The problem I personally have with comparing this to a videogame is that a game will always be about the gameplay first. If you enjoy playing it you'll forgive its existence and problems much easier than just sitting and watching a traditional story in a TV format. I don't think any of the trailers look particularly visually interesting which can save a TV show either so it's already just down to its weak story, no gameplay or visuals or music soundtrack or anything else which would make it worth it.
I'm not talking about gameplay, or lack of..... I'm purely talking about the structure of the story, which will be the one Tolkien wrote about. You know Sauron deceiving the free peoples of middle earth through various means and bringing about it's near destruction before an alliance of the free people come together to save everybody.

The rings were created to try and create what was lost. Turn a bit of middle earth into Valinor and prevent them being ruined like their kingdoms in Beleriand. It's just a continuation of their rebellion against the Valar and are fighting against their diminishment and the dominion of men (which should have occured at the end of the 1st age). These elves don't want to accept that and so are fighting against what the gods intended
