I've unironically been to Paris. It's a fantastic city. Heavily romanticised of course and parts of it are ugly but its history and grandeur is unmatched except by very few cities.
Midnight in Paris is a good movie as is Before Sunset. Those kind of give you that romanticised Paris while not being from the 1940s/1950s.
As Above So Below, The Bourne Identity, Les Miserables, Ratatouille, Funny Face and From Paris With Love are also worth a watch if they sound interesting to you.
Also Paris is one of those cities where the ugliness will either turn you off completely or make you fall in love with it more. It's the same deal with Athens; absolutely dirty, grimy place but it's x10 more comfy than any super modern clean cookie cutter city.
