He's a bit of a Mary Sue. Also a bit of a cuck. But, I don't know, I just like him is all. Schisms is a good ep, one of the few where he gets out of his comfort zone.
>Mary Sue
He's more a jack of all trades, master of none. He's often there just asking questions for the benefit of the audience.
The only OP talents he has is kirk-lite frickability and good manual piloting mentioned once as a way to resolve the two part chain of command plotline
The Icarus Factor, because of his relationship to his father
Peak Performance, because it highligts his qualities as Commander
The Best Of Both Worlds because it's the first time that he gets rattled by someone else (Shelby)
Frame Of Mind
>The Icarus Factor, because of his relationship to his father
Funny because I disliked the Riker bits of that episode and kept wanting to switch back to the comfy Worf shenanigans.
I notice that a lot of season 2 episodes probably started as generic 80s sitcom scripts that were dug out of a Paramount storage closet because of the writer's strike.
Because of the end of ENT and his production/writing/directing credits. But if you were a first run kid in the nineties Riker or geordi were your self inserts (Wesley too but no one wants to admit it)
>your self inserts (Wesley too but no one wants to admit it)
First run geezer here. The "whiz kid," for some reason often in a wheelchair, was a major trope for a while. There was one on every ensemble cast. Wesley was just late stage whiz kid trope, which was finally put to bed[*] with that show Doogie Howser putting the kid front and center.
[*] until the I AM A SURGEON kid
My generation had Wheels. Yes, his name was Wheels. BK Kids Club oldheads know what I'm talking about. TBF they also had the genius kid (IQ) but he was a fricking nerd and back then it was nerd smashing time so Wheels outranked him. Maybe a reboot of TNG with the BK Kids is in order.
Remember that time riker went to that alien planet that had all gender neutral aliens and one of them fell in love with him so hard it became a woman just to be with him?
Or that time he got caught trying to make first contact and that nurse at the hospital wanted to help him so he had to frick his way out of there
He got to frick prime Carol Kane, which is boss. Problem with Riker is he got too comfy and drifted the whole series. They retcon at the end he becomes a commander of his own ship but even in TNG other characters were like, hey maybe less sex vacations and flirting on Ten Forward and maybe focus up.
Fun fact, the production crew were tossing around the idea of killing off Picard and promoting Riker since Stewart's contract was up for renewal. We could have had four seasons of Captain Riker and Commander Shelby. Probably would have gone over well with everyone since Patrick Stewart was such a stick in the mud SERIOUS ACTOR compared to his more fun-loving costars. But he took the stick out of his ass, decided to renew his contract, and the rest is history. I'm not saying Captain Riker would have made a better show, but I do often think about what could have been.
That makes sense why his character just kind of drifts for the second half of the series. Guy plays a fricking trombone and gets cucked by Worf eventually. The writers just couldn't do much with him but keep him in stasis as a functionary character without threatening to disrupt the balance of the show, and the character flagged as a result.
He doesn't, unless you count griping that his development completely stopped after Best of Both Worlds or people pointing out instances of him being a dick (but still loving him).
>Riker gets the assignment to be prosecutor >He reluctantly agrees >Fast forward >"Pinocchio's broken. His strings have been cut."
That's a guy who doesn't half-ass things
The judge lady told him in no uncertain terms that if she thought he was half-assing she'd rule summarily against Data. Don't get why Maddox couldn't just represent himself, but it did make for good drama.
Yeah I love how guilt ridden he was having to testify against his dear friend. The ending is so poignant too. With Data consoling Riker as best as he could. You don't get heartfelt moments like that anymore.
not a riker episode but I always loved the one where picard goes on vacation and riker asks him to buy a souvenir that communicates you want to get laid
>riker >geordi >crusher
When did you realize that Troi had more character development than these characters simply because she had that one mini arc about qualifying for temp command?
>Data a quest to become human >Geordi a quest to overcome inceldom >Riker
Riker was just a cool guy along for the ride. His arc was to find a reason to not be a captain
If they do remake it it'll be even more pozzed than the Picard show. Guinan would be a main character who is never wrong. Riker would be having constant one night stands with men. Data would be a genderless blob. Do you really hate TNG that much to want that to happen?

It would have been very strange to see TNG split into the Picard and Riker eras. While Captain Riker possibly would have made for some banger storylines, I'm glad that never happened.
He always seemed like a VP pick to me. Like how Trump wasn't religious enough, so they had to pair him with Pence. Or how Biden's to old and white, so they had to give him a strong bipoc womyn. Picard was a departure from Kirk, so they had to give him a somewhat Kirkish number two.
I like him though.
My favourite one is Matter of Perspective. It’s funny that they leave it ambiguous on whether or not he tried to rape the guys wife or it was consensual
that's because it's completely unbelievable that this moron is the first officer of the federation flagship. I love him though, the show would be dry as frick with two Picards
Riker is the worst character out of star trek. A typical charismatic normalgay who sees people as supplements to his ego. It is no surprise he was so disturbed over Barclay Riker wanted him transferred off the enterprise.
Also, his attitude towards Shelby was immature and unprofessional.
He's a bit of a Mary Sue. Also a bit of a cuck. But, I don't know, I just like him is all. Schisms is a good ep, one of the few where he gets out of his comfort zone.

The Icarus Factor, because of his relationship to his father
Peak Performance, because it highligts his qualities as Commander
The Best Of Both Worlds because it's the first time that he gets rattled by someone else (Shelby)
Frame Of Mind
this, specially frame of mind
i also enjoyed 11001001 (binars episode)
Excellent choices
for me its the one with the vape aliens and riker gets to be klingon for a day as part of their exchange program

shades of grey is underrated
I heard he does the gay chair thing because it hurts his back
Engage!
>he seems to get hate around Trekkie circles.
And you care what Trekkies think why exactly?
>And you care what Trekkies think why exactly?
this, those frickers are deranged, they love the nu trek shit too
>they love the nu trek shit
No, P+ shills are paid to pretend to love nuTrek. They call real trekkies geezers and mallwalkers

Who wins in a fist fight, Thomas Riker or William Riker?
tom would beat the shit out of will. wouldnt even be close.
Any of the ones where he interacts with Worf.
I think he should lay off the gagh
Remember that time riker went to that alien planet that had all gender neutral aliens and one of them fell in love with him so hard it became a woman just to be with him?

I don’t buy that crap. You can make storylines that don’t involve a promotion. Frick your stupid rlm narrative.
Lighten up, Francis. Just talkin' Trek.
this chick that sucked my dick in high school used to think of me as something of a riker
is this good or bad, I've never watched the show
I'm a fan of Riker but I'd say his best "episode" is picrel.. I always watch it after TNG. Peak comfy.
>he seems to get hate around Trekkie circles.
Untrue. We made it up.
For me it’s A Matter of Honor. And of course tell me about your sexual organs.
>And of course tell me about your sexual organs.
One, or both?
Riker just having bants with the klingons at dinner was a a great scene.
>he seems to get hate around Trekkie circles.
He doesn't, unless you count griping that his development completely stopped after Best of Both Worlds or people pointing out instances of him being a dick (but still loving him).
"Measure of a man" is the best Riker even though he is the b plot
agreed he played an honest lawyer
And a good friend
>Riker gets the assignment to be prosecutor
>He reluctantly agrees
>Fast forward
>"Pinocchio's broken. His strings have been cut."

>What are the best Riker episodes?
Best of Both Worlds 1 and 2 obviously. Its the peak for his character that he was never ever to match for the rest of the series.
I only wish I could grow a beard like that.
>but where did Q get the babes?
Babelon Five
keep em cuming
That’s photo not real… right?
>Riker doesn’t want fantasy women
>Frequents Risa
He actually says that he doesn't NEED them. He gets enough on his own
>riker
>geordi
>crusher

Any chance they'll remake TNG like they did Star Trek (2009)? I'd make an excellent casted Riker ngl
If they do remake it it'll be even more pozzed than the Picard show. Guinan would be a main character who is never wrong. Riker would be having constant one night stands with men. Data would be a genderless blob. Do you really hate TNG that much to want that to happen?

I rewatched Civil Defense today. Early DS9 is so superior to the later seasons it’s depressing.
It’s definitely comfier, I wouldn’t say better
The exchange program one with the klingons is my favorite tng episode. One of the few that doesnt have gay shit.
TOS>>>>>>>>>TNG
seen any of the rest because they probably suck
TNG<DS9<OST<<<<<<<Voyager<ENT<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Lower Decks<<<<<<<<everything that's ever existed in the universe<<<<<Discovery
TNG has Troi and Wesley, 2 characters that ruin every episode they have more than 2 lines in. TNG a shit
Troi is hot dough
Computer, turn the holodeck safeties off.
Barclay is great in TNG, but his Voyager episodes are all 10/10.
the mallwalkers lament
You like Discovery that much?
Riker is the worst character out of star trek. A typical charismatic normalgay who sees people as supplements to his ego. It is no surprise he was so disturbed over Barclay Riker wanted him transferred off the enterprise.
Also, his attitude towards Shelby was immature and unprofessional.
Lockdown Riker was the best Riker
I like the one where he tries to frick a FtM sexless boy
