If you've already red the book why would you want to watch the exact same thing. I prefer when they do something different.

There needs to be a financial incentive to force studios to adapt shit 100% accurately to the source material. Like for example, come up with some arbitrary low-ball number like 8%. That's the maximums deviation from the source material before the clause kicks in. Like, let's say it's Spider-Man being adapted. Is he white? Is his name Peter Parker? Is he straight? What? MJ's black? 14% variation, she's flat too. You may no longer call this project Spider-Man, you will have to come up with a new, distinct name for your movie and character because you've changed too much. Your movie will now be fined several million dollars for every day of continued production and may not continue until you've either rectified this to make it more accurate or settled on a new title.

      >100% accurately to the source material
would be dog shit a lot of the time. also, Fight Club the film is an unambiguous improvement over the book. with such a law you would be forcing all adaptations to be shitty to mitigate the risk of some being shitty

It could be called something other than Fight Club and still be a good movie, though.

Or, how about just finding someone who really, really wants to be faithful to the source material? The problem is that so many Hollywood types see these projects as nothing more than stepping stones to bigger things, so they have no reverence for them.
I remember reading that the director of the first Silent Hill movie pleaded with Konami to let him make a movie based on it saying he was a huge fan of the series.
That movie wasn't great, but it got a lot right in terms of the atmosphere and obviously the music. Some of the added shit was dumb like the mom searching for the kid rather than the dad and PH being there for no reason, but imo, it is still one of the better video game adaptations.
That's not saying much, though, because it's still a bad movie.

That dude is being brought back to make a movie that's a more direct adaptation of Silent Hill 2.

that scene and the opening kill are the only times 47 acts like 47, hiding the gun in the ice was good too but that was a setup for an action scene which sucked, STOP DOING ACTION SCENES IN A HITMAN MOVIE FFS

I'm not saying the movie is good at all in comparison to the book or does it justice though.

Pretty much all vidya movies. Super Mario Bros (1993) comes to mind as a glaring example, but I kinda respect it for trying to come up with its own take on the concept. The Paul W.S. Anderson Resident Evil flicks would be a good example too.

      >1993
Why are people pretending there was more to adapt back then?
What was the lore of mario back in 1993? Just some stupid games about a pixelated plumber jumping around weird plants and dinos to save a princess

And that's all it still is and they wisely they went with that for the new movie which will enter the top 20 highest grossing movies of all time worldwide this weekend 🙂

There were many TV shows based on Mario in the 80s, they could just have adapted one of those. There was even an anime film released in '86. Technically they could have made a live action adaptation in the same vein, but I think the 1993 live action film is more interesting the way it is.

When I saw Timesplitters at the theatre I was quite disappointed in the overall quality of the movie. I think it had a ridiculously small budget. I can't say I'm surprised given who directed it. That being said, I can't criticise it for not following the storyline exactly, but the humour and references were all there.
