What happened to those "Every 1963 Marvel Comic" storytimes?!!

Not only fun comics posted but there were comments from people who actually talk about the artists, historical context, character development and such? Most days those were the only threads worth reading.

Probably burn out. Threads don't get much traction on here these days if there's not something to whine about

Sad but true. I gave up on starting Golden Age and early Silver Age threads because of lack of interest. Maybe there's a more suitable storyboard somewhere? Anyway, those threads rekindled my love for the breezy, entertaining Patsy Walker comics.

It is kinda disappointing how little engagement people are willing to have these days.

This board is filled with autists and losers wanting to use this place to farm Outrage (tm) and to obsess over lolcows over actually having discussions on Cinemaphile material. Just look at the fricking Dobson threads that manage to regularly hit bump limit, and that dude left the internet years ago.

It’s a bit of a self-fulfilling problem because the outrage threads get you to debate and get replies.

That shit is insane to me, I remember the night Toonami's april fools day prank happened 11 years ago I came home from a trip to New York with some friends , I was in college, came home to Cinemaphile to see a Dobson thread and thinking how stupid it was to still be talking about him. Now its 11 years later, I'm married, have kids,a house, and a career, and I know damn well the same people as back then are STILL talking about him.

          Whoever posted this:

          [...]

was kind of on to something

But I want to add--ever since the boards stopped allowing self-bumping, it's reduced storytimes
You can eventually bump your own thread to top, but after like some minutes passed and that's not great for storytiming when you've got a lot of pages to go through.

I believe people shilling for Marvel/DC/WB/Disney would have a lot of different IPs involved so their threads get bumped up, and I kind of think the Youtube outrage farm also have multiple people supporting them and therefore constantly bump up threads, so that's why live-action, Youtube outrage farm shit, "manga superior" threads made by people who don't read manga, etc, that's why they get more optics than storytimes.

He really doesn't. For example I'd say it's the outrage farmers who killed a lot of interest not people putting SJW stuff or whatever into comics (if that's what he means by clickbaiters. If he means people constantly going out of their way to spin everything they can into getting mad over dumb shit even when it's just something someone said on twitter once, I agree). I also don't think MCU / DCU talk did anywhere near as much damage as people like to pretend.
Simple fact of the matter is that Cinemaphile in general, and this goes far FAR beyond Cinemaphile, is used primarily by a group of very bitter people that want an echochamber to support their world view and frankly don't care about anything that's not that echo chamber. You see it on Cinemaphile, you see it on Cinemaphile and it's spinoffs and you see it on pretty much every semi-popular board here.

Those sort of people all but chased away the people who actually cared about the hobby due to constant negativity and ridicule of content makers and things that didn't support their narrow view of what should and shouldn't be posted.

Yeah, this is the truth, here. There are people still around willing to have genuine conversations, but they must be growing less and less as time goes on--given that, anecdotally, Cinemaphile seems to becoming more and more unhinged and obsessed with IDpol.

Hell, I can put up with a lot of it, but I consider leaving this place behind for good a lot more than I used to.

if you only stay on Cinemaphile and don't check out other message boards as well as talk to a variety of people, you'll get an insanely slanted view of what is going on in America (and the world), So many posts are hateful and ignorant in a way that doesn't reflect most people I know. Not sure if there's any remedy or if these boards are just a lost cause.

Throwing in a random cartoon because why not?

Storytiming is time consuming and carries little reward. You take over if you want them to carry on.

I honestly don't have the resolve to do so. And the poster of those threads had done a lot of research, He reported many interesting behind the scenes information about sales, why some titles were dropped, which artists came and went. I love that stuff,.

Same here! Those were read-only threads for me, mostly, since I was seeing it for the first time. I didn't have much to comment other than "this is great stuff."
The storytime OP and some of the commenters would have so much great detail and context. Those issues are probably available for download some where, but reading them here - together - was so much fun.

Oh, Patsy, oh Hedy, don't you ever change.

To be honest, I've been enjoying them on https://readcomiconline.li/ which is evidently not exactly a legal site. The stories are consistently fun from 1948 straight through into the 1970s, Al Jaffee from MAD did the art for awhile, but Al Hartley remains my favorite.

The stories are often very playful. Patsy and Hedy appear in comic magazines within their own reality. At one point, the girls demand Stan Lee and Al Hartley do a story in the 1920s and then we get to read a delightful romp packed with amazing 1920s slang. I really recommend these comics to anyone who sick and tired of super-heroes.

Helps to have a group always turn up. The Sonic storytime threads have been going everyday for over a year and the turnout has been greater than ever. And kudos to Doodle for doing those Moon Knight threads. I always try to bump threads when I can. Shame not more anons do it.

The double lines on the cheek is a hallmark of one of the artists. I learned that in these threads, but sadly I've forgotten which artist.

Hi, that would be Al Hartey, the best Patsy Walker artist in my opinion. He had such an open, sunlit style and clear storytelling. When it came to drawing pretty girls, I'd put him up there with the very best... Wally Wood, Gene Colan, Bob Oskner, anyone.

One of my favorite moments in any comic. After years of scheming and lying and verbal abuse towards Patsy, Hedy has to move to a distant town. You'd think both girls would be delighted...

Plebs not understanding the sacred bond of frienemies.
By the way did Hedy appear in any off the Hellcat comics that Patsy spun off into?

If i hadn't seen in real life the relationship between women who are best friends/worst rivals simultaneously, I wouldn't have believed it either,. Hedy did appear in a Hellcat series, pretty much unchanged and still giving Patsy a hard time. (I like to think that the old Silver Age Patsy and Hedy stories "really" happened and it's the Hellcat stories that are fictional. But does Marvel listen to me? No.
