It’s one of my favourite sci fis ever and I normally am not inclined the newer more polished sci fi movies. Known cast was probably the worst thing (apart from cruise, mainly freedman was too distracting)
One of the best OS ever made though

I would have like a bit more Tet, it is good film though. Fun Scifi

Yeah same. Especially since the tet was actually pretty cool when we did get to see it. Mass effect vibes

I didn't like the twist. I thought the original storyline was much more interesting.
The twist felt like something you'd make up to save on production costs

      Anonymous

Yeah fair point but the antagonists would be predictable humanoid aliens yet again. The twist made it more realistic. If there was anything powerful enough to travel space and harvest energy from planets it wouldn't be sending organic life. It would be some kind of self aware AI. Using the victim planets life forms as DNA fodder is genius.

Reacher was fine. The main problem with it was if you knew the source material Cruise wasn't an appropriate casting. If you were ignorant of the source material it's a perfectly good action/detective flick.

I really like it, even if the story is a bit weak and other than the original trio of Melissa Leo, Andrea Riseborough and Tom Cruise some of the acting is a bit sus.

Amazing visuals, aesthetic design choices, sound design.

And the soundtrack by M83 and Joe Trapanese (who also worked with Daft Punk on the Tron Legacy soundtrack) is brilliant, one of my favourite ever.

Ad Astra was great too but not as good as even Oblivion.
Ad Astra was like a remake of Interstellar 2014 but not as gay.

          Anonymous

Yeah what’s funny is that Ad Astra are both as unrealistic; difference is Ad Astra is actually making an effort to make space weird and otherworldly while Interstellar tried hard but fails and ends up worse for it. At least the original Interstellar was original in that sense.

Based on the poster it appears very generic so I don't blame people for passing it up. It's a fun little romp though. It's nothing outstanding but it never gives the impression it was trying to be. Not like MI:II. I rewatched the first 3 MI movies the other day for the first time since their releases and I don't remember the second one being such a fricking turd. All of the John Woo trademarks with none of the soul.

Mission: Impossible 2 is really, really bad but people here inexplicably love to defend it, I can only assume because they only remember the dueling motorcycles and forget how fricking boring everything leading up to that scene is. I challenge anyone who has actually watched the movie recently to tell me with a straight face that it's good or even entertaining.

I don't really care about the story but the setting, visuals and audio were great, it's an enjoyable 7/10 viewing, people made it out to be absolutely unwatchable back then but looking at the sci-fi movies today it's even better as there's nothing even half as good today, I would even say it's the last sci-fi movie of worth.

I remember a lot of people shit talking it but I have no idea why, I always thought it was an enjoyable solid film. But yeah I've seen some people say things like "we didn't know how good we had it back then" in regards to modern culture etc. so maybe that's part of why many people changed their minds about it, in which case maybe they didn't hate it as much as they pretended to.

There was a trend in the early 2010s where sci Fi movies got relentlessly shat on if they were anything less than great. This, Prometheus, Avatar, Kelvin Trek, and Elysium were all hated by movie/sci Fi nerds despite the worst of those movies being okay at worst.

          Anonymous

Yeah I agree with that, they weren't terrible but they didn't need to be great for me to like them either, as for those Prometheus was a decent and enjoyable film, Alien Covenant was the one that shat the bed big time imo. I even warmed to Kelvin Trek a bit but it really shouldn't have gotten any sequels because it feels like it really overstayed it's welcome. It's never felt like the quality of sci-fi TV and films has ever really changed over the years to me, we seem to get a real mix of stuff, some great and some shit like new Star Trek. Getting into the trend of nitpicking things until there's nothing left leads you to not being able to appreciate anything, it's good for people to remind themselves of this especially now.

I can't say I'd give a frick if either were wiped out of existence but Prometheus wasn't anywhere near as irredeemably shit as some people here act like it is, that's just the effect of Alien Covenant being utter trash that it ruins any chance of redeeming the series.
