its a movie about the creation of the play called Rent but is really an allegory for the aids epidemic among the gay musical theatre population

Rent was all the rage, then when it actually toured it was far from the hype -- multicultural young talents saving NYC theater, turned out to be reselling La Boheme, with only 1 passable song out of many. Nothing really outstanding other than NYC's desperate need to have sth young, hip, very topical to be a hit.

2016 was his peak. UTSL doesn't hold up, but he has great moments. Strong work in TTB tho the Jonathan Larson cult is more annoying now that Broadway is also barely surviving.

after doing my usual military history authenticity autism check I was surprised to see how little exaggeration there was. the movie trims a lot of fat and condenses his feats into a short space which can feel kinda absurd but the real guy was no less a madlad hero

      Hacksaw Ridge was pretty good
man when Vince rides the rifle sled and empties his 100 round grease gun magazine into a dozen japs I stood up on my chair and yelled "KINO!"

No you didn't and that movie sucked ass. Casting was awful, couldn't take any characters seriously, especially Garfield and Vince Vaughn. Weakest war film I've ever seen

Extremely unlucky. I didn't even think TASM 1 was that bad.
Hell, even TASM 2 had it's moments but suits inference and bad writing just ruined it.
He seems to have got some goodwill back among the normies post NWH though and many of them are retroactively realizing those movies weren't that bad.

Big problem with ASM is they didn’t make Spidey likeable at all. He was a douchebag. That’s the biggest failing

what do you mean? he's a dick to criminals once the mask is on even in the comics.
The scene with him and the carjacker was hilarious

I think even by that point people were more familiar with the Tobey/MCU type of Spider-Man where he's just kind of soft, and even with the mask doesn't have much edge to him.
Plus he didn't have a strong supporting cast to it balance out

He's a gifted actor, but there aren't commercial roles that fit him well. More like a theater/arthouse guy but not edgy enough for auteurs.

For some reason he's not gonna make another movie until 2025, with his last movie being in 2021, idk why, though, maybe he's just tired of capeshit roles
