2022, not that it matters much
I think the streaming money is confusing plans over there. People might be going after the money to make a series rather than making a film. Just guessing

There are tons of kino kmovies. The problem is there are shittons of hollywoodish bullshit movies.
      Also Netflix productions + israelites

        >anticlimactic
Filtered. It was a noirish melodrama, the ending is in line with the courage to tell the story that way

I used to watch these on their own merit, but then as if it happened overnight, everyone became obsessed with Korea for whatever reason (probably because they thought it was exotic or they wanted to patronizingly draw attention to themselves), and so now it's almost guaranteed I will never give a fuck about anything that comes out of Korea. It's hard to even like the films I liked before any of this too because they're so overpraised just because they're tagged as "Korean". If any of these movies came out in any other language no one would give a fuck, just like they hadn't given a fuck about them until Parasite came out.

"Now I can't like it because other people do!"

It's not like any actual normies even know what the fuck a single movie from Asia is anyways, but I guess it's still not hipster enough to like something that some other niche autistic weebs have caught on to, too.

            >you're a contrarian because something you liked was commodified
Yeah I don't care man. There's no avenue for discussion. It's impossible to talk about these films on their own merit anymore because they've been fetishized by people who categorize them not by genre or style but by the ethnic makeup of the people who made them. All earnest discussion of these movies in English has been made impossible by the influx of these people. If you think it's contrarian I don't care.

There's still good stuff rolling out of Korea but yeah, the amount has certainly dropped. It's like anywhere else though honestly, Korean cinema had its boon, but it left and went elsewhere.
