Nathan was a surfer commonly referred to as 'Big N'. and sam's older brother, who tragically died after an accident during a surfing contest in Ocean Shores. Sam and his mother decided to move to Ocean Shores themselves as a sign of rememberance.
Sam didn't believe that his brother's accident was truly that, so he decides to make friends with the local kids who are into extreme sports in order to freely investigate, and learn the truth about what happened. Sam's mother doesn't approve of his new extreme lifestyle, because she doesn't want to lose both of her sons, but she knows she can't stop him from doing what she believes is his passion.
Little does Sam know that Big N has been alive the whole time, living as a beach bum, having retired from surfing after the accident. Only Nathan knows that it was no accident. One of his competitors intentionally made him wipe out while they were in the film crew's blind spot. Perhaps some day Sam will find his long lost brother, convince him to pass down his knowledge of the surf so that vengeance can finally be achieved.
