This. It's all digitally shot grimdark trash. I literally don't believe people who say they enjoy Ari Aster movies.

People in the film industry keep falling for the meme that we are going back to New Hollywood levels of creativity which is just a flat out lie. Unfortunately with websites like Twitter and Letterboxd, we see a lack of proper vision today. Creators no longer pulling from personal living experiences but instead from the internet and we end up getting films like those from A24 that want to reinforce cinema is not dead, but entirely cater to that letterboxd/twitter community. There is a creator to audience problem, the creators themselves lack the proper awareness of their actions while the audience is left stunned. Studios no longer strive for earnestness or wholely original projects and instead films based on IP. Think about it like this: we have Fruoisa and Garfield both battling for the box office: both films are based on prexisiting properties that have some level of nostalgia tied behind them. And this is what a ton of studios are doing today. This is why A24 gets credit for trying to save cinema, but their films too are often catering to the letterboxd community. It no longer feels like films can simply exist and instead always have one foot in cinema and one foot in social media. This is what A24 has suffered from.

So you're saying that films produced by A24 are not actually of their creator's genuine creativity but are instead an attempt to cater to some amalgamation of social media user ideas and mindsets?

It's AI slop. You guys haven't been able to detect it yet, but you'll get it someday.

You could have condensed that down to "A24 caters to an internet film community instead of genuine ideas".

Popularity and restructuring to hone in on that popularity during the pandemic. Having a light art flavor is only fun when it’s actually independent. Now it’s just annoying because you’re supposed to just give them points for being “brave” to release these movies.

Of the 6-7 A24 films I’ve seen recently only 1 was good, the rest are basically the pretentious midwit schlock Cinemaphile mocks them for making

I believe a film cannot be pretentious because whatever intention (which is the "pretension") the director has is not important, only the film itself.
What were the movies you saw from them?

"attempting to impress by affecting greater importance or merit than is actually possessed."
Sums up many A24 movies perfectly.
