I saw the teaser that you shills were creaming your pants over. It looked cheap and unimpressive. For example, Numenor. It's the height of Men's civilization. Third Age Gondor is just a sad, small echo of what Numenor was. Yet in the trailer, we see some shots of Ar-Pharazon addressing a crowd. The people look like extras from King's Landing in GoT, and the locale looks like some shitty greek courtyard. Presumably this takes place in Armenelos, the greatest, most beautiful city Men ever built. Yet it looks like shit compared to Minas Tirith.
>Armenelos looks like Kings Landing

kek, that frame looks like from a fricking Assassin's Creed cinematic. it that unironically intended to make me want to watch the series? fricking hell, actually embarrassing.
>Anyway how does this look like Dubrovnik?
Armenelos is located on a hill inland, not a river valley. Either that's not Armenelos or the show has completely ignored Numenor's geography.
if they had any big ideas they would have put them in a trailer by now. the Fellowship trailer was literally just explaining the plot setup for normies. currently we have no plot info at all, it's like there's no hook beyond "LOTR show". points to the same mistake Disneywars made.
the "the skys are strange" line didn't even sound like it was delivered correctly for any obvious conversational context.
LOTR is about short people travelling to throw a ring into a volcano.

Sauron is the cause of all the bad shit that happens in the 2nd age, he literally gets an entire island of ubermench sunk, destroys most of the elven kingdoms, corrupts swathes of men, effectively genocides the ents, kills Celebrimbor, Gil-galad, Elendil or he also makes these magic rings too

Pretty much everybody uses swords or other weapons in Tolkien's stories, Gandalf typically fought with a sword, Melkor with a warhammer
There are the odd occasions where they don't and do some weird magic shit but that wasn't exclusively a female thing, Finrod has a magical singing battle with Sauron for instance

They don't have rights to the other books but you don't need them to use what is written to help construct these characters for the show. Take Celebrimbor for example, because Tolkien wrote 2 or 3 versions of his character the show will create a composite. His actor spoke about this in an interview recently.
They are doing the same with Galadriel, she has 4 different backstories in the books and lots of stuff written about her character across various pieces of text so they bring all these things together to make her character in the show.
Anonymous
in which of these backstories was she running around with a sword killing trolls or was shipwrecked while returning to Aman?

I'm talking about using her backstories for characterisation, not plotting out episode by episode actions.
He characterisation is pretty consistent across the books but what she actually got up to over time is a complete fricking mess. Remember Christopher Tolkiens comment >There is no part of the history of Middle-earth more full of problems than the story of Galadriel
There are centuries where you don't really know what these characters got up to, so they are going to write her a story that includes the stuff we definitely know about her, like getting a ring of power and moving to Lothlorean (eventually)

>nobody involved has ever made anything average or good
breaking bad, better call saul, sopranos, mad men..You're willingly rendering yourself moronic.
What if the sun turns into a turnip tomorrow?
Why the frick should I concern myself with nonsensical hypotheticals that are so far from likelihood that they may as well be impossible?
>What if it's actually good?
I'm wracking my brain TRYING to think of a series or even a movie that featured coloureds AND I enjoyed...
...Tour of Duty and that was the late eighties / early nineties.
You shills should not even try here. The forced racial propoganda is so egregious this time that you honestly have no chance at reaching anyone. Just go to reddit
I'm not a jannie nor did I invoke one. I know this is an extremely important production for you, so I want you to allocate your resources more prudently
it won't be, the showrunners have said they were playing fast and loose with the source material. huge red flags there alone. Amazon can pay "experts" and influencers to say it's great but that doesn't mean anything because it's plain to see.
under the right circumstances sure you could display diversity in middle earth. however this is woke diversity and inclusion, which is always forced and disingenuous. another problem with woke writing and story telling. flat and boring characters who follow ridiculous tropes and cartoonish villains.
from everything I've seen and read, they don't care about the IP and are just trying to tell their own terrible stories by leaching off a popular IP. just look at Disney Star Wars, NuTrek or Halo.
I've seen franchise rape enough to see what's happening and Rings of Power is no different. you might like it and good for you both I won't subject myself to seeing yet another franchise violently raped.
I would be relieved if it came out and I said "wow this feels completely natural to Tolkien's world and ethic".
But Amazon has never made a good product and everything they do make looks wrong somehow. I don't know if it's a lens thing or how they frame or edit or what, but they feel offputting.
>But Amazon has never made a good product
Amazon don't make tv shows, that's not how the entertainment industry works
Each tv show and movie is made by a handful of producers who are typically not affiliated with the company, exceptions being a Feige or KK figure but they are the exception rather than the rule
They're plagiarizing Tolkien's work and creating a washed out, discount, filtered by the lenses of PC propaganda and other types of propaganda, product.
The values Tolkien personally held and the values he wrote about are not the values of the people filming nu-LOTR and are not the values of Amazon.
This is what it means when people discard "woke" products. There is a huge division between the values of original stories and their "woke" plagiarized commercial products. The Boys did that with present day american politics "le trump vs le good democrats" when it was actually about things like "power corrupts" not subhuman american politics.
I fricking swear to fricking god this fricking show is going to be fricking full of fricking Black folk. I'm going to fricking throw up the first fricking five fricking minutes. Unwatchable Black person fricking garbage.
everyone on Cinemaphile will say it's unwatchable garbage, pozzed dumpster fire, disaster, dogshit, but at the same time you will have 12 threads a day with 300 posts ommitted for every episode.
Happens all the time. Cinemaphile can't admit they like something because liking things is reddit and npc.
>but at the same time you will have 12 threads a day with 300 posts ommitted for every episode.
After S02 of The Boys I could have sworn Cinemaphile was DONE with the show. That there may be a thread or two for S03.
NOPE.
Cinemaphile is just as bad as those marks over at Cinemaphile.
I fricking swear to fricking god this fricking show is going to be fricking full of fricking Black folk. I'm going to fricking throw up the first fricking five fricking minutes. Unwatchable Black person fricking garbage.
It cant be "good". It can be "pretty". It can be "entertaining", but it wont be a loving adapation of the source material, nor will it be a visionary attempt at creating places weve never seen.
It will be a ideologically driven political product. Written by ideologues, who are creatively and intellectually incapable of separating art from their own views. Produced by corporate shills that are throwing money to boost prime subscriptions by appealing to the least common denominator.
Something that is made without passion, can never inspire, or be art. Its a pretty product that will disappoint on all levels and the only emotion anyone will feel is: "What could have been".
it could be the gratest show ever made
but >the international market has already made up its mind that the show is a meme beacuse of the blacks that are there beacuse of propaganda. See youtbe comments and dislikes >americans will eat anything so that's where the money comes from so they could be succesful and amazon will sell more dildos and cpu coolers >lord of the ring fans are mad and they will hate watch it
Bezos will go to Mars before Musk
unless people are going in with the purpose to shit on the show, then they are by default going in with an open mind
the truly principled person will note that this show disrespects both the source material and the fans and is built upon a foundation of ill-intent, and will not watch a single minute of this show for that reason
and yet you will watch every episode and you will write dozens of posts on Cinemaphile about it. You know how i know this? Because you are all literally the same. Judging by opinions here, 98% of anons will hate the show (they know that already). BUT they will all watch it and they will all talk about it here. It's the same with literally every show that Cinemaphile "hates".
>yeah, i saw 44, 1-hour episodes of it, but i don't like it. It's shit.
i don't persist watching any show i don't like and drop a show if and when it becomes a chore to continue
this i will never bother starting, like the witcher and wheel of time, etc
>why are you posting your opinion on a Cinemaphile discussion board?
the real question is why does it bother you if i trash this show and its motivations?
Wheel of Time was Sony, same as The Boys. Streaming sites don't even produce half the shows they have exclusive rights to, they just buy content off somebody else
need the ESG scores to be high or access to investment dollars is cut off. I love it when the fed bankrolls private equity to combat ebil foreign propaganda.
if i were a lotr superfan(i liked the movies and the book is great if you're a kid, but i'm not a hardcore fan) i would legitimately get excited about it. It looks great and has good writers behind it.
meanwhile star trek fans get one slap in the face after the other
ent crap, disco crap, picard crap, strange new worlds crap, lower decks crap, the list goes on. You only had hobbit movies to swallow and now you're getting something that will probably be at least good. If there was an upcoming star trek show that looked that promising, i would literally jerk off to that fact alone. It's been 21 years since good star trek show.
Just take The Orville pill, It took me a while to swallow but I finally did and it's refreshing because I don't want to kill myself at the end of every episode
It's not amazing but compared to nutrek, it is
I mean there are episodes I enjoyed more than the first one but I don't know I'd say it gets better in the sense that the show changes or improves drastically
I feel like you need to put your scale into perspective though, if The Orville's first episode is 1/10 to you, what is Picard, Discovery?
>I feel like you need to put your scale into perspective though, if The Orville's first episode is 1/10 to you, what is Picard, Discovery?
slightly better, but still unwatchable. Dropped them both after s01e01. But they at least had decent production values and some acting here and there. Pilot to orville looks like amateur youtube productions.
it gets better. it seems like McFarlane had to pitch the show as Family Guy in space to get it greenlit, but it quickly stops with the cringe jokes and develops into a proper ST ripoff
>Orville is hit or miss. It has great episodes and shit episodes
I don't disagree. And is ST any different? TNG had plenty of stinkers in the early seasons. All I was trying to say was that the show gets better as it goes along. The 1st season is basically Family Guy Trek with a few good episodes. 2nd season they start to dial back the humor and make it more like TNG. By the 3rd season they drop the humor entirely and it's a full on ST show wearing a different suit.
I don't know what story they could possibly tell that will interest me in this universe, I love the LOTR movies but the lore of the series is pretty stupid, I view it more as a metaphor than anything (the smallest good can defeat the ultimate evil, never give up, the corrupting influence of power and of men, etc) so going into the lore, I just don't care
Also the characters look shitty and the show in general looks woke, probably written by boring leftists
I will however watch the show because Galadriel is cute. I expect less than nothing. I would be shocked if I thought it was good. I think it's just going to be boring because I won't care, and everything will feel fake and I'll be unable to get immersed in it
>DIDNT YOU KNOW TOLKIEN WAS A CATHOLIC AND SAID THE BOOK WAS HECKIN CATHOLIC??? >THAT MEANS YOU CANT ADAPT IT IF YOU ARENT A CHRISTKEK!!!
Please shut up reactionary freaks
Men jerking off into the anuses of crossdressing men are insane and ugly. Crossdressing men are also insane and turn ugly in no time. You know it's true. Cope and seethe.
I wish I was able to be as delusional as trannies
It's actually impressive when you really think about it
I mean they cut their wieners off for their delusion, let's give some credit to that dedication at least
And men are finally back to their right place, as pets, either making pretty trinkets like Celebrimbor,so women can look fabulous, or being a black bvll, like Blacklas.
Middle Earth is finally a feminist, progressive place and it will remain like that forever thanks to Bezos.
Even disregarding the social justice politics and how it’s hampered creative freedom, you only have to look at the state of the industry. Unlike the past, where the barrier to entry was low, now you pretty much only get a job in it with very particular connections, degrees from the right colleges, and they only want young writers who are cheap.
What do young college graduates know about the majority of stories they’re tasked with telling? There’s no life experience, no dynamism, no emotional awareness. It’s well-off, politically acceptable, young writers who will take pennies for work that’s produced on a fast timetable. Even if they tried to deviate creatively, this would present financial risks studios aren’t willing to make.
Everything is against this turning out well, so it would be more interesting to find out what went right, if it happened to. Of course nothing is ever certain, but it’s shortsighted to act like it’s equally possible for it to be good as it is being bad.
After the Writer’s Guild strikes, especially in 2008, the industry started selecting for cheap, young, malleable writers. It’s just smart business, but not good for quality.
Everyone who replies will point out “but good stuff came out after 2008 you’re moronic.” Yes I am, but I’m also aware that change like this isn’t immediate.
>After the Writer’s Guild strikes, especially in 2008, the industry started selecting for cheap, young, malleable writers
This isnt the first time Ive heard this and I wonder if theres any truth to it. Has anyone in the industry really confirmed this?
Jackson's trilogy received its own share of bashing before and after release, people just don't know that or already forgot. Jackson ain't a saint here, people just give him green pass because nostalgia or because they are not well acquainted with the books.
Just move on people, LOTR will be entering more and more public domains every decade, you probably could make your own trilogy in China right now or in a couple of years (50 years after author death, which is next year?). Yes, this opens the door for absolute shitshows, but also great works.
Jackson’s trilogy was universally acclaimed and rightly so because it was a fantastic, epic visual story that took what it needed from the source material while still providing an entertaining tale for those unfamiliar with the story and for those who knew it’s every nook and cranny at the same time. It’s a relic of a bygone era
There's about 2 pages in the appendix of LOTR they're allowed to adapt. They cover a few thousand years.
The writers reponsible for having to fill in the gaps with anime original content have no real credentials to speak of.
This was never going to be good even if they were trying to be faithful to the material, which they clearly aren't.
yeah, basically the first thing any fantasy writer has to do is world-build, explaining the basic laws of this particular setting and the different factions/political alignments/adversary dynamics/etc >woketards come in and say "anything can happen because muh fantasy lmao"
fantasy is always built upon foundational canonical rules

good for you, that "it was totally in the books guys but not telling where" shtick was pretty embarrassing
>her characterization in the show is made up
Nope, quite the opposite actually
>Her actions in the show are made up
Much of it will be, yes, but not the big important stuff
>Nope, quite the opposite actually
oh, in that case, still waiting for them quotes about Galadriel partaking in combat to prove me wrong. otherwise, it's the last (You) you're getting.
Read Unfinished Tales, there is an entire section about Galadriel including a description of her fighting 'fiercely' at Alqualondë against Feanor and sons who were slaughtering the Teleri
That doesn't make sense, unless they will go against the Silmarillion narrative where Galadriel travels along with Feanor to the North after the kinslaying.
>I already told you which books they are in. Lead a horse to water and all that.
It doesn't work like that. You're claiming you have evidence that prove your claim. The burden is on you to present that evidence, not tell other people to go hunt it down themselves.
You have nothing.
I was a different guy, but Im still waiting for the source.
feel free to enlighten me with appropriate quotes
>Galadriel is described as fighting in combat in 4 different books
Da Liar of da Rangs.
Stronk womanz
>There's a possibility
No there isn't.
Yes there is. Wait and see.
We have been over this.
It won't
>It won't
You have nothing to prove that.
It has a chance of being good.
>nobody involved has ever made anything average or good
I like those odds.. im gonna go promote Amazon's new The Rings Of Power tv show all over the internet!
>nobody involved has ever made anything average or good
They actually have some of the best tv writers in the industry
>nobody involved has ever made anything average or good
breaking bad, better call saul, sopranos, mad men..You're willingly rendering yourself moronic.
It won't be.
Even if it's good Tolkien it still won't be good.
Generation Kill was based
>Wooow they got you in the fricking ghetto. A Hispanic a coon and a fricking wigger.
>Hey Garza I thought you were mexican
>Yeah
>Then why aren't you loud and stealing my shit?
You shills should not even try here. The forced racial propoganda is so egregious this time that you honestly have no chance at reaching anyone. Just go to reddit
>Let me try and moderate your thread
>oh its YOU that should go to leddit
lel
What's 'woke' about it? Females existing?
Never reply to me again.
The Boys did that with present day american politics "le trump vs le good democrats" when it was actually about things like "power corrupts" not subhuman american politics.
> amazon
> lord of the rings
how can you have any expectations?
at least link the fricking trailer you numbskull
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8cchsj
If I see one more fricking Black person I am going to fricking blow my fricking brains out.
BLACK-ACK
calm down chud
everyone on Cinemaphile will say it's unwatchable garbage, pozzed dumpster fire, disaster, dogshit, but at the same time you will have 12 threads a day with 300 posts ommitted for every episode.
If the blacks and diversity hires end up having secretly been working for Sauron the whole time I might watch.
Why did you use the frame with like the only white people in the trailer
And what about being spat in the face without reacting ? That's you.
It's fundamentally broken.
I may change my mind if the footage shown so far was just an out of season April Fool's joke.
>What if it's actually good?
Ha! It will succeed as comedy. Not a chance it will succeed as intended.
it could be the gratest show ever made
but
>the international market has already made up its mind that the show is a meme beacuse of the blacks that are there beacuse of propaganda. See youtbe comments and dislikes
>americans will eat anything so that's where the money comes from so they could be succesful and amazon will sell more dildos and cpu coolers
>lord of the ring fans are mad and they will hate watch it
Bezos will go to Mars before Musk
unless people are going in with the purpose to shit on the show, then they are by default going in with an open mind
the truly principled person will note that this show disrespects both the source material and the fans and is built upon a foundation of ill-intent, and will not watch a single minute of this show for that reason
and yet you will watch every episode and you will write dozens of posts on Cinemaphile about it.
It's shit.
i don't persist watching any show i don't like and drop a show if and when it becomes a chore to continue
this i will never bother starting, like the witcher and wheel of time, etc
then why are you even here convincing random people about it? Sounds like you are convincing yourself.
>why are you posting your opinion on a Cinemaphile discussion board?
the real question is why does it bother you if i trash this show and its motivations?
who says it bothers me?
i do
you wouldn't have popped up seething about my post "convincing random people" otherwise
>There's a possibility that it might be a good show.
Amazon ruined Wheel of Time, which by all accounts should have satisfied their obsession with woke garbage and box ticking.
If they can't handle that, they will absolutely botch Lord of the Rings.
Wheel of Time was Sony, same as The Boys. Streaming sites don't even produce half the shows they have exclusive rights to, they just buy content off somebody else
>obsession with woke garbage and box ticking
This stuff is formalized. They mandate quotas.
need the ESG scores to be high or access to investment dollars is cut off. I love it when the fed bankrolls private equity to combat ebil foreign propaganda.
It wasn't woke enough. current year wokeness demands more wooden girl boss, more diversity, more inclusion and of course even more emasculation.
if i were a lotr superfan(i liked the movies and the book is great if you're a kid, but i'm not a hardcore fan) i would legitimately get excited about it.
It's not amazing but compared to nutrek, it is
>Just take The Orville pill
does it really get better? First episode was unironically 1/10 and i've had enough.
The first episode of The Orville is by far the worst. It get progressively better after that and by the 2nd season it's basically TNG-lite.
Orville is hit or miss. It has great episodes and shit episodes. They seem to also have a lot of episodes dedicated to Bortus and his homosexualry.
I think it's just going to be boring because I won't care, and everything will feel fake and I'll be unable to get immersed in it
Do zoomers have any concept of a world before streaming services shitting out generic paint buy numbers turd after turd?
No, why do you ask?
Just curious
Trimardavious L'Mario Dekwan Jones
Saggitariutt Jefferspin IV
kek super ebonics, who knew the dark speech could evolve
>woke woke woke
Lots of dips shits here
Amazon shills. Only Jeff knows why the algorithm told them to promote it on Cinemaphile of all places.
the greatest source of resistance. disagree with this on reddit and it's a ban.
He was a catholic and people who hate catholics will make a shit adaption yeah
Frick you I can enjoy life and still be racist
this garbage is sooo insulting, freaking black elves when in germanic history elves literally translated to "white being"
And men are finally back to their right place, as pets, either making pretty trinkets like Celebrimbor,so women can look fabulous, or being a black bvll, like Blacklas.
At least we will always have the original trilogy.
There is no realm where it is good because Tolkien had no involvement in it, this is just the most expensive fanfic ever created
This feels like the Witcher, just with 100x the budget
I have already decided I want Galadriel to be my hotwife
Better get in line behind all the other anons
nah, I'll just stand in the corner and watch
the production looks cheap and plastic, the new GOT show looks better
No, frick off amazon
>that BBC stare
They already don't give a shit about LOTR lore, so it's not gonna be good.
They're making this show in the same vain as GoT: subversive to the high fantasy genre. You can't do that with LOTR because they invented that shit.
I don't think they're going for 'subversive'. They literally don't know what fantasy is at all.
Umm, yeah, fantasy means you can have any race intermixed and other progressive stances in ancient times because it's make-believe. Duh.
They don't understand why it matters.
yeah, basically the first thing any fantasy writer has to do is world-build, explaining the basic laws of this particular setting and the different factions/political alignments/adversary dynamics/etc
>woketards come in and say "anything can happen because muh fantasy lmao"
fantasy is always built upon foundational canonical rules
they just happen to be different from our own
>There's a possibility that it might be a good show.
It will be good
Warrior Queen Tar Miriel, supreme leader of Men.
Warrior Queen Galadriel, ruler of the Elves
Wise Queen Disa, ruler of the Dwarves
Three strong women that rule with a fist of iron, to make sure that the Middle Earth is a diverse, safe place for women and minorities.
