Most of these tropes are gone, but the one that persists is the random clacking sound whenever a character handles a pistol. Every time the character moves the pistol it clacks or clicks for seemingly no reason.

Soicucks will defend this by claiming it's a "cue" to remind the audience that there is a gun in the scene. Why is that needed when the scene clearly shows the pistol? And why do do the "cues" have to misrepresent reality?

guns can definitely rattle especially if there's a little play in the magazine well. some guns have free floating firing pins that can you can hear when shaken. bullets inside the magazine can also rattle if it's a single stack.
but yes the rattle is greatly exaggerated and should be absent in well maintained guns

That's complete Hollywood bullshit. Every soldier, no matter what military you belong to, is taught to keep both eyes open when looking down the scope because:
    >1. It doesn't help to close one eye
    &
    >2. Closing one eye limits your peripheries (where people might show up and shoot you)

Truth bomb had casuals seething. You need to train some time to adjust your brain to look through the scope as your sole dominant eye, but after that you will never shoot with one eye closed. In my marksmanship test I covered my other eye with a patch because I couldn't fully do that shit yet, and I didn't want to partially close my aiming eye.

        Anonymous

how do gays with cross eye dominance learn to shoot? I went clay shooting with my friend and it turned out he had spazzy eyes that made him shoot a good distance ahead of where the target actually was regardless of which eye he used to aim

          Anonymous

Maybe use the patch trick the same way I did? When I say it takes a moment for your brain to learn that skill I mean it. But after you get it it's automatical. The thing is that if you dont have any real incentive to train your brain you most likely will never pick up on it. I would compare it to learning how to hold your breath for a a couple of minutes. Automatically the brain will hunger for fresh oxygen after ~30 seconds, but your blood hemoglobin has far more to give. You just have to reprogram your brain and once it's done it's done. Like learning to ride a bike.

How do you deal with the visual snow from your dominant eye?

              Anonymous

I would imagine your brain quickly filters that out when you are actually concentrating on a target. Now I admit that my right side aiming eye was already dominant, so I had it easy to filter out the submissive eye. But never in millitary did I meet a single person who shot with their other eye closed, so it is absolutely doable for everyone.

      Anonymous

Some people shoot better with both eyes open, some people shoot worse. A good range instructor will help you figure that out. I have cross-dominance (left handed, right eyed), so I shoot better off my left shoulder both eyes open.

That's usually how it goes. Most shots don't hit, and when they do, you're either dead, dying, in shock, or agony.
You hear stories about people shrugging off bullets because they're on PCP or some shit, but most of the time, when you shoot someone, they don't want to be near you anymore. Whatever they were doing before is not worth their life.

Rumpole of the Bailey always shows guns being mishandled, even by cops. The exact same policy appears in the German movie about commie terrorists, Baader Meinhof Complex -- every single time a gun is onscreen, it's being mishandled, to create the impression that there is no safe handling possible. But they go a step further: dishonestly, they show a famous event in West German history -- the gratuitous murder of a protester by a scared cop -- without mentioning to the audience that the scared cop just happened to be a Stasi on a mission to trick West Germany into imposing stricter gun control. Kind of a big omission. The Stasi went on to becone a member of the Diet (the German parliament) after reunification.

Just once I want to see a gunfight scene where the gunnut / prepper / veteran / whatever of the group actually pops in his earpro and is extra smug and "I told you" to the group after the fight.

My personal gripe is that everyone seems to assume that all revolvers are 6 shots. If it's a small revolver than 5 is the most likely bullet amount, more if it's a .22 gun. With full size revolvers 6 is the stereotype, but there are plenty of exceptions. I am still waiting for a movie where one guy counts the shots of a revolver user all wienery, only to be struck down by a 7th shot.

here in bongland they're trying to crack down on crossbows because one moron killed someone a while back with one like the channel 4 meme. the only people I see wielding crossbows are people with their kids at the range having fun shooting tin cans and whatnot.

I honestly believe once an American turns 18 they should get a check from the government for ~$2-3k to be spent on a rifle, magazines and ammunition and free firearm safety classes. You are part of the militia now after all.

Gun safety in general. Characters who are supposed to have good training all have terrible trigger discipline, regularly wave their loaded guns around, never check the chamber and/or mag to see if it's ready to fire, and just fail to take safety measures to manage the carrying of a deadly weapon.

How come people in America in the 1970s could walk out of any hardware store on any street corner with as much guns and ammunition as they could carry, but no mass shootings?

Less societal pressure. The poor back then still could meet all their basic needs and weren't as bad off as now. so there was less need to commit violence.

permanent tinnitus kind of loud, muzzle flash enough to blind you at night

what movies don't convey is the violence of the act - in movies it's cartoonish, inconsequential, detached. in reality there's little skill involved, nothing glorious, and the devastation so horrid, you don't wish it on any person. i'm perfectly fine with action movies where it's apparent it's just fantasy, but when they're trying to gritty, and the grittiness is just surface level, feels distasteful.
