely fantastic movie that's in the ghost/haunted house/mystery category. Multiple brilliant scares and a great story. The ending is not quite as good as the rest of the film but it's still excellent. Can not recommend enough.
>Southbound
Watched this recently, it's a horror anthology in the mold of the v/h/s series. 5 short stories (15-20 minutes each) all connected by a narrative thread. Gets a good mix of the supernatural/slasher/thriller genres while keeping a consistent tone. A lot of fun.
Great suggestions.
Horrible. I hope such evil never happens to me.
What unspeakable evil.
What makes them evil? Boobs?
teeth
though the one original vampire movie I saw is Martin (1976)
An older vampire male.
This video is very erotic.
>thirsts for blood
>goes for milk instead
stupid woman
I watched The Dark and the Wicked recently. Itwas pretty fricking good.
Tenebrae
The New York ripper
Maniac
I've seen every horror movie ever made, (I literally went year by year on IMBD/wikipedia), AMA
What would you say is your favorite horror movie?
What do you consider the scariest horror movie?
>What would you say is your favorite horror movie?
I'm not great at picking favorites, but I'd say probably the 80s fly or thing re-adaptations. I know that's hardly a nourishing answer but they're the only films that come to mind.
>What do you consider the scariest horror movie?
I don't get scared at all so I'm not the best to ask this question to. I mainly enjoy horror because it almost acts as an exacerbated version of sci-fi or drama, it's less about fear and more about the exploration of concepts that get to us emotionally.
The Descent Part 1
The Descent Part 2
Insidious
Insidious 2
Start with those, and if you want an old classic
The Howling
The Howling 2
Forgot to mention check out
The Fog.
The Mist.
In case you never saw those Kinos.
Which is the best color?
going off the films that I've seen
Blue > Yellow > Red > Green
Best green films are Re-animator, Invisible Man and [Rec] while also including abject shit like Children of the Corn 666 and Hellraiser: Hellworld. Blue has a ton of great films like Salems's Lot, Jaws, The Thing, the first two Hellraisers(the only good ones), Aliens, Dead&Buried(underrated film) and the best of the Romero zombie films(Day of the Dead), fricking Psycho, and a lot of good, but not great films. Red and yellow seem pretty evenly matched.
Purple
You're kidding right? That's the weakest of them.
Bite was such a dogshit movie I fricking swear. The director probably accidentally ordered 1000 packs of those gel orbs and decided to make a movie around that
ohh Night Breed, there is an old horror nobody every talks about, watched that when i was a kid.
My life tbh
hey fellas,
just droppin in to hope you a good friday evening. watch a spooky movie, burn a little herb, have a little sip, sit back and relax.
keep it real guys,
Dave.
spookymoviedave!? i love your movies
It Follows was pretty good
The original A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Event Horizon is the best horror film ever made.
I wouldn't go that far, but it is pretty dam awesome.
No it's not, you're delusional. The story is not that good, the effects have aged horribly, and the film was apparently butchered in postproduction.
if you haven't seen it worth a watch
very good and underrated
That kill was too good for that movie
Here are a few of my favorites and what subgenres they are
Perfect Blue (psychological thriller)
The Wailing (psychological thriller mystery)
Creep 1&2 (found footage)
Sinister (supernatural mystery)
Sleepaway Camp (whodunit slasher)
Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer (crime thriller)
Dolls (killer dolls)
The Bay (man vs nature found footage)
Southbound (anthology)
[REC] 1&2 (found footage "zombie")
Shutter (supernatural)
Nightmare on Elm Street 2 (gay teen slasher)
Sleep away camp is such kino, even 2 and 3 are great
Some kino picks, especially Henry
Entirely based
Add Behind the Mask : The Rise of Leslie Vernon and you have a perfect list
Adding these that I forgot before:
>The Autopsy of Jane Doe
Supernatural thriller set in a coroner's office, starring Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch who are both really good actors. Very spooky.
>Crawl
Very fun movie about a girl and her father trapped during a hurricane, and there are lots and lots of alligators. The premise may sound simple but it's actually really good.
Kot blini
recommend me some blini based films
Pet semetary
Underrated flick. Will scare the bejeepers out of you.
Probably the scariest adaptation of a King novel
Children of the corn felt more unsettling than gage slicing tendons
I like erotic horror. I want to be scared and turned on at the same time.
Any recs?
based leelaposter
Return of the living dead (for THAT scene)
Splice (for THAT scene)
Was that the one with the fog that infected people?
>Was that the one with the fog that infected people?
Yes
I don't know, i enjoyed it
I liked the jellyfish scene and the dude just disappearing into the ocean, but I didn't like the characters and I feel like it went downhill after they left the house
what is this?
why do people keep posting gifs without the title of the movie
2007 The Mist.
Stepford Wives is pretty good. Didn't know it was supposed to be a horror movie as a kid. Thought the leads were the villains for ruining a good thing
Have you seen Videodrome?
Yes, I'll be honest I didn't really care for it. Practical effects were kino though
Isn't event horizon technically biblical horror not cosmic? They literally go to hell
I mean they are literally in space anon
everything to ever exist is in space, every movie is a space movie
Well that's pretty disingenuous and untrue isn't it? Most horror movies are set on Earth, and though our planet may be in orbit in space, the characters who occupy the film are not.

Many people on reddit have a PhD, why are you shaming them?
there is no good horror movies. it's on the bottom tier of movie genre tier list. it's all schlock.
i've seen about 300 horror movies and i don't like most of them
hostel's pretty decent
Is The Ruins considered a cosmic horror?
Send....more....posts
how did they do these effects?
i don't know ,but i'm betting they are melting it with heat and reversing the clip
Summoned an actual tortured soul from hell
In the Mouth of Madness is a ride, really good film.
Lake Mungo
Also, I remember the show Kingdom Hospital scaring the shit out of me when I was a kid.
Also some movie I remember seeing on TV a long time ago, maybe 2008. It was set a hospital I think and a Demon was trying to get a woman's baby or some shit. I remember it using a crossbow or something to kill people. No clue as to the name, though.
>lake soigo
Kek, only scary part was the realization that even little girls are massive prostitutes
This movie sucked.
what movie
