It's very good, this year's best horror
FPBP
this movie was great, but the brother character wasn't well utilized
This is I think one of the only legit criticisms I have heard about it, the brothers entire purpose in the movie was to be a laughable schizo and then get axed in the head, didn't really fit at all with the tone of the film. I'm also not sure it's physically possible for the main kid to have broken a grown mans neck the way he did.
i get what they were going for, but it seemed too over the top
this dude is snorting crank and making this chart to track the killer - and he doesn't ever check his own fricking basement, because that would somehow be the crazy thing - and then he just gets killed point blank.
if it were me writing this stuff, - there's two houses right? why not have one brother be in the other house watching over it, that way we avoid the elephant in the room - dude's brother sits in the fricking kitchen staring at the basement door, and it's somehow not the biggest giveaway beyond tracking down the possible locations to be in the vicinity of his own house.
Ethan Hawke elevated an alright movie into "pretty good" territory. I think it's OK but benefitting immensely from the fact that this year has been shitty for movies in general.
frick no it hasn't, in 2022 we got batman, dr strange, firestarter, lightyear, northman, sonic 2, X, everywhere at once, memory, blacklight, green lantern, deep water, ambulance, and we are only halfway through the year
Those are all horrible...
ok homosexual
kys
Get better bait.
i posted like a dozen movies, why are you even in this subreddit if you hate cinema?
Yo what movie is this holy shit
The Man From Acapulco (Le Magnifique)
Thank you!
It was alright, just kinda cheesy, very bad color/lighting, cute e-girl girl, Ethan Hawke was great, too much cussing to try and be cool. Will probably never watch it again.
cute boy, too
you could watch it just for the boy
The concept of a kid getting kidnapped by this crazy guy is, at least for me, the scariest type of horror movie story and this did a lot right. If you cut out the brother and the supernatural stuff it would be one of the best horror movies ever.
> If you cut out the brother and the supernatural stuff
In this case there would be no movie at all
I sometimes can't watch this but they did a pretty good job at not making it uncomfortable as hell in this movie by making the kids act as fighters and not just helpless victims. another one I can't stomach are crazy kids like Eden Lake
THe kids in Eden lake are not crazy
they are just English
hawke was great, the kids were great, the char development was great. horror elements is kinda non existent and purist would shit on it but horror purist can go kill themselves.
I was pleasantly surprised, very good horror movie. Ethan Hawke was great in his role.
the poster is better than the movie
it sucked
havent seen it
It's a very good movie
It somehow crams a lot of feel-good energy in to a horrific narrative; telling the kids their names made me really happy. I like that the villain had to be pretty reactive throughout it and the whole "he doesn't believe in the black phone" angle which I think is a metaphor for being religion
After watching I felt it would have been a great movie to watch behind your parents back at a sleepover with the boys as a 12 years old.
moronic ending
strangling was kinda moronic compared to just splitting his head open with the toilet cistern lid but I get that the whole atmosphere they were aiming for was not brutality even though it's about a child murderer
>several kids go Missing in a small town and no one seems very concerned, kids are still walking around by themselves business as usual
>Nobody notices le spoopy magician man with a black rape van driving around
>Nobody even bothers coming outside when a kid is running down the street screaming in the middle of the night
>For some reason the cops believe le bad ass sisters dreams will help them catch the grabber(stupid fricking name)
>"Ethan Hawk is a crazy evil spoopy killer because...WELL HE JUST IS OK?"
>Le spooky mask
II don't mind slower or understated movies but this movie is just plain stupid. And poorly made. The kids except the brother and sister were pretty terrible. There was no suspense because there was zero chance the kid wasn't making it out of the basement, and the grabber came off more whimsical than scary.
Autizmo take
>several kids go Missing in a small town and no one seems very concerned, kids are still walking around by themselves business as usual
It was the 80s
Ok So nobody cares kids are missing but the cops are so invested they consult a little girl about her dreams to try to solve the case? Doesn't make a lot of sense.

I thought the mask with interchangeable parts was very well done. Good movie over all.
I liked it a lot, surprised me by being more a thriller than a horror and having a lot more heart than expected.
Anyone notice how terrible the acting was in the bathroom scene early on though? It's bizarre how much worse that scene feels vs. the rest of the film and I don't even know why that would be. Double Toasted's review made the same observation.
too redpilled for twitter
its for predditors. The dialog for the little girl is rob zombie tier. I like the lack of explanation on the supernatural elements and such it means the movie is deep and thought provoking. The killer wears a mask and has black balloons! Very cool.
I enjoyed it more than i thought i don't,it was actually smart of them not to explain his motives or anything regarding his origin,we don't need a backstory for everything.
Glad i didn't watch the trailer cause these motherfrickers gave everything away.
I was disappointed that it wasn't set in 2022 and the ghosts didn't need to just teach the kid how to use a rotary dial to escape for 90 minutes.
Derrickson just cant help himself but show stupid kid ghosts in le scary makeup... frick up sinister exactly the same way.
it's more thriller than horror
pretty good, idk if the 9 minute rape scene was necessary
It was ok, i enjoyed. But somehow i was hopping for a time travler or dimensional plot, or some cosmic horror intrigue. I was a little bit disapointed with the ghost story, not my thing.
