What did Dwayne do to piss off James Gunn and WBD so much that they kept smearing him in the media after Black Adam came out?

What did Dwayne do to piss off James Gunn and WBD so much that they kept smearing him in the media after Black Adam came out? Was it all because it flopped?

Dwayne is an insane egotistical narcissist

He was lying about box office and illegally leaked false details about internal plans.

I mean he's The Rock, he can't be blacklisted.

      This.

He also went to the WB head and tried to throw his weight around.

Apparently not the right ones. Was plan right now is firing everyone and give the execs bonuses.

He hyped up Black Adam to be bigger than Avengers Endgame.

i respect he did that tho. he has better instincts than the morons that he was working for. i respect he got cavill back. alas, all for naught....

WB executives deserved it. They clearly had no idea what they were doing.

The reason why this was a big no no is because of stock value and the negotiations with Discovery

How does someone who has spent decades in Hollywood make this mistake?

In case you havent seen his films, Rock only knows one way to act.

because he spent those decades trying to make this and it was terrible. Ironically in-between the decade it took to make this he became an action-comedy draw and didn't even need this now.

Well wait, if they were false details then what was illegal? He never actually said anything sensitive.

NTA but that is indeed illegal, especially when two companies are in talks to merge. See by lying or at least exaggerating the profits of the film, Dwayne is feeding false data into the investment market. If a film is doing exceptionally well, WB’s stock value goes up. This would be like me buying up a shit ton of Universal stock because someone told me Dracula Untold was doing well, and the Monsterverse is a go

He revealed the stuff WB was going to fudge the numbers on to not scare shareholders. Now they have to come clean with what's really going on instead of tiding them over with false numbers until they can come up with plans to remedy them.

This. Not to mention the shit he started by pushing Cavill back as Superman knowing full well that was going against the plans being laid by WB and Gunn. A little off topic but can someone explain to me if there was any sort of comic book precedent of this huge rivalry Mr Rock was pushing between Black Adam and Superman? I know frick all about Black Adam but have devoted a large chunk of my life to Superman and as far as I know they’ve met, like, twice in the comics

Basically Dwayne tried to push out SHAZAM, and create another moronic wrestling match plot to inflate the character’s importance. The display is now the equivalent of SONY Morbius/Sinister Six failure

There's very little outside of them having similar power sets and personalities that absolutely would clash if they met more. This is in no small part because Captain Marvel took some influence from Superman and did some influencing of its own.
But yeah, Black Adam isn't a Superman baddie. Rock was just trying to get some heat going.

It was very much him trying to channel WWE fabricated rivalry, not realizing this shit isn’t just made up on the fly

The Rock decided he was going to singlehandedly save the DCEU by putting himself as Black Adam front-and-center, and decided he would kick Superman out of that role by having Black Adam literally kick Superman's ass onscreen. The ego on this dude is insane.

He was already hired to work on Superman Legacy when they filmed the Cavill cameo.

Gunn got hired to write the script for what would become Superman Legacy well before he became king of DC movies and well before Cavill filmed his Black Adam cameo.

It's literally just the Rock, iirc before Black Adam he wanted to play John Stewart and still fight the Superman

imagine if they made a bizarro movie without superman because jason statham was SUPER into bizarro and then wanted to make a sequel all about bizarro fighting captain atom for some reason

the characters black adam and superman have nothing to do with each other ; superman would fold black adam immediately in the comics

but in reality, the rock and henry cavil HAD the same agent - conveniently the rocks ex wife dani - who all three put together the end credits scene and pushed for henry to keep his role as superman with planted internet hype about them fighting. the fallout from all the bad business caused henry to fire dani and distance himself from the Rock

    >Hey Gunn, why do you keep bringing that kid dressed like Harley Quinn to the set? And why does it look like a different kid every few days? And why are they always on a leash? I can get it was a one time joke but that was a while ago, man.

its because 1. the rock does kinda suck 2. the rock is a big manly man and thats a big no no in hollywood anymore, going forward all male actors will be like tom holland and timothy chalamet, you will no longer see big ass dudes, the rock, henry cavil, terry crews, arnold swarzenegger. they know that everyone rags on small blond white women beating up big ass dudes, and they cant easily reconcile that, so they need to make all male actors short skinny manlets to bring it into parity

There's more to Henry and Arnold that just manly stuff. They're good at it but it doesn't just define them.

I usually like the guy but he seems like the aggressor here. He was being way too defensive about the perceived performance of this movie to the point where he was speaking out of term and leaking shit.
His attitude felt more like a insecure fanboy than someone actually involved in a project.

Probably the amount of pissing and whining posts on Twatter dressed up in fake comradery & insincere positivity. I mean, it was just a bland, bad movie like 99% of his films and you'd think he wouldn't care by now but he's come across as such a complete tool over it.

Gunn's been in the business forever and knows a bullshitter when he meets them. Rock also has those weird clauses where he can't be shown being beaten up in a film or, if he is punched, he always wins. Gunn probably looked through that and said frick off.

See the dumb thing is that a Black Adam movie CAN work, it's just
    >You don't pretend he's a hero or a good person
    >You don't act like he can carry his own franchise
    >You don't actively ignore and outright retcon Shazam's movie
