Season five flanderized all the characters and lost the endless summer ambience of the show.
The show got flanderized real early on. Ed used to be just a meathead who was sensible in the first season, but then he got downgraded to mentally moronic for 95% of his dialogue later on.
>those designs
seconding this, hate these ugly super-deformed "le wacky 90s" designs
Found the zoomers.
Don't lump us in with that chode. Zoomers love Ed Edd N Eddy.
Who actually dislikes Ed, Edd n Eddy?
Oh. Okay. 😛
Soulless
We're not gonna get a show that has such a unique show specific style again
>posts an image from a garbage reboot
No proper season 6.
Any episode that spends the entire time shitting on eddy when he hasn't done anything in the episode to deserve it in the first place.
He has a reputation for being a sleazy scam artist, why would you be shocked that others catch on and hate him?
I mostly agree. But the episode where Kevin kept ruining Eddy's school photograph was over the line.
>But the episode where Kevin kept ruining Eddy's school photograph was over the line.
Hated that episode. Still do. Legit the only time Eddy did nothing wrong
>inb4 the middle name episode
That one ended with Eddy screwing Double D over, flushing whatever sympathy you had with him that time down the toilet.
the show really needed more episodes where it ended with a definitive win for the Eds, show was hilarious but sometimes it could be a bit of a buzzkill watching more than maybe two episodes in a row since most of them ended with failure for them(Johnny Bravo and to a lesser degree Dexter's Lab kind of had similar problems in that area)
>But the episode where Kevin kept ruining Eddy's school photograph was over the line.
>Hated that episode. Still do. Legit the only time Eddy did nothing wrong
it's kind of telling that episode is the one episode in the entire series that Danny Antonucci didn't direct himself and is probably the worst episode in the show
I see what you mean but on the other hand I don’t think that one episode in the final season that ends with Eddy standing up for Edd and telling everyone to just frick off for once would have been nearly as satisfying. Would have made a cute finale if we never got the movie.
Yeah Dexter and Johnny seemed to suffer every episode really. I know its all for comedy sake but it would be nice if they won at times.
They have their wins sometimes.
The Kankers.
When they stopped getting jawbreakers.
The school based episodes were not that great, tbh. I liked it better when they had their misadventures in their neighborhood. Maybe, if it switched between the school and neighborhood I would like it better, but the school seemed at a totally different location far from where they lived.
not to mention it makes absolutely no sense to continue to only have the small cast in a busy public school. I know other kids and teachers are referred to, and in the end it was a good idea for them to not introduce new kids at the school, but all in all it was really just pointless to ever even try doing that school stuff.
As a kid I really liked when they made a plane to escape school. Really liked the jailbreak vibe to it.
that's the only school episode i can remember from this show... i guess there were a lot more of them?
a quiet setting where you only interact with six different people you already know sounds like the dream for my autistic brain
Yeah, like when Eddy started printing fake news.
The episode where a science experiment went wrong and Double D and the Blonde Kanker were lovers and the Blue Kanker Sister got unironically KEKED.
That's not how that happened.
t. Marie
Watch it again and you'll see why that summary was wrong.
>lovers
That's a strange way of spelling inebriated.
Season 5 still had some episodes in the cul de sac, like the one where Ed took care of Rolf's farm animals.
>what did you not like
Nothing? I'm not that picky, and loved every episode as a kid and when I rewatched it a few years back.
That music cue that happens every time Double D speaks around season 4
>doooo doo-doo doo doo doo dooooo
What?
Eddy in the later seasons, he became frustratingly stupid and was practically looking for an opportunity to throw Ed and Double-D under a bus for his own benefit. I'm not saying he was a paragon before, but it was better balanced before.
I also didn't like how much recycled audio they used in the later seasons, it never sounded right.
The later seasons kinda took a dive in quality, though it handled seasonal rot better than other shows imo. Plus, the movie was good.
I rewatched it all last year and I loved it. The only thing that bothered me is that Eddy didn't really stand up to his brother at the end, he just won the confrontation through silliness.
This homosexual.
yeah, a lot of characters become bigger buttholes than they already were, but this show made me homophobic
Nothing.
I didn't like how Double D became such an extreme moralgay in the later seasons to the extent that he started actively working against Ed and Eddy
Sarah, but I guess this is common everyone hating this b***h.
Certain things only being in one episode and never returning or getting brought up again.
like what
Some of Edd's inventions
Some of Rolf's animals
Jonny's house
Plank's family
The sewer
The boomerang
Giant Kankers
>Some of Edd's inventions
>Some of Rolf's animals
Which ones
>Plank's family
I loved that bit
The spy gear, the working Thingamajig, and Rolf has rabbits and sheep that don't show up often. And Bobo.
Isn't there a scene where Double D just keeps all the failed inventions in his basement?
Eddy’s voice makes me want to shoot a dog
EVERY SINGLE MISSILE HIT THE TARGET
ugly art
It has a handful of kind of mediocre episodes, especially around season 5. I love it though.
I was an adult and felt like I felt like I was too old for it. That's it really.
I love them all. I have a Plank tattoo on my leg
not enough episodes of the Eds messing around as friends, it's why I really like season 1
Someone getting beat up with farm animal sound effects were most of the jokes.
Unironically not a single bad thing about this show. Entire run is great beginning to end, school seasons included. I think they were kinda lazy with random Kanker endings sometimes but it's not a big deal to me.
Season 5 hate is weird to me, it produced a lot of great episodes (like pic related), kept the expressions as expressive & funny as ever and it was still entertaining.
>Season 5
Too much gay ass crying in that season and in the movie. No surprise whoever was responsible for that shit (forgot her name) later worked on Steven Universe
I don't remember a lot of Steven Universe tier crying in the later run and whenever it does happen I think it definitely earned it (A Fistful of Ed & Big Picture Show are both fantastic, they give the characters depth while still maintaining the spirit of the show, which I imagine wasn't an easy task)
I don't think it's inherently a bad thing they had to introduce a new setting to get some fresh ideas. If it felt like a different show I would agree, but it still felt like Ed, Edd n Eddy.
Something I forgot to mention earlier is that season 5 was also the first season where they did digital ink and paint and I greatly respect how seamless the transition was and that they never used it as an excuse to get lazy with the animation.
Season 5 is a step down from the rest just from their admission that they had to change the setting to keep going, but it's still great. I respect they made that small compromise instead of trying to add new characters or something. The flanderization arguments have merit, but at the same time the show was actively working toward the Eds' development that culminated in the movie. It's different, but still the same show and still top tier.
Didn't like how the Eds acted in season 5. Ed wasn't even the funny kind of dumb anymore, he just spewed non-sequitur, and just just felt like a lost puppy around the other Eds. Double D got a little too much focus and spent a lot of time being against whatever Ed and Eddy were doing, to point it makes you wonder why he was even friends with them. Eddy was just constantly angry and yelling every time he spoke and seemed to have become almost as dumb as Ed.
Looking back now, it can honestly be too noisy for it's own good. But it's minor. Still one of the greatest cartoons of it's era.
it looks like shit
today this would be paired with big mouth as one of the ugliest animated shows.
I can't really think of a lot. Sarah was annoying, Kankers got away with their shit, but those aren't really egregious. I even like the later seasons. The Halloween and Christmas specials were great
Eddy changing from a smooth-talking heckler who had a temper but cared for his friends to a screeching autist who constantly threw them under the bus
Double D edging dangerously close to Mary Sue territory by the series' end(straight-A student, all the girls crushed on him at least once, hardly ever took part in scams, occassionally teamed up with the other kids to screw the other Eds over, etc.)
...that's about it really, and the movie makes both those points irrelevant
all the female characters being either boring(Nazz) or insufferable(Sarah and the Kankers)
Sounds about right
Eh, I thought Dexter was better
Buttered toast.
The surrealist isolation of the cul-de-sac. It's a quirk of the cartoon that my autistic child mind didn't like much
I really liked the ending
Me too, senpai 🙂
Which ending?
Everything involving Sarah.
The latter half of shows run I guess, but that's in hindsight. What do I like is there's just tons of iconic episodes and moments in the show
The school was creepily empty and it got weird how they had the cul-de-sac kids together all the time when they should be separated by age.
It ended.
And I don't mean "they didn't keep making episodes forever" like Simpsons, but the fact the IP is more or less dead. No sequel series, no spinoffs or alternate media besides MAYBE a video game once every decade if we're lucky, and no true spiritual successors because Antonucci just kinda disappeared from the face of the earth after the show concluded (I know he's still doing stuff, but you never hear about him without going out of your way to see what he's up to, and nothing else he made ever really captures the same energy as Ed Edd n Eddy).
It's a double-edged sword, I guess. I love this show, but at the same time it being dead is bittersweet because I wouldn't want it ending up like, say, Powerpuff Girls which has been in remake hell for some time now.
Times like this make me wish I could really play Ed Edd n Eddy Online.
I'm glad the show ended. I personally didn't really mind the fifth season, but it was evident by then that they're were losing steam. Better to end it when it was still going good.
I don't know if I'm alone in this, but the movie kind of makes some of the episodes(Eddy getting humiliated in front of everyone because he thought he had a date with Nazz, the middle name episode, the school photo episode, any episode that ended with the Eds getting beaten up, etc.) a little harder to watch in hindsight
Nazz Marie
The Kanker sisters, unironically.
In theory, they serve as appropriate and novel foils for the Eds. In practice, they make rewatching the show as an adult a horribly uncomfortable experience.
Sarah and Kevin never got their comeuppance enough
And come to think of it, did the Kankers 'lose' an episode ever?
Yes.
>And come to think of it, did the Kankers 'lose' an episode ever?
There was that one time when Jonny beat the shit out of them after they spent the entire episode using Plank as a back scratcher
"Pebble in Shoe" Ed should've stuck around for a little longer.
Also:
>the one where the Eds trap all three of the Kankers' heads inside a measuring cup and get away
>the one that ends with Eddy screaming at them to piss off and they actually comply
the sound effects and music are fricking garbage.
Anything else is god tier, but it can get distracting at times.
This is bait. The jazz and the effects are as instrumental to it as ass on a woman.
It's weird when you think about just how long EEnE was actually on the air for
When it premiered it was airing alongside Dexter, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken and the Powerpuff Girls
By the time the movie aired, all of its contemporaries had either ended or gotten cancelled(including newer ones like Fosters, KND, Billy and Mandy and Camp Lazlo), and Adventure Time's pilot had already been released
