I think that it's great to talk about. I do not like the use of religion as propaganda, however I like to watch even those kinds of cartoons because it gives me more insight into what kinds of things certain people think are important. I think there is too much Christian influence in western media, but it can't be helped since there isn't enough information that can be easily consumed in English about other cultures. I think the west only can write on a superficial level other cultures, and are too afraid to try and dive deeper into fully understanding others beliefs to write it with more thought.
Outside of specific American denominations preaching and selling to themselves media made in the first world (and the Anglosphere especially) is an almost entirely secular enterprise. It's been at least 30 years since a church has had major sway in the way media is made. Mostly this is due to the decline of mainline churches in general. The only churches still growing or maintaining their congregations tend to be isolated and extreme and thus have little influence on pop culture aside from being an easy target. I'm a moderately conservative Canadian Anglican so most of the people I see at church have grandchildren. The younger adults who shape contemporary culture see religion, and Christianity in particular as a boogeyman.
Personally I think religion is an excellent framework to build stories around and some of the best classic Simpsons episodes are the ones that touch on issues of faith. If Christianity were to make a comeback in media it would need to acknowledge people's current relationship to faith and how people tend not to distinguish between what a religion is and what it's most publicized members/groups are. A good example of how people see Christians is to look at the news. The news never mentions political or religious affiliations when ousting a sexual predator among liberal circles but when a Christian commits a sex crime and hides behind their authority like any other predator in power Christians in general get thrown under the bus.
God, The Devil and Bob gave it a shot and people killed it for doing so
People watch entertainment to be ENTERTAINED, not to hear a sermon. Even as a Christian, I recognize that people who wanna "hear the faith" ought to go to an actual sermon at the church instead of putting it into kids' entertainment. Want to make a Christian show? Better add in Christian themes subtly so that parents and their children can discuss. And if you have to brand it a Christian show like Butch did, you come off across as a grifter using Christianity as a skinsuit to sell your product
On the other side of the spectrum, there are large amounts of anti-Christians (not atheists/irreligious) who will happily complain about a character in an 80s cartoon praying on Thanksgiving but at the same time complain there aren't enough homosexuals on TV. Not to invite the /misc/ arguments but as a whole American culture (especially in media/Hollywood) is openly anti-Christian to the point you gotta go indie if you want a Christian show
It's always far far far far far more boringer than the source material. It's a travesty. If animators actually ANIMATED half of that bonkers shit religious animation would be the hottest shit around. Jehovah is a badass because he nukes cities and floods continents. Not because he makes me brush my teeth or bullshit my way through fricking Sunday school.
Coming from an agnostic, anyway. Bare minimum it has to be cool. May as well make it accurate because the more accurate your nonsense about Kali is the cooler it will look animated.
I love how you can tell some secular media really wants to have Muslims for diversity points but can't risk them acting religious for some reason so as a result you just get girls in hijabs that act like any other girl.
no, bad shows can have good threads, some of the most fun I had were posting with anons shitting on bad media.
Based based based based based I love Flannery O’Connor based based based based based
She should be canonized. It’s a genuine shame that devotions to prospective saints are pretty rare outside of extremely Catholic countries like Italy or Poland. I hope someday I can attend mass at the Church of St. Flannery O’Connor.
Anons if you are interested in reading books for a bit read the Complete Stories of Flannery O’Connor, Wise Blood and The Violent Bear It Away.

TLDR yes put more christian girls in cartoons so I can fetishize them

Religious mythology? Based.
Religious overtones? Cringe
Man why do all Circus threads suck?
>Bad show
>Bad threads
Is it really so hard to understand this correlation?

because it’s all your fault
Non-demonimaitonal deism is all over the place, and I love it.
it's a necessity lest we fall into the absence of it and become revolting, deranged, and rightfully despised diaper scat gooners
Boring usually, but veggietales is a pass
I think it'd be pretty cool to have an adult/mature cartoon that picked a religion and took it seriously in ways that were relevant to the plot.
Like, Catholicism has produced some of the greatest fiction and poetry ever created, why can't it also generate a great cartoon?

Fantasy in cartoons? I'm not against it
Here’s your Reddit gold kind sir
have a nice day
Snowflake Day > All Religious Holidays.
A roman would probably murder you for saying this
>Romans
>Can I copy your homework?
>Greeks
>Sure, just don't start a crusade.
>he doesn't know the hellenization started after rome became their overlord
Lol lmao
I don't like seeing religion referenced/mentioned in kids show, it's very lame.
>t. a man who censors "Oh My God"
